Okay--why is it that an instamine of close to 600 000 coins is being merely shrugged against by most? I have no issue with Dash at all and support it with mining and holding some dash, but I'm finding it difficult to get on board with both the critics and defenders of the instamine.
To me any instamine for a mineable coin is indicative of nefariousness, but with dash/dark/xcoin has innovated so much that it's something that cannot be forgotten, but then also cannot be pushed under the rug. The dev screwed up and a lot of coins should not be in circulation-- it's a fact, totally undeniable that the amount of dash in the world should be less by a few hundred thousand.
Some may point towards the "instamine" of BTC by satoshi as a similar occurrence, and even though BTC was "instamined"(not really, but you know what I mean) for 1 million of the buggers, development and innovation carried on with BTC regardless of Satoshi's stash of a million BTC. The difference is that the amount of BTC held in satoshis address has not moved, whereas all the instamined dash have been used in some fashion.
So to me the defenders cannot call the instamine a non-issue, since as much as you downplay the effects, the fact is you have no idea what the lack of Dash in the crypto-ecosystem could have done for/against dash. Stop assuming it's inconsequential because you cannot say that with 100% certainty, and thinking you can smells of hubris. Admit the fault, qualify the defense with "we know it happened, it sucks and is a black dot on the history of the coin, but look at what Dash is doing now!"
The fact that dash has developed so much in spite of the instamine counts for much and tells me dash is still a coin to watch and mine for the foreseeable future. I just hope we don't get an Otoh pump to throw Dash around again(no offense Otoh, but as a miner the increased interest and Ghs decimated my Dash payouts for weeks). Before anyone thinks I'm just a miner who dumps dash, I am not. I hold all the dash I mine.
No coin is perfect, admitting the faults in its genesis is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of growth.
Wow, the first intelligent criticism I've seen on this forum in about a year, iCEFAKER and AdamShite take note, this is how you do it...

Sure, we've heard that before. Weakness is strength and strength is weakness. Nice Orwellian newspeak.

i really don't understand these pump and dump guys, you can make so much more money just beeing a long time investor. You don't need to be Einstein so see that Dash's market cap will go far beyond bitcoins in a few years.
Some (sometimes?) people don't want to wait for long. They want to feel luck - get quick result - so go to casinos, hypes, betting, day trading, ... It is kind of gambling, doesn't matter what coin they use to gamble. Agree with all this.. I literally cannot be bothered to do anything than try and accumulate DASH, all I do is slowly mine it, I have tried to sell the odd ones here and there to increase my stash overall, usually I get it right but I only do it with pennies, the real stash is just sitting there like you do with any good long term investment, untouched.

One might get the impression that the botched launch is being pushed under the rug by watching the response the trolls are getting. But the reason for that is that the trolling has been going on for over a year now, and anything that possibly could be said about the issue has already been said multiple times. So, everyone already knows (and everyone knows that everyone knows) the launch was a screw up, those that mine at coin launches got lucky, coins were sold for nothing the following weeks, and now we are here. Yet every page another troll comes screaming instamine and some even seem to dedicate their lives to it.

Yet every page another troll comes screaming instamine and some even seem to dedicate their lives to it. Lets be honest about this for a change. All the price appreciation took place before there was any 'tech' to see. The network didn't really come alive until the summer of 2014. There is no way DASH could have got to where it is without the trolls. Thread bump, after thread bump, after thread bump. None of it considered spam by the mods. Darkcoin has been at the top of the alts announcements section for over 12 months. Almost 5,000 pages, of free bumps. That is just a genius marketing contribution by our trolls, all paid for by the 'competition'. I tip my hat off to all the trolls. We couldn't have done it without you.

Sure, we've heard that before. Weakness is strength and strength is weakness. Nice Orwellian newspeak. Lol, growth is not the same as strength, but thanks for the doublespeak. So you honestly expect to convince a community of primarily investors that growth does not equal strength? Of course you would like everyone to believe that, because it supports your argument: You want people to think the instamine took place at a time when Dash was just as "strong" as it is today, but only "smaller." You hope that people look back in time with today's feeling of a "strong" Dash and paint a picture of weakness on it in today's context, which is a complete distraction, and irrelevant since nobody today was harmed then; anyone at that time had the opportunity to buy/sell or take the risk of holding thousands for a fraction of today's price, and you know it. As others have pointed out, the lead developer himself took the biggest risk.

Dash is 27.3 times faster with syncing and updating than Bitcoin and 93.7 times faster than Monero. Bitcoin (v0.11.0) has a Tao ratio 11.2% faster than bitcoin (v0.10.0) release. Dash (v.0.12.0.49) = Tao sync ratio = 0.15 seconds / hour of update || Dash (v.0.11.2.23) = Tao sync ratio = 0.24 seconds / hour of update. V12 versus V11 speedup = +36.5% Bitcoin (v.0.11.0) = Tao sync ratio = 4.14 seconds / hour of update || Monero (v.0.41.1) = Tao sync ratio = 14.2 seconds / hour of update

so who is dump 8k dash to 0.0130 ?
looking at the 1m chart, really only looks like 2k dumped. (one person may of dumped 750 then a few minutes later a dump of 2k) Just looks worse when looking at 15m or so. nice to see Dash moving on its own and not tied to the BTC bump up. Typically you see ratio's slide when btc jumps.
