Any specific reason it went from being more or less dead to starting to go up? Is RIC coming back to life?

Several nodes have been ddos attacked in the past. If you're just trying to help out the network by running a node you need to be well versed in defending against these attacks. If you're just trying to use a wallet I would recommend using connect= parameters to ensure that your node is only connecting to nodes that you trust and that your client is not listening for incoming connections.

I've been running a node on a DDoS-protected VPS from buyvm.net.  It's been very stable for several months and was easy to set up.

I also have one on a DDoS-protected VPN from PureVPN.  It was harder to setup and is less stable - I don't recommend this route any more.

I suspect OVH.com's DDoS-protected VPSes are also a good way to go, but I haven't tested one.  I've used their service in the past, though, and they were great and had a good price.

Block #693072 is a new world record!!  Shocked  732 digits @2432 difficulty.

Thanks to the RIC community for keeping the network running smoothly  Cool

And another one - Block #705168 from a few hours ago is 745 digits @ 2473 difficulty.  Nice!

Ahem...

745 is definitely the largest 6-tuplet ever found by the Riecoin system and may qualify for the term  record,
but the World Record is still the 1037 digits 6-tuplet found by Norman Luhn in March 2016.
(and will probably be so for a long time)

http://anthony.d.forbes.googlepages.com/ktuplets.htm

But it is really good to see ordinary difficulties in the 1700s again, brings back memories from May 2014!

You're right, of course.  Record Riecoin block. Smiley

And, further credit to Norman Luhn, his were verified primes, whereas the Riecoin blocks are likely primes until proven.

For the record, I tested the 745 digits candidate 1401767259 . . . 99497551 and it's 5 siblings using Primo, and they all came out with flying colors.

Routine maintenance by the poloniex team I guess.
They does that once in a while for all coins to do some inside trading.

Solo mining would be quite difficult currently as the difficulty is near all time highs.

We have just re-opened uBlock.it as a private botnet free pool. pm me your email for an invite.

Also here's a link to the current miner for windows

Compiled from Dave Anderson's miner.
