Guys,
Im talking to you as an average Joe.
I like the idea of this project, but I dont see where the road goes right now.
I could manage to burn a btc in the burning phase and I am excited of how this will evolve and Im planning to hodl so far, but I couldnt even sell XCP if I wanted. For me there are too many obstacles in the way that would enable me to buy, sell, trade, etc.
So this arises some questions to me: - Will there be a user friendly Wallet some day, everyone is capable of using? I think thats a major reason for moste people not getting onto the XCP-train right now. I see in blockscan "only" about 2400 different addresses with XCP onto it. This is way too less in my opinion to get successful. - What is the roadmap of the dev team? Is there any plans to get a wider spread of counterparty? Even IF we do marketing like hell, people couldnt use it because its not user friendly right now.
I dont want bitchin around. I deeply honor what the dev-team and community has reached so far. Im just trying to be a little bit constructive.
Cheers!
Hi, Counterparty allows users to place trustless bets with the entire Counterparty ecosystem. This includes simply Win/Loss bets such as sporting event and more complex bets, which will allow you to speculate or hedge risk on currencies or commodities. Counterparty also does other things. For example, you can create a company and distribute dividends to shareholders easily, drastically lowering the cost of starting and maintaining a company. Counterparty is four months old and still holds the most appeal for a small set of technically savvy users. The issues you mention in your post are exactly the reasons why there are only 4,000 unique addresses. However, we're happy with the growth of the project and I do not expect growing the community further to be an issue. Counterparty's focus has always been developing the protocol and that continues to be the case. As Counterparty becomes easier to use there will very likely be a large influx of new, less technical users. Counterwallet is going to be a turning point for the project. The overall makeup and size of the community will most likely change drastically in the short to mid term after its release. Thats a nice summary, thank you. So I think the winner will be an easy wallet for people like me Also I cannot use the DEX and I depent on a CEX, cauz Im not willing fighting the jungle of installing huge mass of dependencies and learning the huge commands...

CounterWallet is a web-based deterministic wallet - which I'm also quite excited about by the way! - developed by xnova.

Poloniex is completely unusable--it's constantly down, or the page only loads half-way and you can't execute trades. I've been fighting it for the last two hours...absolutely horrible experience so far.
Still nothing. Unmitigated disaster.

With Mastercoin, Nxt and Emunie all forming distrubuted exchanges in this space, we're soon going to come up against stiff competition and comparisons are going to be made between each. I think a couple of points that will be compared are utility and market size, therefore I've started a thread for scratching out ideas on ways to utilize the protocol that hopefully can be implemented soon. If good ideas come out hopefully we can have offshoot threads, raising both awareness of counterparty and it's uses. Threads here! https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=488351.new#new

ddink7, Will you please take the Poloniex questions and requests to the Poloniex announcement thread which can be found here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=420836.0It will allow us to stay on the topic of Counterparty, which is desirable.

Matt, for better or worse, XCP and Poloniex are currently inextricably linked. The Counterparty DEX is not being used to any reasonable degree, so newcomers have exactly ONE and only one means of buying into this project--a nonfunctional exchange (Poloniex). I apologize if you think my comments are irrelevant; I will try to do better in the future.

Wouldnt it be better to concentrate all effort of several programmers into ONE general GUI? Pull together instead of doing ones own thing. I think the others dont sleep, noone wants to be outstriped by the competitors

- Counterparty works only on the bitcoin blockchain ledger. It will not work on top of any other currency's blockchain. - An asset can be created in Counterparty that represents an alt-coin, for example LTC. This asset can be traded against XCP in DEX. The person who has issued this asset needs to back it up with real LTC. - Creating an asset comes at a cost, currently 5 XCP I think. Have a look at the Counterparty wiki, specifically the assets section https://counterparty.co/wiki/assets
