What is the whale doing? Stolen funds or just someone moving about a lot?
Most likely stolen. Just check out the behavior. Always moving the stash to a new address and slowly draining to exchanges and fresh addresses. It looks scripted to run 24/7.
Here is where funds are currently parked:
https://chainz.cryptoid.info/drk/address.dws?XpE6Yfhd3detzyRpL7YQiGBjRLzHBhrKKY.htm
So now you can follow along until he wises up and Darksends them. Smiley

i was just tracking this and came here to post but it looks like everyone is already on top of it.
looks like the mintpal/moolah/mintgox bot has dumped 70k drk on various exchanges in this last week. i tracked it back to an address on 2014-10-07 with 353,787.01000031
https://chainz.cryptoid.info/drk/tx.dws?595614.htm

you can follow the path down to 286,718.03994322  here...
https://chainz.cryptoid.info/drk/address.dws?512845.htm

if you follow it you can see the 70k drk being sent to other exchanges this last week.

looks like they knew they f'ed up a week ago and have been liquidating. criminal?

In regards to Moolah, I withdrew everything the second they brought withdrawals back up. The way they handled that kind of put me off a little, had a feeling something wasn't right. I'm guessing a lot of other people felt the same way considering their trade volume has been next to non-existent since V2 launched. If anyone has funds left there get on them and don't let up until you get your coins back, whatever the 'critical security flaw' is. I've lost coins because of horribly-managed exchanges and it fucking sucks.

Also the guy who runs it doesn't appear to the nicest most customer-oriented guy ever, considering he was threatening to sue people asking about audits of the exchange. Idk....

The fact that there are tracks means one of two things.

1. They are fucking stupid. This is Darkcoin, with that new open source feature called Darksend.

or,

2. We need to do some better marketing  Tongue

They were obviously time bound and needed to liquidate their DRK as quickly as possible - you can see by how cheap they were willing to dump.

At this stage it would take a long time to anonymize 260k+ DRK as there arent that many people denominating on mainnet yet.

Thanks for tracking this! I was starting to go back in the blockchain but you saved me some time. Looks pretty suspicious, doesn't it? And the liquidation is ongoing. This explains why DRK isn't following the other top altcoins. Folks, this is our MintGOX moment! The DRK price will probably tank some more before recovering. Get thee to Coinbase! Smiley

I think i will setup a masternode and just forget it,sell the rest i have @ my buy in point price, and never buy more.
My logic says when there are new Gpu's on the market with 20nm technology from AMD and Nvidia we might see a improvement in mining and more coins on the market(if there are FPGA miners or Asics i dont know). But without the miners willing to mine Darkcoin this coin is dead, the price must go up for them for them to make any money, thats why most of them are mining anyway to make money. Here lies the difficult point,if Darkcoin rises to $10 or more it will take a lot of money to buy the masternode's we need for the network,we might never reach the amount of masternode's with that price. Undecided

I think you've all got the wrong end of the stick.

People have become obsessed with the DRK/BTC ratio when in fact it's Bitcoin value against the dollar that's going to make or break this entire industry. What's the point of DRK going to 4 times its DRK/BTC ratio if Bitcoin's USD marketcap collapses to a quarter ?

We are not independent of Bitcoin. Dark IS Bitcoin - just another flavour of it and without BTC, we ain't goin nowhere.

At the start of this year I'd have had a much more open mind about this. It wasn't at all clear if Bitcoin was going to survive the barrage of competition it was starting to face from Alts. Litecoin was expected by many to go to a quarter to a third of Bitcoin's price (parity in marketcap terms). Alt coins (including DRK) were seen as competing currencies, not complimentary.

As it happened, things turned out a whole lot differently and even I was amazed.

Despite all kinds of advanced tech and every type of alternative thought out monetary policy being thrown at it, no coin even made a dent in Bitcoin's marketcap. I suspect we've now reached game over stage in terms of looking for a competitor. Bitcoin is too far down the line in terms of infrastructure, retail adoption, legislative support financial services support and other "network effect" aspects.

We need to now see ourselves as complimentary rather then competitive and ride the Bitcoin wave. Bitcoin's marketcap is our marketcap - according to the DRK / BTC ratio. Right now 0.005 may not seem much, but if Bitcoin hits even $10.000 (which it must do to satisfy projected liquidity requirements if it's going anywhere other than history) then a 0.005 BTC ratio for a 5 million coin supply corresponds to a dollar cap of a cool half a billion. ($500,000,000).

Put another way, a single masternode holding would be worth around $55,000. In that case, a DRK / BTC ratio change of a mere 0.0001 (say from 0.005 to 0.0051) would amount to a thousand dollar gain.

We've got to stop naval gazing and see the big picture: either Bitcoin's going somewhere or it isn't. If you decide it isn't then fair enough - but don't think any other alt is either. If you decide that it is then hang onto your DRK for dear life cos the ride's going to get wild once we hit the next big wave.

Very impressive post.  I agree 100%.

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

2. We need to do better marketing anyway Tongue

Never spent fiat for coin before, but want to now. Is my best bet localbitcoins? Am willing to link up bank accounts but would prefer not. Would still prefer linking up bank account to paying 20% premium. Anyway I can load up an account with a prepurcahsed card? Or should I just go ahead and get verified somewhere?

is the dump over? since they just announced bankruptcy it would definitely be criminal for them to keep dumping. they may have already broken some laws.

what does an unverified account at Cryptsy mean exactly ? can you still trade and withdraw ? i dont really feel like uploading official paperwork (ID, photo)
just to get verified....

You should read these reddit posts before moving any coin to Cryptsy: http://www.reddit.com/search?q=cryptsy

Do you see the problem now for Darkcoin?Realy shit exchange's for Darkcoin,it does not help us.

Evan do something about this!! Sad

yeaH I only used cryptsy once and I hate them...I use bittrex for DRK  Wink

Here is a list of current DRK exchanges: http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/darkcoin/#markets

I know dude, look at the daily volume on the rest, completly shit=big problem.

not if we start moving from Cryptsy to the other exchanges (like bittrex)

Go back to where DRK began.  Poloniex is a great exchange.

But do not go all the way back to where DRK began. That would be C-CEX. Not a great exchange.

That sucks, dude. Sorry.

Cheers - but I'm not too worried about it. The whole lot amounted to less than 1 Btc of value.

Thanks to aunt tante beating me over the head enough times about leaving funds on exchanges I had moved around 1200 DRK off there and into a cold wallet a few weeks before.

b.t.w. it looks like Mintpal might survive. Apparently it wasn't owned by Moolah, just managed by them and a new company is taking over at which point people will be able to withdraw funds until 30th Oct (according to statement).

Hard to believe anything that comes from Moolah, afterall, V2 was suppose to be released on X date and suppose to be better than all other exchanges.

I know it's not just me, but I haven't been able to darksend a single coin with RC5. I've tried every setting and amount possible. It's supposed to be fixed with the next release but still, it's not working for most people it seems. So people with 10k+ DRK can definitely forget about using it to anonymize anything.

You are the first person I have seen post on these forums that Darksend(RC5 or later) doesn't work. Hell, it was even working for camo last time I checked. If you are have some specific issue then please post it on DTC (or even here) as I guess that someone knows how to solve it. It not, then at least Evan knows what he needs to fix.  If you report nothing then Evan has no chance at fixing it.

I will say that it is a known bug that a small number of coins <10 will not Darksend (fixed in the latest release on testnet).
