90% return!?!? Are you jocking ? Nothing should be given to this fuck face. He made a damage of hunderds of milions. Eth yesterday 20$+ and today 13$ and falling, that is close to 500 milions lost in a day, not counting the DAO. All togehther probably a billion $. And if he returns everything the damage has been done. Who knows when and if it will be back to normal.
The guy/team that did this has to be identified and tracked down like an animal. And then punished....

Vitalik and company should make a hard fork. ETH and theDAO are great projects that can change history, but they have to be more carefull, after all this is not a game anymore, billions of $ are not to be played with.

[ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the End

This is getting boring...
We are still at the beginning, better hold on to your eth, if not you will be sorry. The price is down becouse of people started to panic, nothing is wrong with eth, the dao is the one that got ,,hacked,, . And even if they dont fork it it is only 1.5% of total eth supply that will come to market at some point.

if he gets 10% price will raise again, because he can't dump that much. But he will be still rich. Just accept, that he won, we can't help anyway. If we hard fork, ETH is fucked as well...

Read some articles, is the DAO shutting down? That too, so early.

Read a post, where it said that the hacker can sue if he is not allowed to withdraw his ETH. Is this true?

I think there are two options : 1. Hard fork which leads to l lose trust to ether because every time another hard fork can be happen 2. Let the attacker to have ethers. Which then i will be proud to be a part of this community which holds the rules that made from. But a huge dump will occur by the attacker ... so i choose to sell 50℅ and hold 50%
Anyway this is my opinion and I am a newbie to ethereum so forgive me if i am wrong

To the DAO and the Ethereum community,

I have carefully examined the code of The DAO and decided to participate after finding the feature where splitting is rewarded with additional ether. I have made use of this feature and have rightfully claimed 3,641,694 ether, and would like to thank the DAO for this reward. It is my understanding that the DAO code contains this feature to promote decentralization and encourage the creation of "child DAOs".

I am disappointed by those who are characterizing the use of this intentional feature as "theft". I am making use of this explicitly coded feature as per the smart contract terms and my law firm has advised me that my action is fully compliant with United States criminal and tort law. For reference please review the terms of the DAO:

"The terms of The DAO Creation are set forth in the smart contract code existing on the Ethereum blockchain at 0xbb9bc244d798123fde783fcc1c72d3bb8c189413. Nothing in this explanation of terms or in any other document or communication may modify or add any additional obligations or guarantees beyond those set forth in The DAO’s code. Any and all explanatory terms or descriptions are merely offered for educational purposes and do not supercede or modify the express terms of The DAO’s code set forth on the blockchain; to the extent you believe there to be any conflict or discrepancy between the descriptions offered here and the functionality of The DAO’s code at 0xbb9bc244d798123fde783fcc1c72d3bb8c189413, The DAO’s code controls and sets forth all terms of The DAO Creation."

A soft or hard fork would amount to seizure of my legitimate and rightful ether, claimed legally through the terms of a smart contract. Such fork would permanently and irrevocably ruin all confidence in not only Ethereum but also the in the field of smart contracts and blockchain technology. Many large Ethereum holders will dump their ether, and developers, researchers, and companies will leave Ethereum. Make no mistake: any fork, soft or hard, will further damage Ethereum and destroy its reputation and appeal.

I reserve all rights to take any and all legal action against any accomplices of illegitimate theft, freezing, or seizure of my legitimate ether, and am actively working with my law firm. Those accomplices will be receiving Cease and Desist notices in the mail shortly.

I hope this event becomes an valuable learning experience for the Ethereum community and wish you all the best of luck.

Yours truly,
"The Attacker"

If this guy is legit " The attacker"  I say fork him!

With this little shenanigan, albeit possibly within the terms of the code" what he has done is rapidly devaluing ether. At this rate he wont have much to sue over  Grin

He is guilty of exploitation and should return all ether, and let the code be fixed or edited to avoid this in the future.

i liked......

and what about this report?
someone knew it beforhand?
http://forklog.net/the-dao-will-give-birth-to-the-companies-that-otherwise-wouldnt-have-existed-interview-with-founder-of-slock-it/

The project, initiated by Slock.it, a startup producing smart locks, has got more than 12 million Ethers, which is worth of almost $165 million.
Thus, The DAO has made the most successful campaign in the history of crowdfunding, leaving behind other famous blockchain projects, such as Ethereum (which actually underlies The DAO) and decentralized kickstarter Waves.
However, over the course of the crowdsale’s final days, one of the Curators, Vlad Zamfir, being also one of the Ethereum developers, along with Cornell professor Emin Gün Sirer and Smartwallet founder Dino Mark released a report reviewing possible attacks on The DAO. This launched discussions within the community,  and eventually resulted in a call for temporary moratorium on the DAO proposals.

Crowd mentality changes slowly, and price patterns recur, albeit with variations. Emotional swings provide trading opportunities, while efficient markets chop up and down, offering no edge to traders, only piling up their costs. Technical analysis tools will work for you only if you have the discipline to wait for patterns to emerge. Professionals trade only when markets offer them special advantages.

Under no circumstances does it make sense to allow the hacker to keep the money he stole.  A legitimate enterprise would go after the money and the thief.  Investors would like to know that every time a thief robs this bank, the bank is going to protect the investors.  Allowing a thief to keep his bounty encourages new thieves and gives the impression investors have no protection.

As an ex-banker I can promise you that if a hacker breaks into a banking system and wires money out of the bank to himself through another bank, the bank that was robbed will make every attempt to recall the money that was stolen.  The central banks and other banks will cooperate to make sure the money is returned.  That instills confidence in the banking system.  If the only way to fix this and get the money back is a hard fork then the hard fork is the answer along with fixing the vulnerability that allowed the money to be stolen in the first place.  I am not a voting member but I have an investment in ETH and I do not want to see the value of my investment destroyed because a hacker who stole ETH dumps them on the market with little concern for the market price.
