What I am suggesting is a second division cricket league, for those cities which are not participating in the IPL. For example, we can have teams from cities such as Kochi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kanpur, Lucknow.etc. This will increase the fan following of cricket in the second tier cities. I would like to have 10 teams in IPL and another 10 in the second division.
We had teams in the IPL from Kochi and Pune and other teams but they were dissolved because of financial issues, to own a team in the IPL you need to have huge amount of money and if the team does not get enough sponsorship then it will be really difficult to retain the team and you need to have security deposit on top of that, if there are more private investors to come up with a team when we might see an increase in the number of teams.

Both Kochi and Pune got dissolved because of issues other than IPL. The Pune team was owned by Subrata Roy (the head of the Sahara India Pariwar). He was in jail for almost two years, his company became bankrupt and as a result the team could not afford to pay the IPL franchise fee. For the Kochi team, there was infighting between the investors. The investors were from Gujrat and they had issues with the Kerala government regarding tax on the gate collection.

That said, having an idea of a second division of IPL is a good one. BCCI can reduce the franchise fee, from the average of $300 or $400 million per team to around $100 million. Given the amount of cricket lovers in India, this may not be a big amount. And they can have 20 teams, with all the mid level cities represented. And another suggestion is to have a promotion/relegation system. During every season, the top ranking team from the second division will play an eliminator match with the bottom ranked IPL team. The winner will go to the IPL and the loser will be demoted to the second division.

So you accept that finance was the key factor for folding Pune, if Sahara was in trouble they could have sold the franchise as you could fetch big amounts for a team and if that is the case why is no one able to do that, it is financial issues and no one was ready to purchase a cricket team and hence they decided to fold it altogether.

For the Kochi team, there was infighting between the investors. The investors were from Gujrat and they had issues with the Kerala government regarding tax on the gate collection.
Here also finance was the issue, if the government was imposing tax on the gate collection will you fold a team if it is a profitable venture. So the idea of Gujarat folded because of the government is a rumor and the real issue is finance.

This could be very interesting because India is one off biggest market in cricket if BCCI implement like this surely its going to help them too much as IPL one for only 6 teams and and IPL two for 10 to 12 teams many local players also benefited from this as well and BCCI will be in more profit.

There is huge amount of interest for cricket in India and that is evident from the success of state T20 leagues. I have seen crowd numbering thousands in some of the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) and Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) matches. And remember that these are not even inter-provincial matches. They are intra-provincial matches equivalent to grade cricket in Australia or club cricket in England.

The IPL blocks around one and half months (April-May) every year in the cricketing calendar. We can have a second division, which is played at some other time (February-March maybe?),  and there can be a condition that anyone who has played in more than 3 IPL matches during the previous season can't participate in the second division for that year. This will give more opportunity for the younger players.

This will give more opportunity for the younger players.
It is hard to set such limitations on participation. Hundreds of players were listed for the auction, from those each team choose the player they need. This means those selected list of people for auction were taken after lots of filtering through state games. Apart from this political influence will get its Quota.

Being highly populated it is very hard to find the one who is good and give him the opportunity to play. Somehow through these state level leagues more young faces has got little recognition, and few have got added to the auction list for IPL. As large owners spend money, it doesn't mean they won't expect return out of the same. It is pure business, so they won't leave good players for the second session play of the year.

Now one of the most popular face of Indian cricket team Ganguly is getting honored to be the BCCI head. Let's wait and see what initiative he takes forward to give chance to young players.

If there are good matches you will find crowd in India not only in cricket but in any sport but people give more importance to cricket as everyone can play cricket in any space available and all you need is bat and ball or any improvised items just to play  Cheesy, i remember going to watch local club football matches in late 80s with my dad with huge crowds and it was like a carnival and it was fun and when i was playing cricket at university level we could see small crowds during early 2000 and i was into athletics and the stadiums are usually full whenever there was a district competition and even during ICSE/ISC nationals which is usually conducted in North of India. So getting a crowd in India for any sporting event is not a big task in my experience.

This is definitely a good idea and I think a T-10 system would be better here though I feel that 8 teams in both the IPL and the 2nd division would be optimal . There is a high probability for something like this in the future due to the growing popularity of the IPL.

