I don't think that for the new members like the rules. After the forum becomes the most uncomfortable and the most controllable. It is, of course, good that now there will be no spam, but I think that it is necessary to adjust the rules.

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

To be honest, when i first learned about Merit system i was upset. I thought it is a way to stop new members participation for bounties, then i realized it is a way to stop using multiple accounts especailly in signature campaigns (if you check spreadsheet you can see what i mean) and also to stop poor quality post which caused by signature campaigns requirements. You will understand the new changes by emphaty with Theymose.
I hope everyone who deserves can get merit soon.
An a suggestion to prevent poor quality post, may be more moderators in local threads can help this issue.

I strongly agree with the existence of the new regulation, this is so that we can make a useful post for members here as well as avoiding making post spam which aims to increase the rank of new accounts

Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member. All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted. Also, newbies can no longer set any signature or personal text.

Note that this does not affect:
 - PM rate-limiting, which is based purely on activity & whitelisted status.
 - "You must wait ___ seconds...", which is based purely on activity & whitelisted status.

But it does affect:
 - Voting in polls
 - Patroller jurisdiction
 - The "ignore newbie PMs" option.
 - "The body is omitted from this email because the sender is a newbie."
 - BBCode limits
 - Reduced-accuracy link filtering
 - Board restrictions

Many of these limitations can be eliminated with a copper membership. In particular, you can set a signature at Member level if you wear a copper membership.

One reason that I was hesitant to do this before is that there are an awful lot of newbie restrictions, and I don't want the forum to be unwelcoming to good newbies. I'll think about tying some of those to activity instead of rank in the future.

With help from DdmrDdmr, I just added 36 new merit sources, which should help newbies achieve the requirement. But if you're incapable of posting anything worthwhile, then you will never rank up, and you shouldn't: this isn't the forum for you.
I need the link to the 36 merit sources.
Thanks

What rules are you talking about?  Huh Why would new members not like the rules? Merit system is something beside the rules. It is just a system implemented to reduce spam and restrict useless users to rank up which is not something not to be liked by anyone if they are genuine users and are not bounty hunters and signature spammers.

Read the rules here if you haven't already. Seems like you have are comparing the systems to the rules, which are somehow different.

I'm glad you did this and it's going to help a lot but I still don't think it goes far enough. Why can't we remove signatures from Juniors as well and require ten merit to get one when they become a Member? Those who have farmed dozens or hundreds/thousands of accounts will just buy or trade the merit or purchase a Copper Membership because when they're making thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars from farming bounties/campaigns this is just a minor inconvenience. Making them get ten merit per account is significantly more difficult and expensive and abuse would also be easier to spot. A lot of one merit abuses will just fly under the radar.

One reason that I was hesitant to do this before is that there are an awful lot of newbie restrictions, and I don't want the forum to be unwelcoming to good newbies. I'll think about tying some of those to activity instead of rank in the future.

I don't think it is unwelcoming and good posters won't have much issue in getting ten merit. A truly great post or two could get you that alone. I understand the reasoning that we shouldn't be putting restrictions from actually posting, but removing their signatures or requiring more merit doesn't effect that at all. The issue here is one merit still isn't difficult to get and I'm not sure how much it will dent the people who are doing the most damage here. I think the huge farmers will just cough up money for the Copper Membership or trade merit between themselves if one is all they need. Is there a place that lists all new Copper Memberships purchased? That would be helpful to keep an eye on as if we see hundreds of users purchasing it abuses will still be easy to spot.

Yeah, I understand that it feels a little bit too harsh to implement this new system. However, it helps to contain the current spam problem.

One merit is harsh? It's not harsh enough. It effects a person's ability to post here zero and the worst of abusers here will still just find a way around it.

I think you should consider the ability to buy merit for yourself. You can already effectively do this by way of purchasing a copper membership. Based upon the fact that well under 1% of active users have received a single merit, there need to be additional ways for people who do not post garbage to rank up.

Further, if people are buying access to additional features such as signatures, they have an added incentive to not post crap, and the cost will serve as a deterrent to those who have ranked up from posting complete garbage.

I would be against buying merit or ranks, but as I have mentioned before buying the benefits of ranks via things like Silver/Gold Memberships should still be considered and would be beneficial in numerous ways.

