Just in, margin trading on Polo & two days notice to do KYC info or they'll likely freeze your funds: ... Greetings from Poloniex!
Thanks for the editorial, thats the last nail in the coffin then (btw, I didnt get an email warning about this) Got the email, bbye Polo. How much longer till Bittrex and Cryptsy follow suit. A day? A week? +101 It could be that Polo are trying to expand into fiat areas and securities and got caught needing to do a blanket kyc. Cryptsy have been looking at regulations for a while. They would be next. Bittrex is based in the States, I think, they can probably hang on a bit longer.

A week? It is just me or I found it can open many door to new people too ? I have friend doesn't came trade dash because It won't have margin trading... who's know... now we've got one more investor because of this The trouble with dancing with the devil is that the devil worshipers love to attack you when you least expect it: "PayPal freezes developer account over copyright infringement..." http://www.itproportal.com/2015/05/18/paypal-freezes-developer-account-over-copyright-infringement/Someone makes a bullshit request to PayPal and they seize the funds of a software dev. How long before these emails start being sent to the exchanges?

Thanks for the warning about Poloniex. You couldn't see me for dust. b.t.w. to those who were moaning about Bitfinex not rebranding, they have actually changed the name. It's just the ticker they didn't change but lots of currencies have tickers which are nothing like the name - specially the anons which mostly start with X. The ticker might not have been trivial if they actually used it as a database key (which is a stupid thing to do but lots of people do it).

The wild west is being tamed.
Necessity being the mother of invention - decentralised p2peer exchanges have to happen. And very carefully so that no party is classified as a money transmitter.
Where is shapeshift based? This sort of thing would sort of mess up their whole utility model.

Given that Voorhees is behind it, not in the US, but looking at their domain registrar, it looks like Canada.

I wonder if Polo introduced margin trading to counter the loss of revenue they knew would come from regulations.

So far the UK is a lot more lenient about the taxing of cryptos than the US I recently had a read through this.. https://dashtalk.org/threads/a-tax-attorneys-answers-to-the-most-common-questions-about-the-taxation-of-bitcoins.4885/#post-54245
Margin trading sounds like fun and games but my brain melts trying to imagine the record keeping required to be compliant with the above. And not being compliant looks like it will be quite difficult in the future. Imagine receiving the letter saying you owed taxes for trades done two years ago.. I sold so many shitcoins there when I first got my rig.. so.. so many little trades. The way things are going I imagine in the future trading crypto will be the domain of brokers. Unless people really fight to change the taxation classification to currency.

Withdrawal confirmation emails have become quite slow at Polo. I imagine they are busy. Last one out, turn out the lights. Oh - the trollbox chatter is pretty lively there now, as you might imagine.
