he wouldn't have to review the elliptic curve algo.. all he would have to do is copy the algo from the nxt source code, hash that code, copy the algo from the original source, hash that code and then compare the hashes. That code has been reviewed by cryptographers already, no need to do that all over again.

The problem is that we don't have the original source.

what do you mean you don't have it? did it get lost and like you only have the compiled file?

Are you saying that if we got 2000 extra people purchasing $50,000 a day of NXT, that won't help NXT? I am very confused.

It will help create a Ponzi scheme.

Real strength is in something tangible, i.e. technological advancements and created products/services, where you can actually use NXT.

Simply tricking people to spend money to buy these, mostly useless, "shares" is not enough.

Marketing and promotions are important, but not 7 out of 9 millions! It should be something like a third or 25%.

No. What for? This won't give us the original code, only its copy that could have some differences.

Why is there a transaction from my account that I did not send?

Transaction id: 16521392718362128082

Recipient 8450504352895951699

1/16/2014 9:47:06 AM

Thankfully the amount of the transaction seems to be 0 (nothing). Is that something that is happening to others?
This is transaction to you account. With message. Take a look few pages back for post from marcus.

You got a wake-up call from me.

See here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4546497#msg4546497

Didn't expect that this would work even before account owners were able to actually read the message... :-)

If Nxt can't be successful without paid marketing and advertising, then it can't be successful.

what type of advertising and marketing are you planning?

this mirrors my thoughts about that topic.

Marketing and Ads are very important.
But I'm not sure if its the right way for nxt (its not an company with defined process structures) to define a budget first and than define what to do with it.
This only leads to consumption without prove content.

I like the idea to define a team of responsible members.
And I know this competent guys come up with very good ideas!
All others should contribute to an open discussion and include ideas.
This will lead to success automatically!

My account in signature. I didn't forge anything, only errors errors.

U have 22K, that's normal that u haven't forged a block yet.

So what does "error generating block" means? As I understand, everybody having NXT in account 1440 confirmations old, has a chance, depending on NXT quantity, to forge a block. If server is running and everything OK, block should be forged. Am I right? So what prevents to forge a block? Sorry for dumb questions, but I, as ordinary Joe, want to understand the problem. I want to be sure, that my PC is OK and that is just the algorithm matter.

If u see this error having 22K then it means with 99% chance that ur blockchain is not up to date.

First sold. Four left.

Second key sold in real life. Three keys left.

@spud3861: Actually this is a false positive. You forged two blocks on your account, so you do have a public key in the blockchain for this account.

I'll need to take a look at my code...

NXT will be more successful if more people understood it. There was a short term increase in XRP value from TV spot, but marketing takes repeated exposure. the first time an iMac was seen in a movie, people didn't go out and buy a new iMac. After the tenth time, though, people did start to consider not getting a IBM PC clone.

I don't understand how you can say paying to get new NXT'ers won't be effective. Are you saying that if we got 2000 extra people purchasing $50,000 a day of NXT, that won't help NXT? I am very confused.

Advertising works. Companies spend hundreds of billions of dollars per year on it. Why would we not use a technique that has proven itself? Not logical. It's like a C programmer that refuses to use struct?! Why would we limit ourselves in promoting NXT? Do we have to cripple ourselves? Should we compete against everyone else under a self-inflicted handicap?

I was thinking that we could develop a page that clearly communicates the benefits of NXT to someone who is considering purchasing some. We make it easy for them to purchase if they want to, say by using a credit card. We make it easy for them to get new clients, information, etc. A standard customer acquisition webpage. It would have a certain conversion rate and it could be used for a model for anybody to use to drive traffic to and monetize interest in NXT. Make it so that people can make money promoting NXT and the next thing you know, many people will be promoting NXT.

How can this be a bad thing?

It's a bad thing only because it won't work.

I keep hammering on this, but it's the truth.  Nxt isn't a product or service so you can't put it in that category.  It's a currency/ecosystem/protocol/whoknowswhat.  Paid advertising/marketing works really well with products and services.  You serve ad impressions to potential customers, a certain percentage click through to your landing page, a certain percentage of those convert and pay up.  It's lovely.  But it won't work like that with Nxt because it isn't a product or service.

Can you really imagine someone seeing a few Nxt ad impressions, clicking through to the landing page, reading a little, and entering their credit card info in exchange for some Nxt?  C'mon.  That will not happen.

It has to grow the same way Linux did.  The same way Bittorrent did.  The same way Bitcoin and Litecoin did.  First we need to build something awesome and then we can use clever tactics to get the word out.  Mass-marketing through paid advertising will not work.

I must not be communicating clearly.
Where do I suggest that we trick people? Where do I suggest we sell "shares"Huh

I am suggesting we make a page oriented toward getting someone on the fence about NXT to taking the $25 (or more) plunge to purchase actual NXT. I am not talking about tricking, but using the truth about NXT to get someone to buy actual NXT.

I did not suggest 7 million NXT for advertising and advertising shouldn't be all of a marketing budget, but it needs to be some part of the marketing budget. 3 million NXT for advertising sounds about right.

The marketing and PR gets people interested and curious, but  why not have an advertising page that converts 10% of the interested people to actual purchase NXT and get invested, instead of the current conversion rate, which I estimate to be less than 1%.

I am talking about increasing tenfold the number of people that we are getting interested in NXT actually becoming a stakeholder.

No tricks. No shares, actual NXT, actual stakeholders.

We are working so hard on the tech and getting PR, but there is no streamlined path to convert the interested person.

It is like optimizing software. Why not spend a little effort and make it go ten times faster? Why not spend some resources on converting 10 times more people from the same stream of interested people and of course add to that stream of interested people. 3 million NXT compared to whatever amount we have already spent on dev is a pretty small percentage.
