Zimbabwe’s Bitcoin ATM Sits Idle Just as Country Needs It Most

Zimbabwe’s Bitcoin ATM – the first and only one in the country – has been reported to be unusable, just as demand for Bitcoin there is at an all-time high.
Golix, the exchange responsible for installing the machine at their office in Harare, has been embroiled in a high courts battle since May 2018 with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. The central bank had ordered all banks in the country to sever ties with Golix and other exchanges, halting the facilitation of crypto trading. Ultimately, this forced exchanges, including Golix, to cease operations, with bank accounts frozen and large amounts of money owed to customers.

Will Lowered Block Rewards Cause Ethereum to Split?

Ethereum’s developers have decided to lower mining block rewards to 2 Ether, from the current reward of 3 Ether or a 33% reduction. This was decided during a 31 August developer meeting and will be implemented when the Constantinople hard fork takes effect. The hard fork is designed to smooth the transition from proof of work to proof of stake and when that happens Ethereum mining will become a thing of the past.

Masternodes as an Alternative Cryptocurrency Protocol

Over 400 cryptocurrencies use the Masternode protocol, the most famous of which perhaps is Dash. Masternodes are a variation on Proof-of-Stake (PoS) mining. PoS is when a user keeps coins in their wallet, staking them to help secure the network and generate new coins, accruing long-term interest. With Masternodes, a user must stake a large amount of coins and they receive significant profits long term, in exchange for their Masternode helping to run the network.

Charlie Shrem Says Hold Your Bitcoins for At Least 5 Years

Crypto expert Charlie Shrem spoke at the MoneyShow conference in San Francisco, saying that people investing in crypto and Bitcoin should hold it for at least five years.  Shrem specifically says, “Pick something in the top 10 or 20, and look at those, learn about them, and take a stake in them. Any crypto you’re going to buy, hold for five years. Say, I’m going to lock this, and this money is locked for five years. There’s a high probability you’ll come out ahead in five years, because usually, these bull and bear markets go in two-year cycles.”
