Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner

At the moment anyway it's a bit hit or miss no matter what.  I had a brokerage fee through UPS on the first Z9 mini and none on the second one which arrived a couple days ago, also via UPS.  Both from China for whatever that is worth.

DHL delivered my batch 2, no customs charges.

Yet.  I know UPS bills me for the "broker fee".  I have never had customs charges, but every shipment I get hit with a fee

Yes, but it's different since the British used to own it (no longer the case). One is a developed market (HK), one is emerging (China) in the MSCI indices. HK has its own legal system and acts separately than mainland China.

True, but this would have no effect on taxes, tariffs, or duties.

Well, I look forward to hearing from HK-shipped ASICs as to whether the receiver was assessed a customs tax--I did not with the origination there but I did when it originated from Shenzhen.

I've only paid when using UPS (either destination), DHL never charged me; though someone mentioned they got slammed for doing that somewhere I think in this thread, though, so DHL may not be the duty free option it used to be...

I had been following the shipment via the DHL online tracker.  When it got to destination DHL office, I saw the follow message:

Shipment held - Available upon receipt of payment

So I called them and they told me they tried to contact me but were unable to.  The lady then told me how to pay the duty online.

Bummer. DHL used to be the best option. How much was it?

I believe it’s probably the same chips, just the better ones that can be  clocked at a higher frequency. Would make sense from a production perspective.

Math doesn't add up that way unless I'm seriously missing something.

at https://service.bitmain.com/support/download?product=Antminer%20Z9 there is firmware for the Z9 that talks about changing the factory 500 to 550 at your own risk.

10(Ksol)/36(chips) = 0.277
42(Ksol)/48(chips) = 0.875

So each chip is producing a different hash rate between the Z9 and mini -- and the factory frequency is the same 500 for the 42k quoted in the manual.

.... otherwise, your logic is what I was betting on until I found/read the manual.

*EDIT*: ^^ ignore this non-sense I wrote -- Z9's have 12 chips per, 3 boards per (and awesomeminer reports board count as asic count, so 12 Z9 minis it reports as 36 which I blindly accepted).

So yeah.. probably the same chip, and maybe binned on the production line.

This would be good news for big Z9 buyers. 1 Z9 = 4 Z9 Mini. I expected it more like 3 Minis. This makes me believe the big one should hash at about 60KSols with overclock.

Aye, I'm hoping for ~64KSol to be honest -- at least that is what I modeled for when i decided to add them to the farm. Their support told me yesterday "shipping soon", so maybe by next week I'll know.

Received a 10 pc order of Z9 mini on Wednesday with Fedex through my business account.  I had Fedex clear them through customs and so far no mention of the tariff.  But they bill my account and the bill is about 10 days behind so I won't be sure about my luck until mid September.

I started up 4 of them late Wednesday.  Software interface is the same as my first batch.  Tried setting them to 750 OC first thing and all 4 crashed.  Then backed them down to 600 and all 4 worked fine.  After seeing other's experience in this thread, I increased them to 681.  They are stable at 681 for the past few hours and averaging 15 KSol/S each.

I'm a bit confused about the talks of the tariff. I'm currently expecting a few z9's from batch 1 shipped UPS to FL, but i'm going to get bent if customs charges 25% on the total value of the order. Is this confirmed or is there a way around this? I'm reading mixed opinions and can't seem to find a solid answer.

Hey @roc-noc - I have a business account with DHL. To use it, they instructed me to simply hand over my account number to Bitmain and as long as Bitmain cited the account number, I'd be eligible for my business discount/perks.

I contacted Bitmain support but they flat out refused, saying that they only use their own business account with DHL and could not use mine.

Does Fedex work the same way? How did you manage to have them ship through your Fedex business account?

Still prepaid shipping with Bitmain but gave them my Fedex account number for clearance.  And I contact Fedex each time I ship with Bitmain and tell them to clear and use my account as needed. I had to give Fedex POA the first time I imported Antminers.

FWIW  I import a lot but mostly from Europe.  Most of the companies that I buy from get much lower shipping rates than my company because of the volumes of export shipping they do.  And we have higher shipping rates in the US than most foreign companies.  Our bargain used to be with very low import duties until our current President decided to cancel all trade agreements.   It is going to get much worse as the third wave of tariffs threatens 25% on everything imported from China.  There is currently a lot of confusion at the border with China which is why some people get charged tariffs and others don't.  It is an ugly lottery.

I got my 2nd batch of z9 mini today. None of the 4 miner from this batch can hold 700 mhz clock, they can do 650mhz at 14.1k sol/s. Still fine tuning them for max hash rate.

2 miner from the first batch easily does 750mhz, 16k sol/s.

My 2 Z9 minis are being held at a UPS warehouse in Louisville, Kentucky. I am in Dallas, so I guess Louisville is a major UPS distro hub. I called UPS and they said the miners were being held up by FDA (Federal Food Administration) inspection. I did a double take and said, WHAT?!? The UPS International representative just said the inspection usually takes 2 days, so call back then. If it is held longer, then the FDA will contact me directly.

This, and getting hit with 25% tariffs. Not fun.

I got a ups online notification of $182 for import duties for z9 mini.  UPS shipped to california from HongKong.  This upsets me.  Is there anyway to dispute these outragious charges.

Did you buy your mini with a coupon?

It's just that 182 is not 25% of $850 -- so trying to understand how the import duty was calculated, and on your tracking information, did it originate from Hong Kong, or China?
