******** Amber alert *********

Kim dotcom has fallen out of favour with the powers that be at Paypal and Visa and he's switching to Bitcoin.

http://insidebitcoins.com/news/paypal-drops-mega-due-to-use-of-end-to-end-encryption/30335

ok, so this could get really interesting.
There had better be plenty of mixing going on, otherwise he'll be looking for yet another alternative payment system.

Probably one of the best realizations about Paypal's position...

Quote
Mega quoted PayPal as saying the encryption methods create an “unknowability of what is on the platform.”

...that's the whole point. You realize you literally just released a statement saying you are against user privacy? You disapprove of us doing things you can't see. You just said that. Fire your publicist then fire yourself.

They can spin it how they want but at the end of the day Paypal is against user privacy.

Could you guys tweet @btc38com about adding a DRK/CNY pair.  Something like: "@btc38com You should add a DRK/CNY pair, huge interest on DRK coming from China you should take the opportunity."

I would do it myself, but I am not on Twitter, and please no Bitcoin Rush on this one, please.
I will do it later, I want my current tweet to showcase for the rest of the afternoon, then I will tweet in time for them to see it in China.

Great, Thanks!
On a serious note, Minotaur, I won't tell you how to run the Darkcoin Ambassador Group, which I'm sure will be a huge sucess,  and I would ask you not to tell me how to run the Darkcoin Twitter PR Initiative, which is and will continue to be a huge success.

I will use Bitcoin Rush if I want to.

We have a deal?

If Darkcoin was a company and I was CEO, I'd fire you on the spot for this post right here and insisting on using the video. The ONLY redeeming part of that video is Evan of course.

If you can't see how awful and uncharismatic the Bitcoin Rush presenter is after being told by pretty much everyone here multiple times, you need to rethink things a bit. I would dismiss Darkcoin so fucking fast if Bitcoin Rush was my first introduction to it. I would close that video way before reaching any essential part.

You seem biased because you were on a Bitcoin Rush episode but you didn't come off much better than the presenter. You don't seem to be in touch with what's cool and what kind of actions and people have reach in marketing.

Your Masternode guide is great (it's a technical thing and maybe more your forte) and the energy you put into what you do is admirable but definitely misplaced. #DarkLove hashtag? that sounds like interracial porn and #Getintothedark isn't very catchy either. You want widespread adoption and yet you fail to realize your own weaknesses and strenghts which would allow you to focus your energy better.

It took 2 secs to think of a catchier hashtag that rolls of the tongue better

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

Whoa...anonymousxx1503... I think that is an excessively harsh and uncalled for rebuttal of Tao's thinking. The Bitcoinrush guy is clearly not everyone's cup of tea but I actually thought the video was pretty good and I appreciate the time and effort the many people involved put into it.

Fortunately you're not the "CEO" as you would have unjustly removed a very hard working member of this team (and demonstrated a fear based culture common to the corporate world that's the very essence of what we're all here trying to move beyond). Tao might not be the world's most sophisticated marketing person but he's put a lot of content out there and brought many new people along to be interested in Darkcoin. His Twitter work and his dedication is admirable; all done off his own bat.

Perhaps you might reconsider your words. It's an open source volunteer community. That means there are going to be many viewpoints on what's appropriate, what's good, what's bad, what we should do and what we shouldn't. Tao's key point on the anniversary/birthday video is that it's created much conversation and much discussion. Yes, there probably will be people that will be turned off and there'll be others that will think it's great (like the many supportive comments in this thread after it first aired). Most product/service/entities make things in their early days which end up having some cringe factor later on; but that's what's so appealing about being involved in the very beginnings of something amazing like Darkcoin.

I realize it's an open source, community driven project and I give a lot of value to the amount of energy invested by everyone. But being decentralized in the marketing efforts makes going against the wishes of the community that much worse. By insisting on using a video (which evidently did take time and effort to create but produced a less desirable result due to the host) when people have expressed negativity about it time and time again, he goes against the wishes of the community. To me it's the equivalent of him mining his own fork instead of putting hashpower towards the main blockchain.

The CEO/firing thing was a bit badly worded, someone who works that hard for my "company" (Darkcoin in this case) would be welcomed but I wouldn't put an engineer in charge of marketing. I'd rather move him to a position where his potential and energy can be fully exploited for the benefit of everyone. I get his enthusiasm about Darkcoin because I feel it too and I can see that he's driven by it but it seems also blinded by it. You can have a better product than a competitor but it's not gonna do you much good if you can't show people in an effective way.

And it's not like I have it out for Tao in particular or anything, it's just a general disdain for bad marketing efforts. It's as if a friend was trying to set you up on a date with a hot girl by showing her your worst pictures even after you tell him to stop using those pics. I even recently made a new twitter logo for him and tweaked it so that he would enjoy the final product more. (He didn't pick my favorite then either but I'm not gonna hold that against him)

Maybe you didn't read my posts. I said that there are some that hate it, and some that like it. But everyone has an opinion.
The funny part about all this to me, is that I have people slamming my efforts, saying I don't know how to be a marketer, when outside of this forum box, I have done nothing but bring new people into Darkcoin.
The Twitter Initiative grows and grows, people love the message.
When someone gets into the Dark, they are joining the community. I've talked to countless people, I'm not failing. There's no need to slam my efforts. If I was failing, I could see it.

PSA

These new walls at 0.012 are because I wouldn't mind accumulating a few more DRK at this price right now, I don't guarantee that they will stay here if and when I decide that I have been sold enough coins for the time being, but if I do move them back down then they will only revert to 0.01111 at the lowest and from there they will neither be lowered nor removed just as stated before, so that still remains the floor, the walls are just doing a little walkabout.

