Newcastle should just start charging 10k for a game ticket and get their owners to buy the tickets every week. They'll soon rack up enough money 'legitimately' to then start spending and become the new City  Cheesy.

Other than Kylian Mbappe and perhaps, Walker... That fantasy team looks really achievable in two transfer windows, if you ask me.

First they need to look for a coach of high calibre with plan to stick him with a him for a long term regardless the results, 2nd they should approach bigger teams for player who are surplus to requirements, Barca, Real and Juventus comes to mind they'd get more than averagely fantastic players for great price, the only con being the wages such players would cost, they might end paying more in wages than they've avoided in transfer fees.

And they picked their transfers well over the years on average...  Unlike United after SAF.

Sticking to coach for a longer period would make that easier, but United's whoredom when it comes to managers, meehh!

@hilarious that is a brilliant idea. They probably don't even need to do it without stirring the Toon hornet's nest. Just pump the prices of hospitality tickets, pump the price of VIP tours off-games, pump every possible prawn-sandwich-catering package and they could really get themselves a nice pocket of change to get their dream team.

@harko two seasons maybe, but even that lineup won't be guaranteed to gel together in one season, so maybe 3 seasons minimum to play well together, but then you'd still need to beat City and Liverpool regularly.

^  City wanted to copy Barca's template and had long term plan on how things should pan out.  And it wasn't just about winning trophies, it was also about building their academy and producing young talents like how Barca does it.

And they picked their transfers well over the years on average...  Unlike United after SAF.

City spent a lot of money to win the title a couple of times. They have really underperformed in Europe though, Pep needs to earn his money by winning the CL.

^  I think they had a great chance this year after beating Real imo, before Rona happened.

Maybe around 6 transfer windows, three years.  And depending on how good their backroom staff is as far as scouting goes.

I think Poch could be a good pick to build something over there.

if they want, they'll find a way around how to bypass FFP. I still not understand, how PSG buy Neymar (and Mbape) in the same transfer window. Some of his sponsors pay a big percentage of transfer cost. Same situation with Ronaldo's move to Juventus.

I expect that it will bring some prominent names which have an expired contract, plus there will be cheap players because of a pandemic... Things can be fine for Newcastle, maybe only a new low oil price can ruin their plans.  Wink

Oh, that's a story for a Guy Ritchie movie. PSG could not afford Neymar due to FFP rules so PSG did not buy Neymar.
There's a rule in Spain that every player needs to have a release clause fee inserted in his contract. Basically, if a club wants a player and a player wants to go, the club pays the release clause and the club that owns the player has to accept the offer. There is also a rule that a player can buy himself out, pay his release fee to the club and become a free player - free to sign for anyone on a free transfer.

So - PSG owners paid Neymar ~200 million pounds for a few pictures and an obligation to be the mascot during the Qatar world cup, said it is not relevant to the transfer, Neymar bought his contract from Barcelona and signed for PSG on a free. So, PSG did not pay 1 penny for Neymar. Their owners did, of course, but that money is not in PSG's books.

You have to give it to them, they did find a creative way. There is no rule FIFA/UEFA could implement that somebody with shitload of cash will not find a way to exploit.

They can't be more lenient on some clubs than others. They're there to stop this sort of thing where wealthy owners buy a club and just buy the title by pumping money into them. There's pretty severe punishments for teams that do break them like City found out, but they probably should go further. No doubt City will manage to wrangle their way out of them as well.

@hilarious that is a brilliant idea. They probably don't even need to do it without stirring the Toon hornet's nest. Charge 10k for a replica shirt and £100 for a hot dog. Prices probably aren't that far off for food. It's been a last time I went to game but mini pizzas were like £5 or something.

There's many ways you can easily bypass the rules. Teams could easily do deals with brands/companies where they get the sponsors to pay the players a lot more as part of their sponsorships. There's always loopholes in any business and smart lawyers will come up with new ones all the time.

Must be some kind of gourmet game meat mini pizza. Makes me feel still "grateful" I can get steamed chickpeas and a street burger for less than 40 cents back home. The cheapness of the stuff in my mouth is unique, but reminds me people still can afford a ticket to escape the world for a little while.

