Can we calculate the scalability then? Like calculating the XCP inflation rate against the burning costs for deploying a smart contract on top of Counterparty. Would be interesting to know.

From your link:

The first thing that comes to mind as the simplest solution to the "XCP running out" problem is to set a gas rate that's directly proportional to the remaining supply with the lower limit set to 0.00000001 XCP and rounding to the nearest 8 decimal places.

What will be the starting price then? How much XCP is needed for creating (1) a short and (2) a long smart contract?

Thanks a lot! Smiley

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

...I dont understand one thing, if xcp will be burn for gas the EVM and no new XCP are going to be created it means than XCP supply will decrease until 0?

I don't have answers to much of this, however, XCP is deflationary not inflationary. The supply only decreases and no new XCP will ever be made, smart contracts will only speed this process up.

I'm going to try out the Counterparty API for my 1CO. This looks promising.

There will be an update coming out later today on the progress and you can view past updates as well at: http://counterparty.io/news/

It seems likely that it will be out well before December, but making predictions on blockchain tech releases isn't the business I'm in. I'd suggest joining the Counterparty Slack channel, reading the updates, and trying to make your own determination.

Sorry I can't be more specific!

I've been monitoring XCP for a while now, accumulated heavily while waiting for EVM release. Then all of a sudden we get this massive spike in price right after Devcon. Insider info? Pending EVM release? So I decided to only sell a fraction of my holdings at the top (0.011).

I sure do regret that now. EVM is the biggest catalyst for XCP price there currently is, but it's in the hands of one lone guy in his basement who's currently stuck trying to decipher Solidity and generally lacking "the time and energy" to complete it.

Oh well.

Does Counterparty allow smart contracts at the current state of development?
If so, is there already a project which uses those smart contracts in production or at least on testnet stage?

Smart contract will go live on testnet pretty soon, no date though. They're not live yet.

The issue that I end up at with these types of tokens/coins is the depth level of projects.  For example, under counterparty is storj.  We downloaded and still have the software for Storj running, been there a few days and the drive areas are filling, but nothing is paid.  Now, that is not a complaint, but the observation is that true real “help” on these projects is hard to find.

But if i get answers to my queries, the project is good in itself.

Real, honest to goodness things like a good FAQ or a deep doc is hard to track down, sometimes not event there.  If you completely ignore this forum and search these things out, you have the counterparty site, the storj site and each of those has a couple official spin-offs.
