Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

The best pool is ublock, and you can ask ziiip for an invitation. I've been mining there and is legit without any botnet or something like that.

Riecoin had some serious price surge in the last days. Can somebody evaluate where this is originating from? Any big news? Where is this sudden pump that drove RIC almost 150% up coming from?

Sincerely am highly disappointed in Reicoin because I expect the coin to have gone 10X because of the hipe behind this project. I think most of the over hiped project do fail in market because of too much hipe. For me I felt this coin should worth $1 instead of the 20cents. I hope for big announcement about Reicoin

I can agree here, too much hype is not good for a projects trading price in most of the cases, look at electroneum or bancor, on the other hand there are also examples that contradict this theory like we could recently observe with quantstamp. But for Riecoin, I wouldnt complain with a price surge of 120%, thats huge already to be frank.

Dito, cant understand how people can complain about a price rise of 120%. I guess everybody that was in before that should be really happy now instead of complaining!

I like this coin but the project seems dead... Website and wallet never have been updated since years. Sub Reddit is dead as well, filled with unrelated ads (account hacked?), Facebook dead since 2014, virtually nothing on Twitter (recently just a tweet of a Forbes article containing a mere mention of Riecoin and to inform that Poloniex fixed their Riecoin wallet)
They could at least upgrade the wallet so it integrates the latest Xptminer for efficient solo mining, and syncs automatically without having to add manually nodes.
There is no reason for hype, I think that this is just usual Pump & Dump and expect that this coin will return again to 600-1000 satoshies range, especially if Bitcoin continues to rise.

Unless if this changes, $1 or 10000 satoshies is just impossible now, and this project was never meant to be profitable.
I actually like this project with the concept of mining math and not useless hashes, and that CPUs can be used. This project deserves more interest, even more than clones like Bitcoin Cash or coins like Dogecoin.
But devs, please do some work to update your software and social media, and to promote the project so more people will join and help beating new records of prime sextuplets!
This has so much potential

I don't understand how them mining process works, i know is Proof of Work based but couldn't find out what is the difference between this coin and BTC? Can anyone explain in simple words?

With very simple words:
BTC: mine bitcoins by searching for hashes that begins with enough zeroes. More difficulty => hash must begin with more zeroes (be smaller). This is essentially a pure lottery because hashes generated are random, with odd of winning being smaller as difficulty rises
RIC: mine riecoins by searching for a number p, such that p is prime, and p+4, p+6, p+10, p+12, p+16 too (p is then the first prime of a prime sextuplet). p must also have a size that corresponds to the current difficulty (not too small and not too big), so more miners => more difficulty => greater prime sextuplets
We don't know if there are infinite prime sextuplets so if the difficulty ever becomes so high that nobody can find blocks anymore, then we could suppose that there is actually a finite number of prime sextuplets (very hypothetical example, I know, but hope that it helps to understand why the project could be useful)

Thanks for nodes it worked.  Downloading blockchain now Smiley As i can see wallet is old 3 years and there is no new development. Why price is rising now?

Thanks fro nodes it worked.  Downloading blockchain now Smiley As i can see wallet is old 3 years and there is no new development. Why price is rising now?

Sometimes, someone from nowhere buys for no real reason a huge amount of riecoins, and because there is no much volume, buying relatively small amount of Riecoin can easily increase very much the price (or decrease if selling instead of buying). Or maybe it is market manipulation...

If someones sells just for 100 BTC of Riecoin now, the price would crash to 1100 satoshies (-55%), and if someones buy for 50 BTC of Riecoin now, he would increase the price to 4000 satoshies (+65%).
Do the same with say ETH and the price will just change like +/- 2%...

I have even seen sometimes that even just 5 BTC would have crashed or increased the price of at least 50%, because this market is so little

So tldr: there is absolutely no reason for price increase now

Very interesting explanation, why there is no reason for the price rise. Its crazy how easy it still is to manipulate prices in crypto. I hope that 2018 we will reach a big enough market that it wont be that easy anymore on smaller coins.

There is a torrent of the chainstate to block 760089 if anyone doesn't feel like waiting for the sync

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:4589cf1314c6f985c15e6703c7e42ff8248e82a1

Riecoin halvening is coming up soon, i would expect a price rise before or after halvening

Also for those of you complaining about an old wallet. The dev is still around but this is a non-profit project aimed at finding interesting prime number constellations.

The Riecoin project doesn't get any funding other than donations. Please have some respect for the project as it has generated some interesting data for the scientific community over the years.
cheers
