http://vtc.kilovolt.co.uk/index.php seems compromised again.  No transactions update and no payout and zero unconfirmed.

There is no issue and the pool is not compromised.  If you have a specific support request concerning an individual transaction or your account then please come to IRC #vertcoin on freenode and pm me (Aleks_N) and we will get it sorted.  People are being paid out as normal when blocks are found after 120 confirms.  It would be nice to get a support request before suggesting we have a genuine issue.

Thanks

Azure Vertcoin Pool

DDOS reisistant P2Pool Node

http://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171/

To connect to this P2Pool node simply point your miner at:

URL: stratum+tcp://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171
Username: Your vertcoin address
Password: Anything

Sample configuration

cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171 -u VbNPoxNeiNg6Bj9RwjjS4GazDbKLgUqNDP -p X

Fast facts

1. P2Pool nodes are all part of one single, big, distributed pool
2. When any p2pool worker on any node finds a block, everyone on all the nodes gets paid their share
3. There is no pool wallet, and hence no payout threshold. Payments go directly to your wallet
4. The distributed nature of p2pool resists DDoS attacks

Decentralize the hashrate!

For people running P2Pool with P2PoolExtendedFrontEnd and who keep getting "Error in DeferredResource handler:" errors when the Graphs page is called,

Buzztiaan fixed them:
https://github.com/buzztiaan/P2PoolExtendedFrontEnd

Might be nice to slap the (to be chosen) VertCoin logos onto it though, right now there's a few big LiteCoin logos on it.
Edit: And a lighter logo might be nice as a background, http://imgur.com/a/hpYHw

Ok I just hatcheted this together for a reference point.

30VTC For best #betterthanbitcoin meme. Will put it to a vote.

This is not a winner!   Grin

But you get the idea, and if someone want to make this concept prettier I kinda like the reference...bought a lot of platinum futures last week when I wasn't busy flippin' bits for verts.

PS- For the FB posts from yesterday, whilst you didn't follow directions exactly I have the list and will send out in the next couple hours, my social media people explained that I would be better off buying some good crack to smoke with the money than the rent a page scheme so I bowed to their wisdom. I do appreciate your enthusiasm though and it was helpful to see the idea implemented for perspective.

I like this idea Smiley

Any takers?
I bumped to 30VTC first place
20VTC second place
10VTC third place.

You can post them here and the vertcoin facebook page if mods are cool with it.

Joining in the meme fun!

Ah so nice to see a dog that is not a doge.

A request, somewhere in small print add the #betterthanbitcoin hashtag to the memes. We want to push away from the rest of the altcoins, its a bold claim and will push some to look deeper and learn why vert is better, or generate dialogue at the least. Goal here is to reframe the perception that bitcoin has no peers vecause it does now.

you use mirc?

Thanks for the update.  I saw there is sharp decline on pool hashrate so I thought something wrong again
http://vtc.kilovolt.co.uk/index.php?page=statistics&action=graphs

I also trying to monitor the transactions because seems no update for 4 hours.  The average transactions I have with your pool and other pool was like 1 to 2 hours with auto payout.  The mining has no issues and I can see the hashrate is stable.

@jballs: Thanks Smiley! Here you go (+1 more just for fun)

Back to mining and sleeping Tongue.

On a more serious note, while I truly do believe VTC's merits, my experience has taught me that it's usually better to focus on your merits than on someone else's flaws. This meme thing is fun but if we want VTC to grow IMO the best way would be to talk about its benefits, and not so much about BitCoin's flaws. Just my two cents.

Well we aren't bashing bitcoin. I love bitcoin. I own a shred even. I am nonplussed by their handling of Mt Gox at the moment as there is no excuse for what they have done beyond total ignorance of hoe financial markets function (or don't). But we will be entangled and dependent on bitcoin for the foreseeable future regardless, I want them to thrive. The point of the hashtag is to force a side by side comparison. This as I said can bring a dialogue as to the merits of each (bitcoin is currently way stronger in several areas obviously), but it will entirely cement Vertcoin as being not like any of the altcoins. That is the meta message. We have two classes of coin, the clone circus and the contenders. VTC is a contender and we want that clear. Whether it can beat bitcoin or stand toe to toe is up to the market to decide. But I want both to do well. I even want doge to find a happy place with the tweens trading pokemon cards at /b/

But alright hashtag is entirely optional and in fact we (I) can stamp it in later if it suits the venue. Appreciate your thoughts.

I see your point Smiley. I'm leaving the hashtag in! Yeah VTC is a strong contender, I'm this "" close to removing/exchanging all my other cryptos into VTC.

To anyone who wants to quickly hack BAMT to use vertminer do this as root:

Code:
git clone https://github.com/Bufius/vertminer-gpu.git /tmp/vertminer
cd /tmp/vertminer
./buildit.sh
cp -R /tmp/vertminer /opt/miners/vertminer
cp /opt/miners/cgminer/ADL_SDK/* /opt/miners/vertminer/ADL_SDK/

Then create your vertminer.conf file in /etc/bamt/

Now edit /opt/bamt/gpumon...

Modify the IF loop around line 374-ish like so:

Code:
if (${$conf}{'gpu'.$key}{'cgminer'})
{
        ## MODIFIED FOR VERTMINER!
        # system("screen -r cgminer");
         system("screen -r vertminer");
}

Then edit /opt/bamt/common.pl...

