A large investor might be trying to move the market.. Sell walls create an impression of a strong supply. This makes some people, unwilling to wait for the wall to break down, pitch their sales offers below the wall. By moving the wall closer to the current bid again, a large investor might be able to move the market to a small extent and then buy at a lower price. The investor's goal is to move the market, not to actually sell his supply at that price, so when the price gets too close, such walls often disappear or move to a higher price. Especially, if you see the same amount popping up at different prices, there is probably someone trying to move the market without actually fulfilling orders or bids.

Just to clarify a question I always had after learning about the walls, will this have any effect on a non-sophisticated investors, that can not read these walls and only see the last trade price?

Yes we got knocked down a bit, morale was low, people were angry. But what did we do? Did we just lay down and give up? NO!!! Did we stop believing in our dream to become #1? NO!!! We got the f..k up like the champions we are and began fighting again!!! And when we got up we didn't fall to 19th place, or even 12th place, we fell to 9th place!!! So if we are dead and we are still on top of the other sh!t coins that have been posting FUD about us, then the rest of the sh!t coins better be terrified of us when we begin to resurrect today!!!

Today we are going to show the crypto-community and the rest of the world how powerful we really are. We are going to post the links to our press release everywhere we can and remind them what we accomplished this week. We are the community that raised thousands of dollars in mere minutes!!! We are the community that broke the record for trade volume on Mintpal while breaking Mintpal in the process. And yes we are the community that was knocked down and got back up with a 215% gain since last week!!!

For now. As I understand it as the PoW rewards get lower and so does the difficuly, eventually it becomes a liability and must be removed altogether.

PoS security is heavily dependent on timestamping -- you can have lower PoW, you just need to ignore the PoW timestamping in the PoS system.  Of course, this involves more than changing 10 lines of code.
