If these developers can figure out a way to seamlessly integrate this coin into the framework of Smart Grid technology, well, it doesn't take much to see that the future of this coin could be explosive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_grid

Solarcoin (§ SLR) are like airmiles. Each 1 Mhw generated gets you §1 free. Solarcoins can purchase what others will trade: USD,BTC, Soy candles..etc.

Folks mentioning something is different with this coin. I agree, it is different! It differentiates itself by having a great idea, a smart and dedicated team behind it, a long term business plan and future thinking model. Other coin creators try to remind us to think long term but then struggle to explain how and what they will do to differentiate themselves from the flood of other coins. With SolarCoin there actually is a new idea backed by a long term plan, dare I say vision, that is being executed upon methodically and with forethought. This is not a rush job. Don't worry if things aren't happening as fast as with other coins. That is a good thing.
Something else that is different. Have you noticed that SolarCoin is actually being discussed (gasp) outside of bitcointalk forums! Weird right? A website and wiki with actual information; articles, twitter activity, and hey even sane discussion happening over on cryptocointalk forums? And I think it won't be long before more mainstream media includes solarcoin in their coverage of bitcoin and it's descendents. It's got a good story behind it.
So yes, this coin is different. IMO it's being done the RIGHT way for once! That's why I am 100% behind it.
btw i guess others agree; the network hashrate has been climbing slowly but steadily. Maybe word is spreading.
p.s.
I saw some comments about giveaways and bounties. Nick has already mentioned they do not want start to distribute any SLR from the genesis pool until the charter is in place and more importantly there is a agreed upon procedure to follow. How refreshing! For once, we will know what the devs are doing with their stash. Open and transparent. How different!

+1 The fact that it's "centralized" will mean absolutely nothing to A. anyone who is currently outside the crypto community and B. anyone else five years from now.

I put up a Block Explorer here: http://solarcoin.zapto.org/It is built using the bitcoin-abe open source block explorer. If I get some time I'll try to improve the look and feel. It's running on an Amazon AWS spot instance. Spot instances can occasionally be terminated without notice but I expect it will be online most of the time. I'm willing to keep it up and running until somebody builds a better one or finds a more permanent home for this one.

I'm willing to keep it up and running until somebody builds a better one or finds a more permanent home for this one. I've made some configuration changes to improve performance. Note that I am allowing a large recordset to be returned without throwing an error. There are a few addresses with lots of transactions. That means, if you load those addresses it will take a while but eventually return the results.

It could conceivably take a year or two, but this could be the sleeper coin of 2014.
