Hi, I have downloaded the file and do all the steps but when I am flashing my z9 is saying: tar : invalid magic tar: short read Please, can you help me with this?

From the first post:

If your browser automatically uncompresses archives, you will get a 'tar: short file read' error on upload. Please disable automatic uncompress in your browser. You should be uploading a ".tar.gz" file to your miner, not a ".tar" when flashing the firmware image.

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

PS4 Contest is officially over. I have taken the snapshot of usage over the last 24 days and have begun processing it to select the winner. I hope to have the results completed by end of day Christmas (family and stuff takes priority).

Thank you,

Jason

Folk,

Firmware 2.1d has been released which corrects an issue with firmware certificate expiration. Please upgrade to this release.

If you are a paid user, you will have to reapply your license after upgrading.

Thank you,

Jason

I tested the firmware on a Z9 mini and didnt really make any diffference?

What batch mini?
For batch1, benefits are minimal at best.
For later batches, the ability to tune your system on a per board basis can net you +5% or more.

This firmware was targeted and focused for the Z9s -- it only exists on the mini at the rest of users.

If it does not gain you anything, no harm, no foul and I thank you for trying it out!

Jason

I have 6 x Z9 minis batch 1 and no Z9 so i cant test one and maybe a voltage increase is need on the mini Z9

thx

Folk,

Following the same logic used for the 1 ZEC contest the beginning of this month, the winner of the PS4/Spiderman bundle has been selected and contacted.

There were a total of 7,013 entries, 6 of which were from forum users on the giveaway thread, the rest were from firmware users.

I'll make the breakdown of entries per day available if requested, but I figured 24 lines of data would not really be helpful.

For each user who posted in the giveaway thread, 1 entry was added.
For each system that was running firmware, paid or free, 1 entry was added per day.

This file was randomly shuffled.

To select a real random number, I requested a number between 1 and 10000 from my wife and 2 users on the equihash discord service.

The numbers selected were: 25, 8731, and 1369.

These were totaled and divided by 2, dropping any decimal to determine the winning entry in the data file (25+8731+1369)/2 = 5062.5 or 5062 after dropping the decimal.

This resulted in a winning support ID of c0492572-fbf5-11e8-8c83-XXXXXXXX (last part has been obscured).

The winner happens to be a user on the Equihash discord chat (see my signature for a link to the discord) by the name of MinerX.312 - congrats!

I will begin another contest at the beginning of the year and I thank everyone for the participation.

Accepting ideas for the January giveaway.

Xbox One X?
Nintendo Switch?
PS4 again?

Something else?

Practically the suggestions should be under $400 USD please (honestly, dev fees do not pay that much, lol).

Thank you,

I vote for a Nintendo Switch.

Thank you -- that seems to be the consensus from discord as well.

MinerX.312 - Thank you for updating the thread here and I'm glad the PS4 made it safely to you.

With some luck, I'll be able to run another contest for January and it looks like it may be a Nintendo Switch this time around.

Thank you,

Jason

All disagreements aside I would like to know if you want a copy of the Bitmain source code for cgminer 4.9.2 it looks like it was for bitcoin but at least it is a good start of the source code and may help you in your coding. If you do let me know and I will get it uploaded and send you the link.

Post it to github for the rest of the class.

I'd be surprised if you have anything different than what they've already posted up in various obscure places.

The closest is the "DASH" variant for what it is worth.

I came across it on GitHub it is for the S7. Here is the link. https://github.com/bitmaintech

I don't know if it is bitmain themselves or someone using the name but there are quite a few source files for different miners. If that is the case eventually the z9 one should be released.

That was bitmain. Again, the -DASH variant is closer to the Z series units in terms of implementation: https://github.com/bitmaintech/cgminer-dash

Heck, you could probably make it run on the Z series units if you mapped out every hardware address and made some updates to a couple of large functions. Not impossible... I spent a little time on that in fact, but decided to spend the time elsewhere.

Thanks you for the information. I do see the dash is much closer. I am looking to play around is all and am not out to step on your projects. I am too burnt out on coding and I don't want to spend a whole lot of time on something large anymore. 40+ years total of coding. I started at age 11 on a TI-99 and a pack of cassette tapes.

Although I am working on some designs for a home power station to reduce a miners power cost to $0 or very close to $0. It would cost 2-3k to built the basic unit which will put out 10-15kw then cost would be higher depending on how much power you actually need. Once the plans are completed I will release them on a donation basis.

Howdy folk,

A friendly reminder that the reason the dev-fee is set up so it mines for you for 10 minutes first is so you can tune, not so you can restart your miner every 10 minutes and avoid a dev-fee.

So if what I've said matches you in the last 24 hours, you might want to find another firmware.

Folk,

For the month of January, I will be giving away a Nintendo Switch to firmware users. The rules will be the same as December, with 1 entry per day per system. This is for users of 2.1(d) or higher.

Thank you,

Folk,

This will be a "Dev-fee" free weekend, with the dev-fee being disabled until Monday January 6th, 2019.

This will require 2.1(d) to be installed -- 2.1(c) expired due to a mistake I made -- I still have approximately 20 systems running it that need to upgrade. Please check to make sure you are not one of them.

Thank you,

Jason

Hello, just trying to update to latest fw version

Keep getting "tar short read"

I unzipped the file as per the instructions, and then tried to upload the .tar and it fails.

I've tried winzip, winrar, 7zip, no dice.

No matter how i unzip the "UNZIP ME" file, it just fails?

Any ideas?

Thank you

jamiec, you are mixing up the firmware upgrade from the license application -- and the confusion is my fault. When I first provided download links to paid users, it was the whole firmware. The updated links are just the license file.

So.. apply 2.1d, CLEAR YOUR BROWSER CACHE, then follow the instructions in your "UNZIP_ME_*" file.

PM me if you have any other questions.

I see, many thanks for the reply, appreciate you coming back to me.

I've updated as per your instructions and it's all sorted.  Really like the per board control.

keep up the great work  Smiley
