Notice he didn't say "customers"? They've been shipping boards to their farm all along. I have yet to see a single customer report a tracking number or delivery.

Yes.  There are a lot of people who don't think they will ship.  If anyone wants to put their money where their mouth is, I'm willing to take the other side of that bet now.  If not, that's fine.  Go about your business.  I just wanted to offer up a bet.  Those who think BFL is lying about shipping should be happy about my offer.  No sense in being hostile towards me.

You're jumping the gun. Until 1 actual customer reports that they received something or somebody posts a review I won't believe they shipped anything.  Ask Luke-jr about his shipping label

I am personally glad that I took the refund (and ordered my S3's in june with 2 weeks delivery). You can order 2 S3's delivering over 900GH for $570,- Why would you want to pay $1.379 for 700GH?!? And they look better too...

I was actually really, really surprised after I browsed the BFL forums after a long time. People are openly comparing Monarchs to S3s in the Monarch shipping thread and stating how disappointed they are at the price/efficiency/delays/poor compensations, etc.

I was expecting a completely totalitarian gestapo/stasi/North-Korea moderation over there after reading these BFL threads on Bitcointalk.

But it's still funny to see how Josh keeps acting so butthurt and defensive when people dare to state that maybe Monarch doesn't offer the best bang for the buck. Maybe he still genuinely thinks that the Monarch is the greatest success in mining hardware the world has ever seen.

So - yes, I am looking forward to what chip BFL comes up with... And test results are proving to be quite interesting:

KnC 28nm 1.5W/GH? Where did they get that from? My October Jupiter is 1.2W/GH at the wall.

And where is the real competition? My AntMiner S2 is 1W/GH and my SP10 is 0.76W/GH (I'm running it in the second "quiet" mode, 1.2TH/s drawing 910W. The first "quiet" mode is even more efficient).

Strange that Bitmain and Spondoolies-Tech are missing from the graph, considering they are so popular with miners right now.

Monarchs are finally shipping! It is late August 2014, and they went on pre-order in August 2013... so, first delivery one year later. No surprises there, BFL had a similar delay with their 60nm ASIC orders (pre-order June 2012, first deliveries June 2013). And when I say delivery, that's just the first orders. Subsequent orders will have many more months of waiting to endure, if history repeats itself.

And what about the much vaunted "0.39 J/GH" in 600 GH/s mode as per the marketing brochure above? Looks like the actual product didn't live up to the sales hype:

Actual performance at the pool is a bit shy of what was expected.  I tested one on GHASH.IO for a quick comparison and saw 660GH/s vs 620GH/s on P2Pool.  With my kill-a-watt saying they use 520watts per Monarch, that gives a real efficiency rating of ~0.8GH/watt.

So... about the same as my SP10 (running in "quiet" mode at 0.76 J/GH) and less efficient than my Neptune (3.4TH/s drawing 1.99kW = 0.59 J/GH). I own both of these machines and made the measurements at the wall myself.*

BFL spent so much time blowing their own trumpet about how the Monarch was going to be the World's Most Efficient Miner... and, quite frankly, it is not.

_{* Note: I look at the power draw fluctuations over time, and always choose the maximum number I see. Neppy normally draws about 1955W but one time I saw 1988W, so I rounded it up to 1990W.}
