You should really be careful in which alt-coin you invest in,
I suggest that don't put it in an ICO and some new alt-coins  because sometimes even the alt-coins that is already listed their developer would leave the project.

I want to invest 500$ on altcoin but I really confused on which coin I can invest and my investment will be long term. Please experts help me to choose altcoin to invest.
$ 500 now you can buy a huge fortune in the future. I suggest you support XRP. Buying and holding it long will get a lot of profit in the future. This is a real business and its value is estimated on the market as real. So do not worry too much about this down market when investing in XRP.

Today you can buy a 2,5 ETH, which is a good amount to start a career cryptocurrency trader. In other cases, you should seek only to long-term investment.

Hey , buying a worthy ICO project can make you a pile, if you know what you are doing. In this case, Ternion looks okay to me for a little look-in https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4625175.msg41773542#msg41773542

of all cryptocurrencies, I still believe in investing Ethereum. Many potential coins like Tron, Ripple, etc ... but Ethereum is still the most superior.
Now the price starts to crawl up again, and there are good opportunities for investment now.

A long time since the original post in this thread, but general good advice in a bear market I think is to put money into BTC rather than alts, as it is often BTC that leads the recovery, with alts following later.

Try your luck at roulette: ICO go to the market and try not to put money into a fake. It can be very difficult, but I hope that you're lucky.
Invest in after market tokens/coins or the best thing to invest is on those good crypto in the market like BTC, ETH and other that are listed on coinmarketcap.com. The first list in the ranks were totally fine when you invest to it.

Trying your luck here will.not going to work. There are many scam projects here and mind you you should not trust anyone here.

Basically, if I would have 500usd laying around and I would want to try my luck once again in the crypto market I would do the following. I would search up 3-5 coins (5 max!) that I like and see indeed succeeding even when the bear market is making the situation hard. I would choose the coins from the top 100, more "secure" Wink.

Then I would make the purchases and wait. It just might happen that I come out as a winner Wink

If you want safer returns, then start with putting this money in bitcoin and a few other top ranked coins. Invest in riskier coins when you have more experience.

invest in ethereum because the coin has a large daily exchange, and most ico coins use ETH for payment so that will greatly affect the price increase.
or you can buy bitcoin for savety and for longterm investment.

Ethereum for 500 dollars is only 3 pieces but still good for longterm. Because the value of ethereum is $150 dollars plus but maybe your $500 become more than 30,000 dollars in just few months the more the you invest the more you get  just add more if you have some extra cash.

Stakenet (XSN) is defs one you should look at if you are looking for potential explosive growth. Here’s why:

  • They invented TPoS which is arguably the best offline staking solution.
  • They were the first POS/MN coin to implement Segwit, Atomic Swaps and Lightning Network
  • They were the first to perform Lightning Swaps on mainnet and publish a guide so anyone could try
  • They have confirmed integration with Ledger and Xeeda wallets for Cold Staking
  • They formed a partnership with Litecoin Foundation to develop Lightning Network - https://litecoin-foundation.org/lightning-network-collaboration-with-x-9-developers/
  • They launched their Cloud Staking platform supporting XSN, PIVX and Stratis currently with more on the way
  • They launched their Masternodes as a Service platform which they setup, maintain and update your MN for you. It is a trustless service so you keep your collateral safely in your own wallet
  • They launched Masternode monitoring and RSB services.

Now that was all 2018 and was to lay the foundation for what’s coming this year. They just released their roadmap for 2019 and its awesome:
https://stakenet.io/roadmap/

The next release is going to be their Multi-currency Light Wallet which is going to be special. Their MN network is going to host all the Blockchains so the wallet doesn’t need too, you interact with the Blockchains by signing Lightning Invoices. This keeps the wallet lightweight as it only needs to hold your private keys so can be put on any device.

https://medium.com/stakenet/multi-currency-wallet-and-lightning-swaps-stakenet-solution-7d0dafe99105

The next thing is their DEX which is also run via the MN network and utilises their Lightning Swap tech. This will mean P2P trading, straight from wallet to wallet, not having to trust a third party with your funds. They also have Frank Amato helping with the design to make sure it is fully featured exchange that has everything a pro trader would need.

They have even more coming as well like privacy features, CCPoS  and Dapps hosting. They also have their own Hardware Division which is also going to be bringing new and unique products to market.

The big picture here is that they have a hell of a lot of potential, their Lightning Swap tech alone is game changing. For example a retailer accepts BTC but you have LTC you can pay no problem, the Lightning Swap tech will convert your LTC for you as you make the payment to BTC for the retailer. Oh and the best part is that every services running on the MN network will collect fees for providing the services and all of those fees go back to the MN holders. So for example all the trading fees from the DEX get paid back to MN holders, this provides MNs multiple revenue streams for passive income.

Stakenet are a top tier project with a low tier market cap of around $7M, even going to $14M Mcap is 100% gain and that's still laughably low for what they have already achieved let alone what's to come. That won’t last forever though as this years releases start dropping and people begin to notice. If you look on Ledgers Github you can see they working on a XSN integration right now.

https://github.com/LedgerHQ/lib-ledger-core/pull/79

There aren’t many if any projects that have more potential for this year than XSN in my opinion.

Altcoin investment can be very profitable and dangerous at the same time, we have seen major altcoin loses up to ninety percent of their market value last year and this is a strong message about how much risk you are taking by investing in altcoin.  I will advice you invest in bitcoin first and try few altcoin later.

Half a thousand is not enough to invest in Bitcoin (in my opinion, sure). I guess, the better variant is to buy several good altcoins, which are cheaper. Get, for instance, NEM, TRON, Stellar, Cardano.

You practically gave an example of some of the highest-rated coins, but still forgot to mention everyone, so not only is a good coin for investment, but also as a platform that is the most important in the cryptocurrency world.

It seems to me that this is a good amount for investment now. At the moment there are a lot of cheap coins with great prospects. Invest in top coins.

You can actually go for any top coin because the market have slip down a bit and is likely to gain momentum in the coming days likely But if you want to get into some i will recommend Tron or Vechain for long hold there will be maybe some serious gain keeping them due to high devs

you'd better do some research yourself. many people here can't fully believe it. if u are a long-term investment, you'd better choose some coins with practical value.

I want to invest 500$ on altcoin but I really confused on which coin I can invest and my investment will be long term. Please experts help me to choose altcoin to invest.

Divide the sum into several equal parts, locate the 10 projects and invest them. Wait a few years and get profit. It's very simple.

So, you offer to invest 50 dollars in each project (if the guy picks ten tokens). Probably, it is a very good decision. Cheaper altcoins often grow faster than the expensive cryptocurrencies.

invest coins in top 50.
dont invest other scam coins.
you can lose 90% of your money like most of us

a very sensible opinion, it would be better if we invest in a trusted altcoin, don't try to invest in a new ICO or altcoin that isn't necessarily clear about its future. it will be very risky for your finances.
