Yes, Yes. Actually, it is an underlying problem, like IQ vs. EQ right. The smart brain only can't make your success in this life. You have to master the skill of communication and marketing. College in my opinion is now a service industry.
You spend so much money (in most cases obtain a shitload of debt) to go to college and get a piece of paper that says you can do something.
Then you go out in the workforce and cannot find a job in the field you just went in to debt to learn...
Right now it seems that trade industries/jobs are the way to go - make a great salary without needing a college degree...
I see so many people with degrees that do a sub-par job, yet I see people that do not have degrees excel in the same roles.

Actually, there are many individuals who didn't even have a chance to get in to college but are now successful.

I believe that higher education is very useful for anyone, for a variety of reasons:

- you learn more things
- the higher the education is (Bachelor, Master, Ph. D.), the greater your specialization gets
- you have more chances for a good job
- you'll have more respect from others

Excepting all these, having a higher education now is way easier than before. In Romania, at least, after private universities appeared, only those which didn't want a bachelor diploma didn't get one. In the past, only state universities were here (meaning they were created by the govern) and it was very hard to be accepted. At some of them (Computer Science or Medicine) there used to be even 50 candidates for a single spot. But after private universities appeared, it was more simple. All you had to do was to pay the admission tax and you were accepted. No admission exam was needed. Professors were also accepting the students which were missing their classes, thus you only had to be present at your exams. Where you could cheat, of course, by copying from a colleague and voila the exam was passed.

Such things weren't possible at state universities, where teachers were very strict. As a consequence, having a bachelor or master diploma in Romania doesn't mean anymore that the respective student is actually a very smart person, as anyone can obtain such a diploma. In the past, the bachelors, masters or Ph. D.s graduated from state universities were certainly very intelligent people, as very few were accepted and even fewer were passing the exams and also fewer passed the diploma exam. But now, having such a degree is for any average person, as you only need to have the desire of such a degree and to pay for it.

Practically, there are so many bachelors and masters in Romania, that you'd think this country is full with genius people, but they are only average ones which paid to be accepted, copied during exams and obtained their diplomas. As a consequence, those having only the high school diploma are no way less intelligent, but those with higher education get the good jobs for having such papers.

I don't know the situation in other countries, how hard or easy is to have a higher education, but I certainly advise everyone to go as far as possible with schooling.

Not having had the funds nor the opportunity to get a higher education, I would absolutely have loved to have been able to. That said, my career has been a good one, but was never what I "wanted to be when I grew up". For that I would definitely have needed the paper backup that a proper post secondary education brings. I wonder what kind of "trading" he is talking about— Cryptocurrency trading or General trading? Where I'm from, children are normally taught different kinds of trades by those they serve as apprentice. Once they serve their masters for certain period of time, they are rewarded with new businesses or/and with money. Lots of the kids end up doing really well in their trading careers.
I think this should be balance though. They can combine basic formal education with the apprenticeship. You teach them basic things in life like reading/writing, religion, basic maths, civic, health education etc

Yes, we still need degree these days, as this still are one of the stable ways to get into a job easily. Pursuing your career of choice with the help of higher education can make it to reality, while without it, you must have a vast knowledge regarding that career that will make you noticeable among the others who hold the degrees.

There are different kinds of jobs, and different kinds of knowledge needed to make it work. A great example would be engineering, as there are many branches in engineering, you cant be called an engineer without passing the board. I lived in a place where those who didn't attain the higher education in established schools tend to do better than those  with higher education in established schools.  They are talented businessmen, and do go as far as making things like car parts, shoes, cars,  etc.

The typical established schools are not very good at training people to use their natural gifts or talents properly. Being able to support yourself and a family through Life starts with very early on finding out what you are good at and have natural talent for:
  Are you good with making things with your hands?

Knowing that then leads to the question of how to learn what is needed to become very good at it. For some people, perhaps the best they can do is become a drone factory worker, if that is the case then High School is probably all they need.

I've been out of college since my sophomore year. But I think college is important. Most of us at the age of entering college, we hardly have too much experience to have a clear purpose for ourselves. If you work hard and are self-taught, then college shouldn't be a problem.

It is important for everyone to have their college finish.

But it won't be the basis of everyone's success but having such will have you a great foundation so whenever you go and whatever path you go, you already have a lead and greater foundation unlike the others.

I think that a higher education gives us the chance to easier switch jobs. It gives an indication to our future employer that we are willing to put in the hours and learn something. Sure, it is important, but I cannot understand why it needs to be so expensive.
I mean, I get why it's important - to get a good education. But it makes me so sad that so many children cannot afford to go to a public college. Yes, there are scholarships and loans, but these still have to be paid back.

There are so many kids who don't even finish high school because they have to work to help support their families. And I just cannot believe that the government would allow so many kids to go without a quality education and then hold it against them.
