Can someone share a counterparty DB snapshot (or make a torrent or something, like the bitcoin devs do now) so I don't have to sync from scratch? It's only for testing, so I'm not worried about fake tx.

Bump

Try this.

Brilliant, thanks so much!

I tried Masterchest, the reindex is already done thanks to Counterparty

but the parsing... 56k blocks... ballpark estimation 60h !

While parsing the XCP db take 3h for me.

The GUI design is really nice tho. Jah, MightyX & flatfly, if you hear me  Grin

same here - just started - istallation is really easy, also like the design but was wondering how many blocks they have already. LORD

I think all DEX functions are disabled until now aren't they?

Yep, MSC DEX is supposed to launch in 2/3 weeks I think. If XCP web wallet is released before and if the DEX is working, XCP will keep the lead.

Guys,

Im talking to you as an average Joe.

I like the idea of this project, but I dont see where the road goes right now.

I could manage to burn a btc in the burning phase and I am excited of how this will evolve and Im planning to hodl so far, but I couldnt even sell XCP if I wanted. For me there are too many obstacles in the way that would enable me to buy, sell, trade, etc.

So this arises some questions to me:
- Will there be a user friendly Wallet some day, everyone is capable of using? I think thats a major reason for moste people not getting onto the XCP-train right now. I see in blockscan "only" about 2400 different addresses with XCP onto it. This is way too less in my opinion to get successful.
- What is the roadmap of the dev team? Is there any plans to get a wider spread of counterparty? Even IF we do marketing like hell, people couldnt use it because its not user friendly right now.

I dont want bitchin around. I deeply honor what the dev-team and community has reached so far. Im just trying to be a little bit constructive.

Cheers!

Hi,

Counterparty allows users to place trustless bets with the entire Counterparty ecosystem. This includes simply Win/Loss bets such as sporting event and more complex bets, which will allow you to speculate or hedge risk on currencies or commodities. Counterparty also does other things. For example, you can create a company and distribute dividends to shareholders easily, drastically lowering the cost of starting and maintaining a company.

Counterparty is four months old and still holds the most appeal for a small set of technically savvy users. The issues you mention in your post are exactly the reasons why there are only 4,000 unique addresses. However, we're happy with the growth of the project and I do not expect growing the community further to be an issue. Counterparty's focus has always been developing the protocol and that continues to be the case. As Counterparty becomes easier to use there will very likely be a large influx of new, less technical users.

Counterwallet is going to be a turning point for the project. The overall makeup and size of the community will most likely change drastically in the short to mid term after its release.

I'm not really a fan of marketing and PR trumping fundamentals of protocol which speaks for itself but I think with the recent Gox debacle the market is ripe for 'decentralised solutions for centralised problems' and a push towards DEXs such as counterparty.

Many people are unfamiliar of the term, unaware that such a thing even exists. I know we are not in a state where joe public can use yet, but to plant the seeds, I think now is a great time. I'll try to do my bit to introduce the concept.

I'm a bit confused on something. Is BoottleXCP the GUI that y'all have been working on, or is there an actual GUI being developed (without having to run counterpartyd in the background).

BootleXCP is third party GUI, developed by JahPowerBit with a skin by TheMightyX. FlatFly has packaged some windows builds. You can find info relating to the progress here:

https://forums.counterparty.co/index.php/topic,74.msg892/topicseen.html#msg892

And here is some info about the roadmap of this project. Currently you need to run counterpartyd in the background but a bright future ahead (it will help if dev's are incentivized by community donations for their work)

Phase 2

The purpose of this phase is to no longer be required to download all the blockchain to use the wallet. And to add the ability to use BoottleXCP as online private BIP32 wallet.
At the end of this phase BootleXCP can be used in four different modes:

Desktop Heavy: with bitcoind and locally blocks following
Desktop Light: without bitcoind and without following blocks
Server Heavy: BIP32 wallet installed in a private server, without any private key stored on the server
Server Light: same as Server Heavy but without bitcoind and without following blocks

CounterWallet is the 'official' web-based GUI that will not require local installation and blockchain download. You can track the progress here: https://forums.counterparty.co/index.php/topic,79.0.html

Excellent, thank you! FWIW BoottleXCP is fantastic and making great progress. Just wasn't sure if I was missing something.

How many XCP will exist? how are they mined/released after the first month?

2.6 million XCP were distributed in Jan. You can find all the records here: http://blockscan.com/burn.aspx

PhantomPhreak,

Will you please release the email exchanges you had with the hacker? (along with email headers too?)

If not, please say why you don't want to, or can't?

This is my second time asking you, and I have asked Busoni 4 times - no one is answering, please don't ignore us.

While checking my wallet balance
Code:
wallet
two unidentified addresses pop up with BTC on it. Where these came from? I transfered bitcoins to different address but in the same wallet. Was this created by counterpartyd or bitcoind itself and why?

These addresses are hidden in your wallet.dat. You can not see them in QT, but you still control all of them.

I don't understand why nobody is using the DEX? Using BoottleXCP it isn't really that difficult to use...so why doesn't anybody use it?

I'd just like to point out that the hacker talked exclusively to me (probably so he could use Freshdesk instead of email), so PhantomPhreak doesn't have the complete correspondence. I just messaged PhantomPhreak and am waiting for an okay before releasing the correspondence.

People who are part of the community have already purchased XCP.

New users need to
1. Reindex blockchain for a day or more.
2. Install py, counterpartyd and it's dependencies, configure the conf files
3. Run counterpartyd for the first time - takes a few hours
4. Install BoottleXCP
5. Not make any mistakes in any of the steps

Or

They could send BTC to Poloniex and buy XCP.

I hope the web wallet proves to be a game changer.

Bitcoin operates with anonymity, therefore if you have an input of 1 BTC and transferred 0.1 to an address, 0.9 comes back to you but on another address, such that it is not possible to externally determine if the intended transaction was 0.1 or 0.9. You control that address as its part of your wallet, its just the protocol and the client returning back change to you.

sure i strongly assume its ok. When I access the site it is reported that  Mal/HTMLGen-A was found... probably a false positive...

I will double-check it but it's most certainly a false positive.
Thanks for reporting this.

you're welcome.
Any update?
I need to be able to send xcp! People want to buy..
What is the fastest and safest way to get there?!
I am trying this for days now... super annoying.
Nothing against you. Highly appreciate your efforts!!

It appears perfectly clean to me.  Out of all scans made by urlvoid and virustotal, only bitdefender flags the domain (not the binary itself) for some reason. So, definitely sounds like a false positive.  Plus we plan to move the boottleXCP builds to a new, official website a few days from now anyway.

Computers these days really are too paranoid. It takes three attempts to run this file. First, Google Chrome tells me it can't be trusted and suggests that I discard it. I click "keep." Next, Windows Smart Screen says it's from an untrusted source. I say "run anyway." Finally, Norton 360 quarantines the file and I have to tell it to "restore" the file. Then, after all that, I can finally run it. It's like the modern nanny state has come to computers!

Wow, didn't expect so many hurdles.  I'll see what I can do to make this smoother in the future.  Out of curiosity, what reason does Norton give?

Not your fault. I could turn off that smartscreen crap if I wanted, but since I deal with my BTC/XCP on this computer I have everything turned up to be on the safe side. So maybe I shouldn't complain LOL. Norton says: Very few users, very new as reasons. Well DUH!! lol

Just to follow up on this, after a constructive discussion with xnova and Jah, everything is ready to allow publication of future Windows builds on the official BoottleXCP github. This will provide a public audit trail and the ability to GPG-sign commits for tighter security.
