Deflation was the norm when a gold standard was part of the US dollar system.    Over peoples lives the prices would actually drop considerably, its beyond living memory now as the Federal Reserve has been around since 1913 but at some point in history its previously been the case as now with Bitcoin that older prices always seemed higher.
  Technology would be one example still true, with rapid growth most prices from 2 years ago should appear far too high for that part.   Mostly what they do there is rebadge the brand to reflect the new level given for the price, maybe comparable I dont know.   Bitcoin itself now is far larger, the forum itself must have much greater reach then it did previously so its kinda upgraded over time also?


Actually I came to post a question on donations.  I have involvement with an ICO scheme that refuses to pay participants who did not present a passport or similar ID in 14 days.  I'm suggesting the company instead of ignoring the payments due to individuals, the successful ICO actually pay this forum collectively as they based part of their ICO and publicity off the back of the costs paid by this forum.

The donation would probably come in the form of crypto tokens (created in the ICO) of some worth on an exchange, would that be acceptable.   As per the original FAQ I'm going to suggest they contact Thermos as the amount should be well worth the effort but if anyone else can confirm a correct route that'd be good.

The main point on this donation would be KYC must be cleared hence the previous troubles but Im stating this forum would have no trouble clearing such a requirement as the company is complying with Austrian legislation.

As far as I am aware of, no. The donation page was updated last time in April 2017. Not everyone is affording to pay +$70,000 and mining Bitcoin is not as profitable and easy as before.

Not even sure donators funds are needed anymore: sent Theymos a PM months ago to donate and got ignored.
I then decided to support some members of this forum and their projects like OGNasty Tesla PowerWall and other projects. Great stuff.
Besides the "forum" itself there is the community behind it that worths other people support as well.

I have seen some projects claiming to be super eco-friendly but in the end all crypto investors want returns and most do not care about how the funds are generated.

In an ideal world eco-friendly crypto mining (and all things associated with datacenters, servers, electricity etc) are very important but at this stage of the game most people have no interest except profit. Even most of those pushing eco-friendly businesses forward just want to make a profit and not contribute to the cause. Intersting project though.

There's none and there won't be any (we're in a BTCitcoin forum [regardless of the equivalent value in USD] + it's unfair to those who donated in the past).

Exactly what I thought when I saw this amounts. This is 83.000$ as for today and this is the minimum amount of donation 10BTC which is a mindblowing figure. I think this should be lowered to 1 BTC and there will be few people happy to donate. If donations are not needed any more this should be clearly said or if there are no special ranks issued to donators.

I read the response to this, that the last time it was updated was last year, and I think that's a good thing.  Bitcointalk doesn't need any more donations as far as I know, and I think such donations (10BTC, or even 1BTC) are a waste of money at this point.  That kind of money would be better spent as a donation to a hospital or an organization that does good for the community.  As much as I'm a fan of this forum, there's no way I could justify giving preference to it over a library, children's hospital, or a charity. 

Even though a lot of charities are corrupt at worst, and waste money at best, I think bitcointalk would probably just sit on the funds and NO good would come of it.  The "donator" tag doesn't impress me anyway.

And if someone is still adamant on helping Bitcointalk financially, then maybe they can buy ad spots (not signature spots) on this forum. That way you will help the forum also and promote your business/initiative also, both at the same time.
