i have to say thanks to Mr Teal and ChipGeek again I wish i was able to get 2 of these and ditch my BFL 30GH so it would fit nicer in my pc case at work but oh well I went the cheap option and got a slim heatsink + fan + thermal pad This was the only option really for me as the BFL 30GH takes up so much room in the pc case that im using that i had to go for the slim profile look. the case runs cold anyway so i do not think that heat will be a problem. If anything does arise from it i will just have to add a extra fan in to the case. I plan on fixing the case and make it a little bit better so the air flow goes threw it with out a problem. I'm thinking of taking the DVD ROM out of the case aswell and adding a fan in that area of the case so more flow goes around.

Anyone interested in a drop-dead simple open-air case for Chili boards?
[picture omitted - see above]
This basic design could be expanded to accommodate more boards (in either/or width and depth) and could be stacked.
Interesting, but I don't like the exhaust of one heatsink feeding into the next heatsink. I would expect better performance if you rotate those heatsinks 90 degrees and point one of these bad boys at the rig to provide adequate the air circulation, lol. Fixed.

Cost, if fully assembled and shipped to California? The case is $29 plus shipping (from NH). The final shipping weight is still tbd.

Bitcoin miner... space heater... mood lighting... Yes, I know fans should be turned 90 degrees. Didn't seem to make much difference. Running around 203GH/s w 6 boards and temps ranging between 52 and 69.

Now that a few people have hashing Chilis can someone provide feedback to allow people to get ready for batch 2 shipments.
-How big of an area of thermal mat/pad does each Chili Need (i.e. 2"x2") -What cooler is best value (cooling per dollar spent). -Were there any surprise parts that were needed to get the Chili hashing?
thanks in advance

when will the firmware be out. im running the newest 3.4.0 bfgminer and it seems to have a problem with temp it just sticks at 7Xc , would like to over clock to 80c atleast even if i set the cut off and temp ranges in the bfgminer.conf it does not take them still 68c, 69c, 70c , 71c , 72c never pass 73c running now 5 hours or so showing me only 22GH , also how can i see how many engines are running i would like to see if all 8 chips are running on the board

If you still have the FTDI driver, you can open up the comm port in Hyperterm or Putty and type in ZCX, it will report the number of engines.

If you're lucky and your chips are very coplanar, you can get away with paste. But usually pad is required because of variance in chip levels.

If I had to guess, I'd say the biggest improvement in that setup is that each heatsink has two fans on them, not one. Adding a second fan is much easier than removing everything, applying a different type of thermal solution, and then putting it all back together.
