very interesting read, are there estimates what you can earn with a decent pc, and are you able to contribute pc power and still work on it or is it lagging and slow?
Lots of BOINC projects with different computing requirements (FP32, FP64, integer, CUDA, OpenCL, AVX etc) so it's difficult to produce a reliable estimate. But with a decent PC (high end GPU, high end CPU) I would say it's still possible to mine about 110-120 GRC per day (using both CPU and GPU, 24/7). That amount will slowly decrease, as Gridcoin's cruncher base grows and competition intensifies. No lagging will be noticeable, except in FPS games which are graphically intensive (but BOINC is preconfigured to automatically suspend GPU computations when user activity is detected).

I can't speak to the other projects, but I have a LOT of experience with Moo Wrapper and how to optimise my setups for D.Net work in general (after 19+ years I should know SOMETHING about that latter!).

As of right now, after the big Gridcoin runup of the last couple months, my "best" rig (pair of R9 280x and an AMD A10-5700 running the GPU only) is good for ballpark 800k RAC (once it maxes out, I swapped it to LINUX from Windows about a week back due to Windows borking something during a power outage) - generating rough ballpark 50 GRC/day on an energy cost of about 70 cents/day.
Swapping the R9s out for a pair of RX 470s would bump the RAC up to probably around 950k RAC generating more like 60-65 GRC a day at an energy cost closer to 40 cents/day.

In other words, it's NOT particularly profitable even with current GPUs on that project (the same rig with JUST the pair of 280x generates 600 h/s on ZEC for about $7/day right now and uses a hair less power) - but it DOES pay the electric bill pretty comfortably, and was covering electric cost more-or-less even before the recent price runup despite the older power-hungry cards.

Other projects might stack up better, they might stack up worse, the small amount of testing I did last year though indicated that the projects that looked like they WOULD pay out better had "not enough work" issues most of the time.

One out of two coins in green @poloniex, i like this trend!
Golem pumped yesteday, some of the hype occasionally spills over to Gridcoin, largely thanks to Nate (https://www.reddit.com/user/NateOnTheNet) who is relentlessly promoting Gridcoin on Poloniex, Reddit and on his own website.

Yes, Golem has pumped a lot but there is no moment in GRC coin. This year GRC price has changed from 500 to 3600 stats but still, it cannot able to secure good marketing strategy in the market because we need to focus on large marketing skills in order to make GRC reputable.

That's the hard truth, yes. But it's almost impossible to find a marketing professional who is willing to volunteer and we can't seem to make up our minds about finding and hiring one (although there's 30 million GRC in the Foundation, stored away for such purposes). So Gridcoin is still the 'raw deal' - no hype, no extravagant projections, no flashy animations.

Golem is a good short term profit coin and has aggressive marketing.

Gridcoin has zero marketing, aside from people who support nonprofit science.

Not really much question long term who wins.

Boinc & Gridcoin on Google Trends. The spike in the 3rd week of March last year was a very brief event. If coins continue expanding in Asia then this trend should be clearer soon.

Regarding Golem, current market cap $368,000,000 vs Gridcoin, current market cap $13,000,000

A new metric for the science community.

If you compare the google search terms Gridcoin , BOINC and Trump Idiot clearly Gridcoin has been the least searched

But if you narrow it down to just the last few weeks, a new pattern emerges

Team Gridcoin exists of course! Stronger than ever actually, #1 position on all BOINC leaderboards:
http://formula-boinc.org

And quite a few individual leaders, or very high placings, on the various projects.

Speaking of which, has anyone seen a list of projects that is sorted by FP64/FP32/Integer GPU usage?

I know Milkyway is FP64, and Moo Wrapper is integer, but no clue on the other ones and that info seems to be a bit of a pain to find for more than one project at a time.

... there is a reason why its not delisted.

The first two cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin and Namecoin are safe because they innovated.

The third currency, Litecoin, is safe because it innovated a little and brought another half of the planet into crypto, including people who had earlier cryptos that got squashed by governments.

The next group of significant innovations, Gridcoin, Huntercoin etc are safe because they are substantial improvements that are growing, they have not had their boom yet.

I am doing the same. The last pump a few weeks ago was actually very interesting. Despite being 100 % artificial, the price resisted and didn't dump because most people hold ed their coins. This shows that the community is first for science and then for profit. I am sure this coin will be in the top-5 in 2-3 years now that it has finally started to get noticed.

Gridcoin is probably one of the best coins going forward, I support it, etc.

But calculating group efforts to promote a coin in spammy ways is not the best way.

Gridcoin stands on its own, it could use more public awareness, but since it stands on its own it should not need "organized Spam" to promote it.

Most of the things in that blog post are good things to do, but once you tell people to do them they are no longer good things.
