I hope it will help reduce spam a little bit, but unfortunately for account farmers, 1 merit is not a big deal they always can buy it.

You are right, they will easily do it. I think this rule will be very wise if the person who can give merit is a moderator.

Should i just say am finished or not?
That's up to you.  Whining about your circumstances probably won't do much good if people are being prudent with their sMerits.

I took a look at your post history and it's full of garbage one-line posts, which are typical of bounty spammers.  Nothing you write adds anything to the threads you posted in--those posts are generic "rah rah bitcoin" posts, and they don't stand out from all the other similar posts.

Just FYI, a meritocracy is not supposed to reward people based on their hardships, poverty, or a person's estimations of how good they're doing.  A meritocracy rewards talent and performance.  Sadly, most members who are here for bounties don't have any talent in writing and basically have very little to say.

I think this rule will be very wise if the person who can give merit is a moderator.
No. No. No.

Even if they can buy, the price will be higher now since Theymos introduced this system (if there is a merit trading going on), and it would take them a lot if they have 20++ accounts. You will be surprised of how mmany accounts a people can have and maintain.

The word is official now. Merit ruins my life !

You don't need to pay copper membership in order to participate, you know that right? If you don't mind using the forum it is intended to be used, you won't even need the membership since the first thread you start will be everything that you need in order to become Jr. Member. At least if it has some form of value. Otherwise, here you go  Wink
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2385104.0

I personally have mixed feelings, as for me it would be totally fine if Newbie could become a Jr. Member without the need of Merit. I'd instead restrict the signature privileges of Jr. Members more heavily or remove them entirely. For me, the rank of Jr. Member shows that you dedicated time and efforts. Those efforts may not be acknowledged yet (in form of Merits), but the member made them. A Newbie is someone who is new.
this has become the policy of theymos and he has the highest strength in this forum, whatever happens we must keep following the rules he has made.
he did not make his own decisions, many considerations he had to do before making a policy. at least 1 achievement is the difference between junior and beginner members, not 30 junk posts.  Roll Eyes

It's not fair, and I hope it will change somehow atleast for the multiaccounts.
But let's be honest the most of people are complaining right now are probably the one who has a lot of multiaccounts for abusing or 99% of their post as bounty reports.
I was Jr. when the merit was born, find your "field" and use it, if you do a great job you will merited.

...

People are here, because of bounty hunting's
That's why spamming is rampant.

I am affected by the new merit rule as well. And yes, I signed up to the forum because of bounties, trying to reach a level where joining a bounty program would bring me more than the minimum reward.

I get it that people post a lot of spam posts in some topics and I definitely agree that something has to be done to keep a certain quality of the forum but I don't know... Shouldn't the administrator(s)/mod(s) rather delete entire topic that is considered inappropriate instead of just removing posts and banning users?

It's also true that I post a lot of low-quality posts (ie. bounty reports, proof-of-participation etc) but I find it hard to believe that not a single post can be considered as quality post...

I think this change not so bad for old Jr. Members, it means we need to focus on quality post/comment instead of farmer posts from now on. I think many people will complain about it the first time they read it however they should adapt to our new policy soon. And they should know that this change will help us to avoid and limit fraud and scammers.

Finally, my wish granted. Grin Actually I've been discussing this kind of requirements to a group on telegram last week. I said that it's much better if the global moderator change the requirements of newbie and jr.member. This is not only to lessen the number of the participant on bounties, this is also to change their behavior and to keep on their mind that because they are here to learn not to earn.

I am very grateful that I have one, and hoping soon there's someone appreciates my post especially on local. But again, I'm happy and contented to my one merit.

Thanks and regards.

Quote
Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member. All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted. Also, newbies can no longer set any signature or personal text.

Note that this does not affect:
 - PM rate-limiting, which is based purely on activity & whitelisted status.
 - "You must wait ___ seconds...", which is based purely on activity & whitelisted status.

But it does affect:
 - Voting in polls
 - Patroller jurisdiction
 - The "ignore newbie PMs" option.
 - "The body is omitted from this email because the sender is a newbie."
 - BBCode limits
 - Reduced-accuracy link filtering
 - Board restrictions

Many of these limitations can be eliminated with a copper membership. In particular, you can set a signature at Member level if you wear a copper membership.

One reason that I was hesitant to do this before is that there are an awful lot of newbie restrictions, and I don't want the forum to be unwelcoming to good newbies. I'll think about tying some of those to activity instead of rank in the future.

With help from DdmrDdmr, I just added 36 new merit sources, which should help newbies achieve the requirement. But if you're incapable of posting anything worthwhile, then you will never rank up, and you shouldn't: this isn't the forum for you.

This is one of the earthshaking news for all Jr. Members here in bitcointalk forum, even me!  I was very shocked when I was read this new rules for ranking system. I think a lot of members here was upset and discourage because of Theymos groundbreaking news updates they think it is not fair for all jr members who was trying to do their best to create knowledgeable and informative OP and comments.

Although it is unexpected to be happened for me! We need to follow all new rules and regulations what was Theymos did for this forum. I think he didn't do this for self interest I think it is for all members here to make this forum more progressive.

Don't look for the negative side of this new rules rather makes this as a motivation to improve your self not only for a money or profit's but also to understand more and learn new things here in crypto world.

I hope this message will helps everyone!  Smiley

There are several threads where people can comment with posts they feel have been "overlooked" and do deserve to be merited. I suggest trying it there, if you believe your post did deserve more.

Honestly, the change is a joke. That won't stop the spam anyway, as long as the spammers can buy copper membership, have a signature and can continue.
The change only means that the spammers have to pay a small amount to theymos before. Afterwards they can continue as before.
Without copper membership or if they still have no signature, the change would really do something, but so somehow not.
Only i see that? What's your opinion about this?

edit message:

The change really seems to bring something. I did not expect that.
So i withdraw my complaint and my respect goes to Theymos.

Well at the current condition, that obviously won't leave any effect at all. Hundreds or sometimes thousands of posts are already deleted every day but that still don't make any change, even after the merit system is implemented.

I said that it's much better if the global moderator change the requirements of newbie and jr.member.
Only theymos can make such changes

At least it's better than nothing. Having to pay a small amount or earn 1 merit might seem easy for you, but it will be a hard task for spammers with, say, 10 accounts or something.

I'm fully endorsing the new change, which I have always thought should have been introduced even earlier. There are really too many spamming accounts and the lowest level spam has actually risen in the past months. I'm speaking about those posts which have NOTHING to do with the threads they are posted in - and they are probably made by the way of bots and they pollute every thread.
I don't care if I'm becoming a Newbie again. My posts are probably too average to get merited, but that's it, I take it easy and I'm quite indifferent to rank. It would be much much worse to see all those herds of shitposters saying nothing often out of place and in a broken English ranking up to Legendary status and thus turning this whole rank system into a total farce.

How to get 1 merit and what's the benefits of being copper member with newbie rank? Please answer, I really need to know. And this new rules is good! Even if I also got demoted because I'm at Jr.Member rank with no merits. 😁 I find this new rule a good and wise decision because there are so many Newbies here that have multiple accounts or creating a new account/s and then they will bash and spreading some FUDs to other threads, etc.

I hope I could get merits someday because I will lost all my efforts here, thinking that, is this the end of my Crypto world?  Huh Wise rule by the way.  Wink Smiley

I first found out about this new rule, honestly I was disappointed but after I read again and saw that I saw in the thread bounty, this rule must apply and if possible improve because, many duplicate and scam accounts, especially in airdrops campaigns

Rather than downgrade to Newbie, why do not you limit your signature set to the Member rank?
