500 dollars is not much. I recommend you not to invest in the most expensive cryptocurrencies but pick the altcoins that are under $1. Choose alts from this list:
- TRON;
- Stellar;
- Cardano;

Do not choose coin because you like the increase or you like it personally with the coin, more filtering the information from the coin if you can read the candle try also analyze it with it, I'm sure you will find the best coin among the good, I can not suggest coin because I am still not focused on the market right now, my advice is try again filter coin even coin under 20 # in CMC could be the best for your investment.