They'll be there for at least eight hours anyway as I'm going afk soon, so feel free to sell in to them anyone who would like to do a little profit taking or what ever and I'll check back tomorrow to review the situation.

LETS ASSUME A WORST CASE SCENARIO

50% of MN's are run by "bad actors" or have backdoors (thru VSP provider consent)

Question:Why did TOR get compromised??
Answer: NSA style traffic analysis

Just like TOR ur crypto (such as it is i.e. antiquated) is prob sound. But how do you combat NSA style traffic analysis for MN's?

Ignore me if you want…
but this is another important question complements of yous truly.

Answers on a postcard  Cool

I'll bite. Assuming there were 50% rogue nodes, each round would be an independent event, in this case 50/50 that a compromised node is selected processing the transaction. To be able to prove with reasonable doubt, you would need to have your rogue nodes selected every round, or 50%^# of rounds for probability. At 4 rounds, you're looking at a 6.25% chance of having your rogue nodes selected every round, at 8 rounds, 0.39%, at 16 rounds, .0015%. That's just as the system stands right now--with masternode blinding which is currently in development, no single node would have all the inputs so your probabilities essentially go to 0.

Good try.

Yeah I think he did try very hard, but his attempt discredits him even more.

@oblox

I suppose I was really making three points:

1) CRYPTO:What happens if 50% of MN's are run by "bad actors" or have backdoors (thru VSP provider consent)

Comment:
The answer of ~6% if 4 rounds chosen was the answer given. Interesting but not really to my point. BTW What is the avg no. of rounds usually selected? What is the default number?

2 ) FLOW: Since MN's have static IP's (at this time) and are obvious targets for traffic flow analysis how can u combat traffic flow analysis like "upstreaming" which were used to compromise TOR?"

As I said initially it is not so much the crypto that is the weakness (albeit slightly outdated imo), but rather the patterns derived from traffic analysis techniques like "upstreaming" which may reveal sensitive information.

Comment:
Certainly every crypto-currency network is also threatened by such analysis, but for DRK it is the limited number of MN's currently sitting on fixed IP's which make a juicy target. The crypto in TOR was by all accounts strong and it was these sorts of attacks which compromised TOR's security iirc. Interestingly there were similar numbers of TOR nodes that you have MN's. I'm thinking maybe 3-4k TOR nodes were being run worldwide.
Perhaps MN's will have to grow in number to help deal with this and maybe a 500DRK sum should be permitted to run an MN so as to create more. In fact why shouldn't every node be capable of serving as an MN? And if DRK adopts a ZK (Zero-Knowledge) solution like Shadow then why have MN's at all (InstantX I guess)

3) BLEND: A "blended attack" where a bad actor runs (or has access to) a number of MN's combined with traffic analysis is most likely the true threat model here. It is unclear to me at this point if "Masternode blinding' might help the bad actors as much as the good ones.

Guys!!

I think it would be brilliant to do a quick flip around DotCom's twitter in a nice non-provocative way. I'm sure he'd LOVE it!

Something like "Darkcoin supports Mega & #KimDotCom"

or better still,

"Lets give #KimDotCom a BOOST ; )"

I totally agree GhostPlayer! I will work on that straight away!

EDIT: Done! Please RT if you're able!

Tao

Oh man !! That was sweet !! I confess I'm not into twitter at all, but do feel its powers. I think this little "play of words", if Kim reads it, will make a huge impact!!

 Well done Tao!!

One very very cool website I used to use in the past (before DRK) is www.preev.com

Anyone know how to get in contact with them to include DRK? Tungfa?
This is a cool site. I'll see what I can do, as well.

I use Preev daily and would love to see DRK being added! Smiley

if you need anything else, dont hesitate Smiley

thx - I'll be playing with the miner(s) on sunday - just trying to get prepared :-D

Any specific questions, I am happy to answer, btw watch out for anti virus programs disabling sgminer in such as way as you don't get work from the pool but it looks like its working! Overclocking might get you 5% more, I left some tips for Tungfa's friend, points 3 to 6 ?

Dash is 27.3 times faster with syncing and updating than Bitcoin and 93.7 times faster than Monero. Bitcoin (v0.11.0) has a Tao ratio 11.2% faster than bitcoin (v0.10.0) release.
Dash (v.0.12.0.49) = Tao sync ratio = 0.15 seconds / hour of update || Dash (v.0.11.2.23) = Tao sync ratio = 0.24 seconds / hour of update. V12 versus V11 speedup = +36.5%
Bitcoin (v.0.11.0) = Tao sync ratio = 4.14 seconds / hour of update || Monero (v.0.41.1)  = Tao sync ratio = 14.2 seconds / hour of update

Now that we're on it... Darkcoin has been around for quite a while, and a lot of poo poo did hit the fan, admittedly, and thankfully. What did not break us made us stronger!!

I think its time to make a infographic that quickly reflects current states of affairs, starting 2015.

 a) would make FUDsters mum's feel shame on their own spawn, and spank them accordingly
 b) bring up to speed to the Kim DotComs, Andreas, Snowden, Assanges, Malala Yousafzai's etc etc etc of today
 c) Spot attention to big industry chiefs like Patrick Byrne
 d) General population sensibilisation.

New age of DRK is slowly going up to a boil. It will take a while until new flashy feats come out to even strengthen the project. So we could start dropping "bombs" with what we have right now.

I would love to do this, but of all I know, the least I am proficient in image creation/editing/photoshop/vectorisation, etc... And I am a PR amateur.

We need to kick off 2015 with a full-on PR/MKT campaign.

I propose child_harold as a poster boy  Grin
