How do you think the price will rise to at least $5?
As it was with XPM

Since the methods of distribution are different, it's not fair to compare the price per coin of Riecoin to anything except maybe Litecoin, which I believe has the same distribution properties, except it has a multi-year head start and so has more coins circulating.

A better comparison is the market cap between the two coins, and currently Riecoin sits at being 28x less valued than Primecoin.  Since they are the only two coins to provide unique utility to the scientific community through their proof-of-work mechanism, but Primecoin has a first-to-market advantage, my personal opinion is Riecoin should eventually be valued at 1/2-2/3rds as much as Primecoin, making the market cap at least $3.75 Million.  With the current amount of coins in circulation, that would value each coin at $7.42 each with BTC's current value of ~$580.

Of course this is my overly optimistic opinion, and you should form your own conclusions about the real value of any coin before investing.

Be sure to vote for Riecoin!  This poll decides which coin gets added to atomic-trade.com next.

I don't think its a good idea to go for small exchanges. We already have 2 or 3. Mintpal, Poloniex, and soontobe Austin Global Ex. Lets concentrate on vendors accepting Riecoin as payment since it is after all a currency, not a stock, so more merchants = more value to Riecoin. We should only focus on dominating 3 exchanges, Cryptsy (for U.S), Vircurex or Btc-e(unlikely since they never add anything) for Europe, and Bter for China.

YPOOL seems to be an easy target for attacks and has become very unstable. It's time to begin work on an open source pool for Riecoin.

don't listen to people that tell you to do less. There is no problem witch Riecoin trading everywhere you can possibly think of. Do more for the coin - not less - do it in your own way.

The only "benefit" I can think of is when the difficulty retargets it may go a little lower since the DDoS wastes the hashrate of the pool for a brief time, lowering the average block time in that period.

The only "benefit" I can think of is when the difficulty retargets it may go a little lower since the DDoS wastes the hashrate of the pool for a brief time, lowering the average block time in that period.

Also, it benefits any other coin by killing off weak competition. Not gonna lie, this one's looking pretty weak right now. I'm getting a little worried about holding it honestly.

No interest, no marketing, no news, no pools, not easy to mine. . .there's really not a lot of hooks into this right now other than having an awesome PoW concept.

And don't go and quote me the idiotically large buy order on Poloniex. Check out the depth below it, like 2000 coins will take this turd-train back to sub .0003 levels. One, maybe two people with about 18 bitcoins are interested in this coin and that's about it.

Someone reassure me!

Financial gain could be a motive when it cost less to carryout the attack than the cost of mining. Less competition gives the attacker more time to solve a block.

I agree. Seeing RIC in as many places as possible increases exposure and attention - I think it should all be welcomed. Even if someone lists it on a crap exchange where people lose everything to a scam - that reflects badly on the exchange not the coins listed. And there would be no way to stop them anyways, any discouragement just makes the Riecoin community look unwelcoming.

That said, if you're looking to help out the coin time is better spent asking the big exchanges.

The only potential negative I could see would be at the big exchanges. If RIC is trading decent volumes between several small exchanges, there might be less incentive for them to accept RIC. They look at the quality of a coin definitely, but they also must consider how much of a market share they'll get.

Are you missing where it's .001 right now? Why wouldn't I sell to that guy?

Also, how did this coin go up 100% yesterday, and like zero people are throwing up support in the main thread?

There is also a forum here just on Riecoin:
riecointalk.com

Also, the price started going up when RIC got onto coin market caps 2 days ago. Web traffic shows many more people know about RIC now thanks to coinmarketcaps.
