Another VAR nonsense in Premier League. How this handball from Spurs is not a penalty after checking? I am pro VAR in general, but what they are doing in England is total travesty.

I am pro VAR as well, there will be many good decisions but they do it all wrong in the premier league... There must be a clear error something a ref should have seen before he can be over ruled.... Also sometimes when they are catching the mm work of where the foot or the knee or whatever is positioned then it probably also would be arguable if thats the exact moment the ball is kicked by the player sending the pass.....
Then again what would be the best solution thats fair and not arguable for everyone??

Just remove VAR and keep the beautiful game pure. IMHO.  It was already a damn good game without the human factor removed.  Why spoil such a good thing?

Here is an example from somewhere in Africa, maybe FA should learn from technically superior setups

Surely EPL officials also watch this and implement system like this with pump action  Grin

Went with 3-0 on the Liverpool game and it's currently 2-0 with about ten mins to go (including probable injury time). Was debating whether to change it to 2-0 before kick off but hoping Liverpool can get another for the three points for both of us. Edit: Game just finished 2-0  Roll Eyes Tokeweed with another correct score and just beats out micro for this weeks yellow cap.

Maybe he's belongs to the crack squad of football snipers who's firing all those shots at these divers:

No Premier League games this weekend because of the FA Cup. Liverpool/Everton derby is probably the only game worth a watch on Saturday. Then there's the Man City/United one on Tuesday as well.

Funny but it was more effective than the VAR ruining the fun/goal celebrations associated with the premier league. Actually the referee gave the penalty he initially missed and everyone was fine with the decision. Off course the guy with the shotgun played a viral role lol. We (Africa) will get there someday for now we're just enjoying what we gat and hopefully the future will be better.

Back on topic: I was just too offset to come drop my view after the disappointing game we had against Brighton on the 1st. Imagine struggling to maintain a draw in a game you went up with one goal advantage in just 10 minutes and had 80 more minutes plus additional times to double your lead but no we allowed Brighton to get something out of the match and if not for Tottenham and Manchester United poor performance, our advantage would had been reduced to just 3 and 2 points respectively. (speaking of the top 4 spot).

Lampard should try his best to get a world class striker to compliment (assist) Abraham since the transfer window is open and our ban has already been lifted. Without this the second half of the season would be disastrous. This inconsistency needs to stop, imagine winning against Arsenal (at their home) and almost losing to Brighton the very next game. That's just poor.

<snip>

I guess I didn't do too bad this week relatively speaking. Surprised Arsenal comfortably beat Man United but United are playing so inconsistent lately I guess you can't expect anything from them. Only 20% of us backed the home win and surprisingly 54% went for the United win.  I didn't think there was much between either team and they would probably cancel each other out hence why I went for the draw again.
In this round I really did not get what I was expected. In few matches I was close and hanging on in between win and draw, in few matches I was close to get correct scores but could not get any. Year 2020 turns out to be bad for me in terms of gambling and also predicting. I hope I will be back in the next round with better scores.

Quote
Anyone expecting anything other than a comfortable win from Liverpool tonight?
Ended with 2 - 0 and I was in doubt to pick 2 - 0 or 3 - 0 but picked 3 - 0 and we know the rest.

Welcome to the club  Grin.

Surely you can take some comfort in that world class scissor kick that Brighton scored?  Grin It really was perfect: https://youtu.be/TCNqYnAaZYw?t=117

You can't even be mad when those sorts of goals are scored. I remember when Sweden - or should I say Zlatan - drubbed England and Zlatan scored one of the greatest goals ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzvQCbdAIZQ

I was sat there thinking flabbergasted thinking fair play.

17.5 points is what you need to beat to grab a prize-winning place so still something to play for for those who are looking likely to finish outside of the top 5 overall.

Lols on the pic from Africa. I have had the pleasure of playing football in East Africa... pitches are rock hard and players are tough as nails, probably not the wisest to play the most physical games of my life there, at a time when I was well below my "peak". Lovely memories and that almost beats the one from Indonesia (my neck of the woods) where a player asked a ref to look at a mobile phone replay (it didn't work ahaha).

But yeah, funny or not, that pitchside review is how it should go, at least the crowd knows what's going on unlike now.

Nice yellow cap tokeweed. Meanwhile, I've made my way up to 17th place, and cut the gap to top spot from 29.5 points to 27.5.

Progress. Fortitude. False hopes. =p

Oh, I had no idea that I'm one of players with highest score  in single round. After terrible December it will be so difficult to reach top 5, so it would be nice to get consolation prize.

No EPL games this weekend and FA Cup games doesn't looks very interesting, except Wolves - MU, but I might turn on one of games with lower league teams playing to feel atmosphere of less fancy, classic English football.

Here are the current top five yellow caps for those interested:

Well I celebrated the goal (was worth the celebration) irrespective of it been against my club, it was an awesome one and came, will I said, at the right moment because it give the Brighton fans and players relief & hope that they could probably win the game and if not for two brilliant saves from Kepa, that would had been the case.

About the yellow cap stuff and prize, i thought those that'll recieve reward will be based on who gets the highest yellow caps after conclusion of the tournament? I have won the cap like twice or so although performing badly on the pool, I was hopefully on a consolation there 😭 that's disappointing. So it'll be all about the points and not the number of times you won the yellow cap

Well I get this experience week in week out, on each of our training (exercising) games. Kinda used to it though and most home made African players or players who participants in Africa tournaments are used to or getting used to it, that's why physicality is one of the attribute of an African player. (When life gives you lemon, you make lemonade lol).

