Wow ! Countersports is greaaaaat !  I was waiting that from a long time Smiley

But who is behind ? Because we need to trust the feed issuer.

That looks like betfair without betfair, really good job Cheesy
Who we need to trust? Yourself so you dont play or offer too small or big odds  Grin If i have understand right how that working?

You have to trust the feed issuer. But he has nothing to win by rigging an outcome (maybe just a one time gain on a strong bet), because that would basically be the end of his business.

So basically yes, this is a nice step forward !

The betting functionality in Counterparty is the only price driver behind XCP besides the very minimal 0.5 XCP, which is insignificant with regards to the price.

XCP is also the easiest way to trade assets and avoid btcpay. Maybe less significant but it's also the cheaper way to distribute dividends.

I don't see major adoption of the DEx happening until the betting functionality is widely used.

Issuing distributions in XCP will not happen for quite a while because BTC is the preferred currency and I don't see that changing anytime soon, if ever.

Counterparty and XCP will see increased use and adoption due to the betting functionality and everything else will be a distant second.

(This is just my opinion)
Could u please approximate when will the betting functionality be added ? Can it be added before the World Cup?

I will be launching a sports feed site very early in June and we will offer complete coverage of the FIFA World Cup and either most or all of the NBA Finals depending on how many games the Semis go.

We're still waiting for functionality to be added to Counterwallet, but that should happen with plenty of time to spare.

(The post below this is not me)
Is countersports made by the counterparty official dev team or some third party team?

As is visible in the announcement and on the application itself, the CounterSports application iwas not made by the official development team of counterparty
Quote
It is important to point out that we have great appreciation towards the Counterparty core developers but we are not them, we are independent developers.

Darkcoin Masternodes " shares" on XCP ?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg6868785#msg6868785

Very good idea with a Masternode cost reaching 15K$.

By the way, perhaps a silly question, but is there a project from devs to implement something like Masternodes with XCP ? It was an excellent idea from DRK dev :
- It has trigerred a steady rise, with investors trying to reach the required 1000 DRK.
- It has prevented holders to dump or even day-trade, with good earnings to come.

Does XCP need any kind of "proof of services" ? it would interest newcomers and be terrific for valuation (and so visibility)
Thanks

Noob questions:

1) When someone wants to make a bet he have to deposit XCP first and then wait for some other dude to deposit to the opposite side?
So the bet can happen after both sides deposits the correct XCP amount?

2) How does the games results are seeded into the chain?

thanks  Tongue

Hello pikuchato,

1) First off all, part of the beauty is that you do not "deposit" your coins to us. the coins are held in escrow by the network. you decide on an expiration for your bet. if someone will counter your bet by then, the pot winner will be decided by us.

Another important thing to note is that if you have placed a large wager, you can be partially matched with one address, and the rest of your bet will still be up for others to match, so you do not have to find a 100% match for your wager to count.

2) The results are broadcasted by us to the blockchain, using counterparty built in broadcast option. You can also view the results on the CounterSports application.

I've decided to go ahead and take the donations we've raised so far (0.97 BTC) and add my own money to it to get this thing started. Time is of the essence. We need to be primed and ready with informational videos for when the market turns bull.

If you still feel like donating, all donations will go to equipment and marketing efforts. Please also consider donating to Matt Y, as he is the lead on marketing. Marketing is very key right now! We aren't just marketing for 'our' benefit, we're marketing for the benefit of the entire financial market.

I'd like to request an update on this project - It's been over a month and Halfcab seems to have dropped away from the project without having delivered the video he raised funds for.

Counterwallet not sweeping in my funds for some reason.

This is my balance: http://www.blockscan.com/balance.aspx?q=1HgCn9B5BaYJK4WwvRPANfpdq2rJ82CaMA

And I followed these instructions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P33jqIjg67E

But when I put in the address and click Sweep nothing happens. Also there is no extra box that appears that asks how much I want to sweep. Any help would be appreciated!

IIRC, it's best to use Chrome for your browser.

As someone who uses betfair exchange frequently I can see the benefits of Countersports (no credit record or commission are big ones for me) but I have a question:

Do you have a specific plan for marketing this to your average user? The benefits seem clear to me but I am someone who owns xcp and bitcoin. Most of my friends would happily continue using betfair regardless of the disadvantages because they know it, trust it and can use fiat currency to bet. Many wouldn't like the idea of even using bitcoin let alone heading over to poloniex or bter to get some xcp to bet with.

So correct me if I am wrong but it seems like the use of Countersports will be relatively niche (i.e. used by those who are into crytpocurrencies) until bitcoin becomes more mainstream. Traditional bookmakers have elaborate advertising and marketing, luring people in with all kinds of free bets, so you're tackling giants here.

With all that said I am very impressed and will be placing some bets myself on the World Cup. I know this is just the start but I'm interested to hear how you think widespread use of Countersports will occur?
