The king in ozziecoin's analogy is gmaxwell.
The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

Are they going to get white hats to vet the code before having other guys publicly review it?

I know mindfox best from his work on Version (coin).  While the coin failed, Mindfox held the dev's hand through all the issues the coin had with the wallet up until the dev bailed
completely. he knew his stuff and patiently worked through a lot issues just because he wanted to help a struggling coin.

Edit: He was also the dev that finally fixed XBCs trainwreck of a wallet.

Quote from: Evan Duffield @ darkcointalk.org
So I've already implemented half of what I need for cold storage of the masternode funds. That secondary key that's in the config will be shared between the cold and hot daemon.

Cold storage for Masternodes is on the way. Smiley

Why is this stuff becoming more arousing than porn? I think I need to book myself onto a program of some sorts.

How about getting Andreas Antonopoulos to look at the code ? I like him and he seems to be a really reasonable and open minded person.

Should we try to think of a bunch of well known/trusted people to ask to check out the code.

Post your suggestions in a quote.

Here are a couple of charts, one is the bitcoin chart, the other is darkcoin.

You have to be careful comparing these charts because, aside from the differences in fundamentals between the coins, the bitcoin chart is priced in dollars (a stable currency that traders do not generally tend to look beyond - ie "if I sell my Bitcoins here how many Euros will I get for my dollars today compared with yesterday") and the darkcoin chart is priced in Bitcoins (a volatile currency the dollar value of which traders check multiple times per day).

Not only should you not compare these charts. It makes really no sense at all. Why not look at the chart of the first Bitcoin rally to 270? Why not take the Enron chart, the apple or google chart in any given period time, bubble, decrease, etc... It really all makes no sense.

As someone said earlier. The fundamentals determine whether to be long or short, TA can be used for short term resistance levels etc

We want to make it clear that automatic checkpointing is a temporary solution that will be removed from the code as soon as we feel it is safe to do so. Though it is clearly beneficial for use as a failsafe mechanism while we perfect the code that powers Darksend, in the long term, the presence of a centralized checkpointing server on the network is unacceptable.

Sorry for my ignorance if this is covered elsewhere, but why is a centralised server necessary? Why couldn't for example new versions of the mining code contain a key which must be included in each solved block after a certain date for that block to be considered valid by those that have updated correctly? Thanks.

Because not everyone updates their client in a timely manner.  If the miners do not update, then the blockchain will fork.  It will fork until most of the clients are updated and it has a strong enough blockchain in the system to resist any forking.  This should only be required until all the dust settles.  I think Evan will keep it in place a little longer so that if there are any other issues while perfecting DarkSend, it will be there to keep things going.  Once Darksend is opened sourced it will be removed if not before then.

I'm guessing that it forks when multiminers come in to mine.  Those are pools that don't follow what is going on and are not part of our community, so the drop in, with old clients and a lot of hash power, and screw everything up.  Not on purpose, but that is the result.  I believe Evan said in another post, that the client will eventually ignore bad players like that, but don't think that's working yet Smiley

why not put the version number into the block-generate-information and set up a 80%-rule.
(i think BTC does it this way)

if eg. 80% of the last 1024 blocks are signd with the new version the fork starts.
it would assure that the main fork is stronger and does not further fork.
the missing 20% can fork as often as they want, they will never gain the majority.

// im talking about the future.
// this time we need the hardfork, i know that.

And don't forget to thank the unsung crowd of President Chaeplin, fernando, eltito, propulsion, so many voluntary testers and others who are constantly working behind the scenes, not to mention the perma troll fighters (you know who they are).

I am one of those who hasn't forgotten AnonyMint either and how he initially shaped the Darksend MN discussions and how Evan took everything to another level. It is good to remember it from time to time.

i dont, and i would definitely add coins101, cosmos (not seen lately) and tante, TsuyokuNaritai, Alex and icebucket, minotaur and ozzy to the list.

You are too naive. The charts wont simply the same as there many differences, such as time, stakeholders, foundations, environment, policies, etc.

The darkcoin official twitter account should be utilized as the main news channel. This is because users won't have to skim through lists of useless information and fud. However, the twitter account is being poorly updated. For example, evans latest update is missing.

It's an issue. Investors need to be able to get a grasp of what is going on in a split second. I recommend sorting this out for increased transparency.
