I would add to the above that the general population doesn't care about mining, either. Dogecoin is successful because it connects with the average person. It makes the complicated seem easy. Vertcoin has too much technical detail for the average person to understand (or care). Put it in terms that the average person will care about, like the above. Check out Maslow's hierarchy of needs and let's find out which one Vertcoin will stick with: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs (the choice is obvious when you look at it) This is what brands and marketers do. They don't go by what they like.. they go by what their potential market likes. Vertcoin can't see the forest for the trees at this point, I think. Did VHS win over Betamax because it was technically superior? No. It won out because VHS connected with people emotionally by allowing them to record more on the tape (allowing them to be more creative), which is what people preferred over better technology or a sharper picture. If Vertcoin is to be as successful or even moreso, it must do the same. We must get non-technical people on a board of directors along with technical people and get organized. Otherwise we'll spend 4 weeks making every little decision while other coins that are more organized bypass us. Vertcoin will not win by focusing on its tech. In 3 months, there will be a better coin. The technical side of it is really not that important. Miners care, but the average person does not. I'm almost inclined to say the average merchant does not, either. I agree with what you're saying in terms of connecting with the average person, but I believe you are absolutely incorrect in saying the technical side is unimportant. Credibility is essential and while the average person may not understand everything they hear about anti-asic and zero-cash, they pick up on the general vibe that the technical community does have towards those things. Otherwise what separates VTC from all the scamcoins out there? To be successful Vertcoin must have three things. - A solid technical side in the background
- a solid infrastructure (it needs to have things you can do other than mine and speculate)
- common people to connect to it and believe in it
If any of those three things fail we might have an ok coin, but with all three, we can be #betterthanbitcoin.

We need to shake off the crypto world with new feautures, like is it possible to implement a sort of trollbox in the wallet? Or maybe we should think about some feauture wihch is useful and funny at the same time but I can't think about any at the moment. Vert is a pretty solid coin but it just need to get known by the masses
One thing that did seem to build massive amounts of community w/ another well known coin is the trollbox in the mpos pools. Just a suggestion.

It would be nice some kind of trollbox where users can get random VTC amounts in random time, something that works like a faucet/tipbot and it would be cool if it was implemented directly on the wallet

I just got done reading an article about people getting their bitcoins stolen from them by a wallet app maybe as far as security goes we can provide something better like only download wallets and miners from the official site to give people a more secure feeling about investing their hard earned monies into vertcoin you know giving more trust into our coin I think that will go along way in the future of vertcoin

Hi Just wondering if there's a rough estimate of VTC/Mh out there? Else, could anyone enlighten me as to the best profitability formula to use for VTC, I can't seem to find any anywhere Anyone care englightening me on the above please? :-( You can estimate your daily coins with 1 MHash/s using: 86400/((2^32*difficulty)/1000000)*50 so at the current difficulty you'd get about 86400/((2^32*122.22047382)/1000000.0)*50 = 8.22962266 VTC/day

I would suggest the following: 1) develop a mascot that looks like Astroboy.. Young, cute, big eyes, friendly-looking, with clean light pastel colors. Put him in a little astronaut suit. He is from planet Vert and here to save the world with vert coins![/li][/list]
Now that's a great idea! Vertcoin will save Doge miners from ASICS, they need a mascot to rally around. What should this Vertcoin mascot be called? Should he/she have anything to do with the 'vertan/spartan' images that have been going around?

If any of those three things fail we might have an ok coin, but with all three, we can be #betterthanbitcoin. Do you feel the technical side is the first or second most important for Dogecoin? It really is "just another coin" when you think about it. But it has a unique concept that connects well with others. It is not a superior offering. It would have been just as effective if they bought it for 0.1 btc off the internet, with the same concept and community. I'm suggesting that, in order for Vertcoin to succeed, we must realize that it is not superior technology that will bring us there. Thus, it should not be the most important thing. That which will make Vertcoin succeed should be the most important. For your #3, that won't happen with a focus on the technical. Unless we KISS. We need to poll regular people to find out how they feel and what they need.

I have an idea to stimulate the mining of VTC and to get some attention and consolidate the community: Why not making an innovative form of giveaway/tip/faucet? It's just an idea, but we could make a chat or a trollbox where people get tipped with random amounts of coin every x time. The amount of the payout depends on the amount of coin donated or as an alternative if you dont want to donate you can give your CPU hash power to mine coins that will get directly into the wallet of the tipbot/faucet. Imagine 40-50 miners (or more) getting their cpu power together to mine coins that would go redistribuited to the network, and if they are lucky enough they can get a % of what is mined by everyone at random times. I hope I was clear enough since english is not my first lenguage

If any of those three things fail we might have an ok coin, but with all three, we can be #betterthanbitcoin. The average non techie investor/user needs to be able to easily buy the coin from a trustworthy soul who can help them through the initial few purchases. Right now it's a dogs breakfast finding a bitcoin dealer & hoping like hell it's not some seedy outfit. That's something that's newsworthy which can be duplicated at both a national and local level.

Another thing that is not being considered is the impracticality of using Vertcoin for currency. The average person does not want to deal with fractions.
Imagine that Vertcoin was in the top 3. What is the marketcap? Let's say $5BB. How many Vertcoins would a loaf or bread cost? A pair of shoes?

by the way.. I would recommend re-designing http://vertcoin.org/index.cn.html for Chinese tastes. There's too much white space and not enough bling. (source: I live in China)

Should he/she have anything to do with the 'vertan/spartan' images that have been going around? We should be future-proofing Vertcoin. If we want Vertcoin to be accepted in retail locations and other places, we must design for women. (As most consumer purchases are made by women) Again, we are thinking like developers and not considering what it would take to build a global brand. I would suggest either a green 4-leaf clover or a cute and loveable astroboy-type figure that people can connect with emotionally. If we only want to appeal to other devs and miners, then the Spartan mascot would be a great choice.