I think you should consider the ability to buy merit for yourself. You can already effectively do this by way of purchasing a copper membership. Based upon the fact that well under 1% of active users have received a single merit, there need to be additional ways for people who do not post garbage to rank up.

Buying merit or normal ranks is like buying yourself a bunch of trophies to put on your shelf. It's stupid, and it's an insult to everyone who achieved it legitimately. I can't see ever doing that. I don't particularly mind letting people pay for some of the privileges of these things, such as with copper membership, but it should be a parallel system.

As I just said above, I agree, but why not extend this logic to people buying accounts as well? If that's ok then I think we should add the additional Silver and Gold Memberships as there are numerous benefits to this and it significantly reduces the account selling/scamming market. If people can buy accounts here then let them buy the benefits of them from the forum instead which is win win. It's going to happen anyway so why not make it safer for everyone and drive down the demand for farmed and hacked accounts in the process?

Copper membership is good. Now, if you want to participate in signature campaigns, you can either pay the $10-$20 for copper membership or accomplish the herculean task of making one good post. I don't think that it's unreasonable in either case.

I think it's too cheap though. I think we should make Copper Membership as just some sort of basic whitelisting function ie you can post images and post a little faster, but not allow a signature. Then if you want a signature buy the more expensive Silver and Gold Memberships. If you're earning tens of thousands here then paying $10-20 isn't much even over your dozens to hundreds/thousands of accounts, especially if you can make that back with a few posts on a signature campaign.

If people are making good posts but are still struggling to get merit, then that's a problem with the merit system and should be fixed on my end. Demanding money in order to bypass a broken system would be really bad. But AFAICT the merit system actually is reasonably effective at identifying good posters.

Adding more merit sources to meet demand over time will fix this, but you can still either earn merit and ranks the natural way or cough up money to bypass that. You'd still be a zero-merit/activity whatever member so it's not like they're buying ranks but I think buying a bigger signature should be an option, especially if we allow users to do this by buying accounts anyway which is such a shady black market already where scamming is rife.

Hello, my friends.
I understand that this affects the display of images created by TS.

for example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5025885.0

I got very upset
  Cry

help me, I ask you

Buy a Copper Membership or get the merit.

It is difficult to receive a Merit from members who have merit. If I say that there are many people selling their merit, do you believe it? .There are people who post hundreds of content but they do not receive any merit.

If you're making hundreds of posts and never get merit then the issue probably lies with you so take a look at your posts and those of others who are getting merit and try work out where you're going wrong.

not all jr.member spamming, but why are we generalized to a newbie, even though many of them are late trying to make good posts, but it's hard now we get merit, are they the ones we fear if many get merit they will feel Compared to the bounty program, I feel that those of us above are worried that if many of us get merit, the amount of prizes from the bounty will decrease because the bounty cursed the pool system, therefore many members here are trading merit and accounts, is this fair, many of them 1 person who has more than 1 account, this is not fair

Boo-hoo. Nobody said all Juniors are spamming. If you can't earn a merit then either buy a Copper Membership or go away.

I quite agree with you, most merit holders don't want to share because they don't want more people competing with them on signature bounty campaigns

Oh do shut up. We don't want people like you who have ruined the forum by copy and pasting content over god knows how many accounts:

The EOS and TRON platforms are shaping up to be great platforms in the crypto space, EOS (EOS) and TRON (TRX) are great blockchain projects that could go on to deliver great results both for their community of investors and the public. EOS seeks to transform and decentralize the cryptocurrency trading industry by providing a platform that makes it easy and cheaper to trade and exchange crypto assets, for me  EOS looks a better proposition for now

https://stocksgazette.com/2018/05/01/eos-eos-vs-tron-trx-which-one-should-you-add-to-your-portfolio/

The reason why altcoins exist is because the original bitcoin software was and is open source, so people made their own varients of bitcoin. Whether or not we need all these altcoins is irrelevent.

https://www.reddit.com/r/altcoin/comments/6gtd10/why_do_we_need_altcoins/

Focus on a consistent  process  and Growing size If you can become consistent in your trading process in terms of executing your edge and your money management, and you have a positive trade expectancy sizing properly is essential for growing your trades.  Some traders trade too big too quickly, which causes inconsistency and usually a large setback.

http://www.staceyburketrading.com/5-ways-improve-trading/

YOU are the reason for why we need these restrictions and why it should be more than just one merit because I'm sure someone would have given one of your copy and pasted posts merit eventually.