Now one of the most popular face of Indian cricket team Ganguly is getting honored to be the BCCI head. Let's wait and see what initiative he takes forward to give chance to young players.
This is great news. He is aiming at improving the BCCI administration while focusing primarily on 1st class Cricket. Hoping that he will bring some much needed changes unlike the previous corrupt presidents.

Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Muttiah Muralitharan set to feature in new T20 tournament

Now we are going to see all (5 Test playing nations) retired players in T-20 tournament, Which is schedule in India next year. Road Safety World Series. So far 110 retired players confirmed their participation, my guess is financial setup-auction rituals are similar to IPL if there are any.

The Hundred: Chris Gayle, Steve Smith and David Warner among top-priced players for draft

Wow. This is awesome. I hope they telecast this tournament on the popular channels. It will be great to watch legends like Sachin, Lara, Sehwag etc play against bowlers like Lee, Muttiah etc even if they are way past their prime.

Another tournament I am looking forward to. T-20 popularity continues to skyrocket leading to such fun tournaments. It will be interesting to watch if Warner and Gayle can recover their form through this tournament.

True, its treat for old timers and young generation as well. i am sure they are going to telecast on sports channels. they are planning to run this tournament for next 10 years or so and i hope spectators gives thumbs up to this initiative.

Edit : About 100 ball Cricket
We can only speculate about Warner and Gayle atm but they have capability to switch their form in any franchise cricket anytime, so nothing to worry about per se. anyway this is the complete list of players Who registered for The Hundred Draft and in which price category?

True, its treat for old timers and young generation as well. i am sure they are going to telecast on sports channels. they are planning to run this tournament for next 10 years or so and i hope spectators gives thumbs up to this initiative.
Big fan of the Sehwag, Sachin Indian team. Great to see them back to the ground once again for showing how great they were. It will be a blessing for the new generation to see them playing.

Edit : About 100 ball Cricket
I don't welcome short format matches, it will certainly destroy the real cricket aka test format. ICC is now running test championship to encourage test format.

Why do you think that shorter formats are bad for Cricket? Majority of the sports in this world that are really popular are short format games(Soccer etc). T-20 cricket breathed new life into the sport and majority including me absolutely love it.

Test matches are entertaining in their own way, but majority will always prefer shorter format games in comparison due to the time involved, entertainment factor etc. Most of these T-20 tournaments like IPL etc pay more than regular tournaments for these reasons primarily.

When compared to T20 and ODI matches, relatively few people watch the test matches. They are no longer suitable, as people don't have free time to watch matches that can stretch for up to 40 hours. Even T20 matches are a bit too long, when compared to football or volleyball matches. The ICC can try their best, but they will find support for test matches only in the most hardcore regions (India, parts of England.etc).

Now coming to the new format launched by the ECB, I think that there is not much difference between it and the T20 format (100 balls vs 120 balls). I would still go with the T10 format, which was invented by some of the Pakistani expats in Abu Dhabi. An average T10 match is almost having the same duration as that of a NBA or EPL match.

Well i am Test cricket Fan as well and i prefer Test cricket over shorter Format any day. @Haunebu and @bryant.coleman already pointed out good points in favor of shorter format and we have to be realistic with the ground realities, we can't deny the fact that majority loves or prefer Shorter format and then there is a financial aspect. the more money any Board or ICC have in their piggy banks, then they can give extra boost to Test Format.

100 Ball Cricket, I am excited for this one!

Any former Pakistani players included in this tournament ?
Since this tournament will happen in India, that's why i am asking this question ?

Unfortunately no Retired cricketer from England, Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand or Zimbabwe. Participants cricketers are from 5 test playing nations. India, South Africa, Australia, Sri Lanka and West Indies.

Come on these are retired players coming back to play cricket and they were not doing anything for a long time and 100 ball game is a fair game for retired players. Time is a factor in a competitive world and people does not have the time to spend so much time to watch a sport and hence short formats are necessary to keep the fans.
Bro, Retired cricketers tournament is schedule in India and 100 ball tournament is for current International cricketers, its schedule in England. they both are different leagues.

Sehwag and Sachin were great players in the past and age is a real thing and i do not see them perform on that level but since this tournament is for retired players i would watch the match highlights.

"Retired" no longer means retired. Playing one or two exhibition matches every two or three years is OK. But here they are planning a whole series that is going to stretch for a few weeks. Looks like the financial glitter of the T20 game proved too hard to resist for many of these oldies. Now I don't know who is going to watch these 50-year olds playing cricket.