Modify the ELSIF loop around line 960 like so:

Code:
elsif ($pid == 0)
{
        $ENV{DISPLAY} = ":0";
        $ENV{LD_LIBRARY_PATH} = "/opt/AMD-APP-SDK-v2.4-lnx32/lib/x86/:";
        $ENV{GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS} = "1";

        ## MODIFIED FOR VERTMINER!
        # my $cmd = "cd /opt/miners/cgminer;/usr/bin/screen -d -m -S cgminer /opt/miners/cgminer/cgminer $args";
        my $cmd = "cd /opt/miners/vertminer;/usr/bin/screen -d -m -S vertminer /opt/miners/vertminer/vertminer $args";

Restart your miners and you should be using vertminer.

I'm now in the middle of creating my own ubuntu 13.10 live distro which includes BAMT and is dedicated for vertcoin - will start a thread when I get a chance.

If this was helpful to anyone hit me up with some LTC or VTC - I'm poor  Smiley

Hi Mousebat!
Did you manage to create your distro? I'm a linux noob and while I use BAMT currently to mine various cryptos, I'd love to mine VTC using a dedicated bootable usb stick... Please let me know how you get on!

I agree. I think the "better than Bitcoin" thing is tacky, frankly, and smacks of desperation.

To be honest I don't think Vertcoin can compete against Bitcoin/Litecoin through Twitter hashtags and proselytizing. To the extent it becomes a success it will do so due to a massive influx of post-ASIC GPU miners. At that point you won't need side by side comparisons - you'll have a load of people mining the coin and they will generate their own enthusiasm.

You'll never convince the man in the street that Vertcoin is preferable to Bitcoin or Litecoin because its relative merits are nerdy, and intangible to the end user; and anyway, most people don't give a shit about cryptocurrencies to begin with. Vertcoin's distinguishing features are primarily ideological and concern only those involved in its creation. You won't solve this with a jpeg.

Either the mining community's interest in a post-ASIC GPU coin will elevate Vertcoin, or the coin will flounder.

some points from http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/1xddaq/ideas_suggestions_etc_going_forward_my_take/:

  • Yes, Vertcoin is anti-asic.. but nearly 100% of the population doesn't care The average person doesn't care about ASICs (or even know what they are). We have got to move technical speak out of the Vertcoin vernacular if we want to really connect with people. What does Vertcoin mean to the average person? People care about jobs, money, security... What can Vertcoin do about this? (Much of this is what cryptocurrency can do about it.. in this way we are making people associate these neat features with Vertcoin.. So instead of distinguishing Vertcoin from Bitcoin we are equating "the new money" with Vertcoin.
  • Organization: The first thing we need is a way to get organized. A subreddit doesn't do the job. We need a way to organize tasks and manage time. To see what other people are doing and to see what needs to be done. This should be something like Zoho where we can not only post tasks with due dates (and penalties for being late) but also create help desk tickets for bugs.
  • A way for people outside to connect. Let's take a step beyond what is expected with a coin and really connect with people on different levels. The vertcoin website should be the main portal to the vert world. How about a toll-free number and support email prominently displayed? Most people won't call.. but it instills trust and gives the impression that you're here to stay. It's $5 a month. Putting an email address at the header also makes people feel secure.. to be able to contact someone if they have questions. And how about the ability for them to easily open a support ticket in case they have questions? (This could be handled by multiple people)
  • -The story. Learn from Dogecoin. Why is Dogecoin so successful? Because it is the first coin the creates an emotional connection with people, and makes the difficult seem easy. We need a way to do both. How to emotionally connect? Stories. What is the story of Vertcoin? How are we going to connect with basic emotional needs? Bitcoin? Story. Litecoin.. not really. Dogecoin? Story.. And Vertcoin? No story yet.
    The story could be a re-hash of the parts of the Bitcoin story that have worked for it. What makes Bitcoin interesting to the average person? What do people care about? Bitcoin means freedom. Ok, so the story of Vertcoin is we're building a system to make you financially free. We are your heros and you can help us help you!
  • I would suggest the following: 1) develop a mascot that looks like Astroboy.. Young, cute, big eyes, friendly-looking, with clean light pastel colors. Put him in a little astronaut suit. He is from planet Vert and here to save the world with vert coins! He will save the world by saving jobs and making you richer. The financial system needs to be fixed. Vertcoin is the one to do it. Give him a personality. He is allergic to bullshit and sneezes when he hears it. And he likes to dance.

I would add to the above that the general population doesn't care about mining, either.

Dogecoin is successful because it connects with the average person. It makes the complicated seem easy. Vertcoin has too much technical detail for the average person to understand (or care). Put it in terms that the average person will care about, like the above.

Check out Maslow's hierarchy of needs and let's find out which one Vertcoin will stick with: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs (the choice is obvious when you look at it) This is what brands and marketers do. They don't go by what they like.. they go by what their potential market likes. Vertcoin can't see the forest for the trees at this point, I think. Did VHS win over Betamax because it was technically superior? No. It won out because VHS connected with people emotionally by allowing them to record more on the tape (allowing them to be more creative), which is what people preferred over better technology or a sharper picture.

If Vertcoin is to be as successful or even moreso, it must do the same. We must get non-technical people on a board of directors along with technical people and get organized. Otherwise we'll spend 4 weeks making every little decision while other coins that are more organized bypass us.

Vertcoin will not win by focusing on its tech. In 3 months, there will be a better coin. The technical side of it is really not that important. Miners care, but the average person does not. I'm almost inclined to say the average merchant does not, either.

We need to shake off the crypto world with new feautures, like is it possible to implement a sort of trollbox in the wallet? Or maybe we should think about some feauture wihch is useful and funny at the same time but I can't think about any at the moment. Vert is a pretty solid coin but it just need to get known by the masses