I want to add! Cryptocurrency is made for decentralization and the forum should be the same, and with your new rules you make your forum centralized!!!

Oh, it's very decentralized. It uses the VWYF algorithm (now with added blockchain™) to ensure complete decentralization. How it works is very simple: if you don't like it, go make your own forum.

Admins!!! What you have done will lead to the fact that now massively will sell merit and who will not share it! Or you are interested in it themselves( to sell merit)? What you have done I believe is illegal! Think again, while the community has not found another forum!!!

Illegal? LOL. Theymos, please look into all this whiners. I'm sure these will be the idiots with hundreds to thousands of accounts.

That means, that i need to buy merit, just to rank up?
I been doing a lot of post, but never had a merit.
What should i do?

Make good posts
Huh
profit

PMSL. Someone create one to petition theymos to either require more merit or remove signatures altogether. In fact, lets remove signatures completely until you get an insane amount of merit (500+). Then you really will have to sing for your supper. You people are pure cancer.

Respected bitcointalk admistratior and moderators how about the member (Jr member) who turns into jr member before 1 September remains Jr member but who create account after 1 September required at least 150 or 200 activity point to promote into Jr member this is just my suggestion please think about it.

How convenient, Mr I Registered Before 1st of September.

I think this is good, bring fairness to the active members, and join in for a long time.
I only regret that I joined Bitcointalk too late.  Cry

It's never too late to get merit.

I totally understand the move because of so many shitposts that people place to make the signature requirements. Only why not just change the option to wear a signature to members+. So with 10 merits or more?

I am a BountyHunter, trying to build up a little portfolio of cryptocurrencies because I truly believe in the blockchain. Since I have no money to invest and missed the 2017 hype, Bountyhunting is the only way for me to do so.

Because of the demotion to Newbie, I cannot enter most bounty campaigns anymore and seriously reduces my ability to earn some crypto in a fair way.

Another thing I noticed in the merit system: almost all merit goes to people who already have merit. It's like in society, where rich people, like to be around rich people and help each other getting richer. If a newbie (or poor guy) comes up with something he/she often does not get the credit for it.

I would have given you a merit until you started with the rich get richer bollocks. Make good posts and you'll get merit. Nobody gives a fuck here how rich you are. All we care about is cleaning up the forum from the shitposting scum that have ruined it for everyone. Make posts with effort and people will give you merit.

merit=salvation.

I truly agree with this kind of actions, this will help the forum to be clean and adding a post with respect. But unfortunately to those who are posting legally and behaving with rules and regulations in this forum has huge effect on us. We are here because of bounties that you are sharing in this community. And for me as bounty hunters, demoting back to newbie get us down. Some of the projects freeze our signatures campaign and some of them are accepting only Jr. Member ranks, I'm not a merit seeker, I'm happy to be here nothing more nothing less, I do help once here, posting a Free Twitter Audit, just to everyone here that need to update their Twitter Audit for Free, But unfortunately that post was deleted twice with no EFFECT at all, I help a lot on that time, and gives me smile for some people send me message to say thank you. Atleast give us more way to get MERIT, so that being Jr.Member will be proud of.

https://postimg.cc/YvDQxPpk

So please tell me this kind of action has no rights to get merit at all?
Please gives us more details on how to gain merit, as a bounty hunter.

Thank you so much.

Now I am unable to continue my work because being a Newbie I can't post any image in the forum.

Why does it stop you working? You can still post a link to the image, and that avoids clogging the threads with images, especially when some selfish member quotes the image to increase the download size, and obscures the decent posts.

Most of the bounty campaigns doesn't accept Newbies, even though I have a portfolio of 20+ projects translated they will not accept me. I am sure that this update of the rank system will reduce the spam posts, I also noticed that many users are posting useless posts just to earn a few coins from signature campaigns, but this change will also affect a part of users who are not posting spam and I hope you guys will find a solution for us too.

They don't need to buy, they already have 100 of account. They can easily distribute 1,1,1,1...... which will also not be suspicious merit abusing.
Don't do like that. If detected, you will receive red trust. As you know losing prestige is very easy, but regaining it is much harder. Most signature campaign refuse red trust members.

Every decision always has pros and cons. No need to worry, honest user! There will be a time when your post will be useful for others and let's hope that person will give us some merit.