@Trofo, cryptofrka: so many stories that, one day will be made into docus. Things happen right smack in front of everyone, and the rich always get away with it. Maybe they pay for it with some years in luxury jail in their retirement, but it'll always be too late.

https://metro.co.uk/2020/04/27/project-restart-12614208/

Quote
The Premier League is ramping up their plan to resume the season at the start of June in an operation that has been titled ‘Project Restart’, which will see a host of temporary changes made to the beautiful game in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. A ‘festive of football’ style schedule is being devised which would see the remaining 92 fixtures played in quick succession at neutral grounds, with a number of games show on free-to-air TV in an effort to bring some positivity back to the nation. But the format of the Premier League will not be the only thing that is tweaked, with fundamental changes expected to the way the game is played in order to incorporate social distancing – both in training and matches – and protect the safety of players and staff. From an increase in the number of substitutions allowed to preventing players from holding each other on set-pieces, here’s what to expect when football finally returns…

I mentioned before that it would be a good idea to play the Champion's League like on neutral grounds this but seems the PL are also considering it. I doubt the league will resume by June though. That seems very optimistic. In another article yesterday they said they won't restart until they get the go ahead from the government and that seems likely it'll be a long time before they do that.

Charge 10k for a replica shirt and £100 for a hot dog. Prices probably aren't that far off for food. It's been a last time I went to game but mini pizzas were like £5 or something.

Depends whether you class Chicago Town microwave pizzas as 'gourmet' as that's what they literally were selling. They usually cost £0.50-1.00 each if you buy them from the supermarket.

As I said in the other PL thread UEFA has given the domestic leagues a deadline of May 25th for plans to be announced on how they're going to restart. I wouldn't be optimistic if they haven't started by then. Still not sure if they'll outright cancel the whole thing though. will likely cause more problems to be honest. They should just postpone it for as long as they need then restart when possible.

Plans are to restart the season in early June, players will return to training in a couple of weeks. I really don’t think the season will be cancelled & that’s not just because I’m an LFC fan.

It seems Ligue1 and Ligue2 will be cancelled with PSG 'probably crowned champions'.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8264577/Ligue-1-CANCELLED-prime-minister-demands-no-football-played-August.html

I have no idea how will UEFA react to this, Belgium was the first country to cancel the league but UEFA said they will not let clubs into european competitions if they do so they cancelled that decision.

Premier league looks likely to continue behind closed doors soon but things like these are also important - if most of the countries cancel their leagues, UEFA will not be able to ban all clubs from Europe.

Most chances we will resume this season as now all is ready for training and now big leagues also want to complete season I am also feeling its not going to be cancelled.

EPL is planning to continue season, but what if government simply won't allow to do that? French and Netherlands leagues also planned it, but their government decision forced them to end season at current phase. And situation in this countries looks much better than in UK. Meanwhile in UK number of new cases still aren't getting smaller. I'm afraid that such scenario as we saw in France and Netherlands is possible.

Christ, French league really is ended along with Dutch.

@LTU: In Netherlands, the decision came from the FA, not the govt. In France, not very clear but yeah seems the news was derived after the PM's announcement so they'll still have to figure out how to settle promotions and relegations or even if PSG get the crown.

We're still not yet seeing a decision from the big 4 though, so I'm holding out on English FA being a bit more insistent on the leagues playing out.

I read somewhere in the newspaper, that English government wants EPL to be continued. the assumption is that this can have a positive effect on people in this crazy time when everyone is locked up at home. it makes sense to me, people can start to think about something other than a pandemic.

It's a tricky situation. Cancelling leagues is just going to open up a whole new can of worms in my opinion with teams who feel like they're missed or will potentially miss out on something. Even if you crown the current 1st place winners it's still unfair to everyone else.
Even given the fact that Liverpool and PSG would have been unlikely to throw away their strong leads, it was still technically possible and that leaves all the other teams who are fighting for the European slots and teams fighting relegation and also promotion. What to do about them?

Well that's the big thing holding them back. If the lock down lasts all year or even years then it's probably out of their hands.

Christ, French league really is ended along with Dutch.

Can't imagine PSG will be happy about missing out on the CL if UEFA ban teams from leagues that finished early. I'm sure there will be lots of legal action/appeals taken. Maybe leagues might end up getting restarted instead of cancelled. To be honest, it makes sense just to pause everything until things blow over.