Lols on the pic from Africa. I have had the pleasure of playing football in East Africa... pitches are rock hard and players are tough as nails

Did you not ever play Sunday league as a kid in the UK? Both the pitches and balls were the hardest thing known to man  Cheesy. It wasn't the reckless horror tackles that you needed to worry about but breaking your bones from hitting the frozen cold winter ground on the way down Grin. I remember some of the balls we played with also being rock solid that a fair few times the top of my foot would be bruised from kicking them. Good times but I don't exactly miss playing at 11 AM in the morning in the freezing cold rain on pitches that were either too frozen or too muddy to be played on.

No EPL games this weekend and FA Cup games doesn't looks very interesting, except Wolves - MU, but I might turn on one of games with lower league teams playing to feel atmosphere of less fancy, classic English football.

There's the mersyside derby tomorrow which is on TV on the BBC so I'll watch that, but you're right that it's mostly dull fixtures today. I won't be bothering with any of them so I might take the time to catch up on one or two films I missed from last year instead.

About the yellow cap stuff and prize, i thought those that'll recieve reward will be based on who gets the highest yellow caps after conclusion of the tournament? I have won the cap like twice or so although performing badly on the pool, I was hopefully on a consolation there 😭 that's disappointing. Yes. If we were to do it the other way then one of the top 5 are more likely to also win it since it would reward consistently high scorers which are what the main prizes are for anyway. I did it just for the highest points from a round so even on the last day of games somebody still has a chance of winning something so there's always reason to keep playing. Even early in the season it could become apparent that someone has a lot of yellow caps and you are unlikely to catch them or on the last few rounds if some players are well ahead on caps then there's no way you'll be able to catch them so that's why I think this way is fairer. Just keep trying your best and hopefully you'll grab a high score.

Lol - there’s no pain similar to having a size 4 football being volleyed into your thigh at the age of 11 on a cold January day  Smiley Oh the memories  Smiley

@hilarious: lols no I never played in the UK except 1 very quick 5 vs 5 on artificial pitch (I'm not from there!). I have played on frozen pitch only once in 2005... I remember because it snowed in Geneva for the first time in 5 years apparently, and I happened to be there for work. I definitely hurt myself, but it was just one night of thick snow. But for sure every part of the world must have tough football and UK stone balls and stone pitches are the only explanation for breeding the monsters of Gerrard, Carragher, Vardy. Good times but I suspect we're all here too old to try them again.

Which brings me to why I occasionally enjoy FA cup games. Good old English 4-4-2 games that throw the silkier Premier League teams off balance sometimes;)

@Cryptopreneur: I guess I remember the pitches I had in East Africa the most because it was a culmination of everything I wasn't used to as a short Southeast Asian up against super tall, super tough opponents... bloody legs made of steel, every tackle literally threw me off my feet... and my age (mid 30s at the time and losing pace, stamina and strength haha), I ended my first match needing first aid on my face and hips, torn pants.

@Mbitr: I actually always thought we would be behind in such all-time tables, but that's probably because my recent memory reminds me we've finished below 4th more times than above in the past 10 years (judging from how long we've been out of CL in the past decade!). I think Evertonians would be sad looking at that table =p

I MAY watch Wolves Man United. Provided I can find a stream. Am actually very ill now though, been in bed a lot, just only on this forum and not much else.

Oh, I wish you speedy recovery. Not the best way to kickstart a new year..

My opinion on the VAR remains that if a referee has been selected to officiate then his decision should remain paramount, Sideline review or VAR room, He should be the one making the review in most cases, if not they can as well scrap the need of having a referee out on the field and communicate all the decisions through the public address system.

Yeah I remember that too. It stung like a bitch. We also had the magic sponge. No matter what injury you went down for whether it was a dead leg or a broken foot the manager would trot onto the pitch with his bucket and sponge and douse wherever the injury was with ice cold water, which is the last thing you want on a freezing cold morning. Used to hate running around with soggy socks/boots (that's if it wasn't already pissing it down with rain). No idea how they thought a wet sponge was a good idea but they used to use them in professional football back in the day so I guess they really were magic. They used to make me get up and carry on when I saw them anyway so I guess they worked Cheesy.

Oh, I thought you were in the UK for some reason.

The trouble with that though is it's just going to add an insane amount of stoppage time if the ref has to review everything on the sideline. There's enough officials about. Maybe the guy who does the substitutions could do it but I think the team of VAR officials in their little FA dungeon somewhere should be counted on to be able to make the call without much hassle or hesitation. I would still suggest that they stop looking for everything any anything and just use it when called upon by one of the teams for a review which would stop all the unnecessary stoppage and waiting about.

Just a bit like the luck could be on both sides from time to time, it would be pure if humans wouldn't always point fingers to the ref's and if humans wouldn't always say the advantage is ALWAYS for the team that had that lucky decision ....

Main point, humans on the sidelines f***ed up themselves

XhomerX10 designed my nice avatar HATs!!!!!  Thanks Bro

A great one, yep. But actually says a lot about Everton as well. They are a big club, I hope their fortune changes with Ancelotti.
I don't see that rivalry as a fierce one and I'd rather compete for the title with Everton than with the Mancs.

YNWA! Bookies odds now tilt to Everton as favs ooooo

@hilarious: Have a lot of good friends in the UK, but myself only spent 4 months in my 40 years odd life;) I'm Commonwealth, if that means something haha. And magic sponge goddamn, we had the magic oil (it's red, smelly and very "hot" like super eucalyptus) and I think yeah they totally never worked haha.

@cryptofrka it would be great to see the blue and red of Merseyside dominate. We need more working class colours in the top;)

Everton lost to Liverpool under 12 team;)
Haha, no they were older than that but I saw the game, man Everton need to improve. Luckily for them Ancelotti is a great coach, he will kick them into shape.
