Goldcoin Bootstrap.dat

   bootstrap.dat

bootstrap.dat allows a new Goldcoin client (not synced) to rapidly import the initial blocks from a
local file instead of slowly downloading blocks from random peers. This significantly reduces the
time it takes to get a client synced with the current blockchain.

Simply having bootstrap.dat in Goldcoin's expected data directory will make your initial block sync
much faster. The import process can be even faster if you use the -dbcache=1000 command line
parameter which uses an additional 1GB of RAM for the database index cache.

   Extracting the bootstrap.dat.xz

Regardless of your operating system, use the following steps to make use of the bootstrap.dat file:

1.   Download bootstrap.dat.xz from mirrors or torrent.
2.   Decompress the bootstrap.dat.
3.   Put it into the Goldcoin datadir. "%appdata%/goldcoin" / "~/.goldcoin"
(This is the same folder that contains wallet.dat and the blocks folder.)
4.   Delete bootstrap.dat.old if you want to recover some storage space.

    Goldcoin Data Folder

    Linux
Code:
xz -d bootstrap.dat.xz
Goldcoin's data directory is located in ~/.goldcoin/ by default. You can run ls -a to see
directories that start with a period. You can also search for the directory with the following
command:
Code:
find / -name wallet.dat -print 2>/dev/null

   Mac
You can obtain xz from MacPorts or http://macpkg.sourceforge.net/.
Goldcoin's data directory should be located in ~/Library/Application Support/goldcoin/.

   Windows
7Zip is a free utility that can decompress .xz files, so does the latest version of WinRAR.

Click on Start then Run (or press WinKey+R) and type:
Code:
explorer %APPDATA%\goldcoin
Goldcoin's data directory will open. "AppData" and "Application Data" are hidden by default in
Windows.

   Copy bootstrap.dat to data directory

Copy the bootstrap.dat to your data directory. Load the Goldcoin client and wait for it to load the
blocks. After loading is complete, the bootstrap.dat will be renamed to bootstrap.dat.old at which
point you can choose to delete it.

CRYPTOCURRENCY "THE ALT-ERNATIVE" REFERENCE BOOK

I have written the two preliminary pages for Goldcoin GLD.  I need help from the Goldcoin Community in order to complete the History and Miscellaneous sections.  I want important historical points included.  Any further suggestions are welcome.  Please consider donating towards the future publication of the book.  I expect it to be published in the summer.

Great job with the book! I can't wait to buy the first edition.  Smiley

One thing I would correct is that I am not the founder of Goldcoin (I'm the founder of the current Goldcoin forum). The founder of Goldcoin is "Unknown". He used several aliases, so I think "Unknown" would be best to describe him.

I didn't become involved with the currency until June 2013. This was the point at which we began the rebuilding process and assembling the current team. There is also a long list of useful URLs in the first post of this thread.

FYI:

The testing phase of CCE3 is complete and CCE3 is now in production on www.cryptocoinexplorer.com.

This means the testing address gold.cryptocoinexplorer.com is no longer valid and the main address gld.cryptocoinexplorer.com is the active address.

I started a new CCE thread when the conversion took place and locked all the old threads. The current CCE thread is: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=584847

CCE3 has a very efficient and easy to use API. Instructions can be found here: http://www.cryptocoinexplorer.com/api.html

The Goldcoin development team has a key to use the new developers message box feature not seen on any other explorer site.

If you have not been on CCE lately, give it a look, many things have changed over the last few weeks.  Smiley

Thank you for your work in maintaining the block explorer. It's an invaluable resource for the entire community.

Goldcoin P2Pool
Decentralized Server Location: USA/LA

Server Stats: http://inetrader.com:8221/static/

Statum: -o stratum+tcp://inetrader.com:8221 -u <your_goldcoin_address> -p <random_password>
Non Stratum: -o http://inetrader.com:8221 -u <your_goldcoin_address> -p <random_password>

Reducing DOA; Add +16 directly to the END of your WALLET address.
i.e. cgminer -o http://inetrader.com:8221 -u Dw1DLrwrrmf5Fqpa5MFPuie28hcRmss1ju+16 -p x

Just as a reminder, there are no accounts or coins stored by the pool. No confirmations to wait for....your coins are sent to you as soon as a block is found. Every block found is simultaneously announced across all the wallets in the P2Pool so there are less orphans encountered.

HEY a  decent P2 pool finally!
I'm the 5-8 Mhs on your pool for the week-end

12hours later....
WOW it works....
I'm SO tired of the two scam pools that get mucho-orphans high variance and reject valid found blocks.
They had me completely turned off Gold coin

So far I seem to be the only one that has figured out what a scam the other pools are and I'm enjoying the p2 pool mostly to myself.

It  almost makes it worthwhile to mine Goldcoins again..At least I actually get some coins on this pool..
The price and profitability is pretty much same as electricity costs to get...so it still a big risk betting on future growth..