What I was meaning to say here is that if you have a higher rank on the forum, your posts are taken more seriously, thus receiving more merit in the end. Obviously, an outstanding post by any newbie can still be rewarded with merit, no doubt.

I even notice it in myself when I read the forum, that I value a Hero/Legendary post way more than a newbie post.

I have 386 and 196 activities that wasn't easily gotten. Only to be demoted. People don't share merit anymore I know because of the massive influx of persons in btt. If this affect you , you could be smiling but people that has worked and for no fault of theirs didn't cross over need a little leniency. 200 acitivities for a merit is still a good option . They can pursue other merits from Jr member
And isn't it amazing how you magically came up with a merit today from a post that's worthless from back on july 1st?

Wow, just want to say thank you theymos. I really didn't expected that you will implement these restrictions
It's fun to see all these demoted noobs who came here to complain. They even started a petition https://www.change.org/p/amins-bitcointalk-com-bitcointalk-com-say-no-to-new-restrictions?recruiter=582167975&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition. They really believe that online petition can change something on private forum lol? Cheesy Now we really can say that Merit ruins lives Cheesy
I think that if you're good or average poster - 1 merit to become Junior is nothing. It will be interesting how the restrictions will improve forum in long term.
sMerits should have lifetime to giveout.
I know many people who does have sMerits but doesnt distrubute them.
You're, many people haven't spent any of their sMerit. But I don't think that we should force them to spend their Merit. I think it also may increase Merit abuse.

If only I could go back to the past to change that. But I don't think that will happen. I hope there is a menu for deleting posts that we have created so that I can delete errors that I made in the past.
Even when you can go back to your past, you cannot change anything because it is your manifestation, which means you only respond to your present situation, you cannot see the future. Just move forward.

There is a saying from my favorite movie: yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present. - Oogway, Kung Fu Panda (2008)

Hopefully in the future I will be a better person with quality posts. I promise to you all.
Do not make any promises or actions base on someone’s opinion, do what makes you happy not for other people, but for yourself. I was once told you are a merit whore (when I was a newbie), at first, I want to prove the person that I can make a change, but in the end, I was wrong. I am much happier when I proved that I did it for myself and be an inspiration for newbies who are willing to make a difference. I am sure you will change for the better, my friend.

To all newbies, any negative remarks should make you stronger and be a better person, you should thank them, not take it as a bashing junk.

Good luck!

See you around.

I have really struggled to increase the number of merits I have earned since joining the forum, it really is not a simple task. I try to make sensible and reasoned posts every day that answer the questions posed by the threads I am replying to and contribute to the discussion. My aim is to level up to Member so in theory that should not be a difficult task. I mostly end up posting in the altcoins section due to the fact I found many posts from the Bitcoin forums were getting deleted on a daily basis and this plays havoc with bounty campaign quotas.

You post that you have added 36 new sources for merit so would you be kind enough to share with us the forums we need to be posting on to attract the attention of these merit distributors? I can see the theory and requirement behind the initial changes to the ranking system but in practice I am not sure the original objectives have been achieved.

Do you judge post made by a user that has a paid sig differently than a post made by a user without "paid posts"?
See:
it depends on the signature campaign. If someone wears a signature advertising some token for an ICO, and gets paid in tokens, I often don't read his post. If I don't read it, he won't receive any Merit for sure.
I know your signature campaign has a strict manager, mine too, but most of the ICO spammers don't care about anything. It's simply not worth reading all the crap that's posted.

I already noticed the same thing... Maybe it would be a good idear to generate some statistics in a couple of days and create a list of posts that were given exactly 1 merit AND this 1 merit was needed to stop the demotion of the receivers... That way we could filter trough these posts and neg tag anybody who clearly tried to cheat the system by trading/buying exactly 1 merit....
I remember theymos saying not to tag them for small abuses, and I for sure won't do it.

Quote
As for the proposition of anybody losing 1 merit every x days: i must say i'm against the proposition... What about people that seldomly post? Even if 100% of their posts would be high quality, it would still be probable for them to demote if they didn't forcefully post a couple posts every couple of days...
An easy fix would be to lose 1 Merit each time you go up 100 in Activity.

This is a great news, maybe 5 merits for jr members are even better, I'm very happy with this change.
If Jr. Member requirements go up by 1 Merit point every 6 months, it will demote the farmers again Cheesy
