Samson exclusion looks odd to me, he didn't even got a chance to play a single game and considering Rishabh Pant's recent form, he surely deserved a few chances and not sure what Kedar Jadhav is doing in the ODI squad, he's 34 yo. IMO management should look out for new blood (Shubham Gill).

Looks like the Indian selectors have finalized their team for the 2020 T20 world cup, and so they may not be tempted to give chances to younger players. West Indies squad for the T20 series is not yet announced. I really hope that they'll include all the star players this time (Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Evin Lewis, Sunil Narine, Sheldon Cottrell.etc). Many of them were in action during the Abu Dhabi T10 league, and since the tournament ends today, these players should be available to play against India.

There is no doubt that India will win the series against West Indies with the bowling and the batting power India has but in the series the West Indies is bringing back their specialist players and hence it will be a really good contest. When you are selecting a players and not giving a chance to play he is not gaining any experience, they should allow the player to play a couple of matches if they are selected rather than warming the bench.

What happened to Sanju Samson was disappointing and demoralizing. The same happened to Karun Nair, when he was similarly dropped from the squad to be replaced with Hanuma Vihari. The Indian team selection is really sub-standard. Even now closeness to the officials and support from the state associations matter a lot while getting selected for the national team. The Zonal system for selectors needs to be replaced with a better system, in which the power lies with the captain.

The problem with Pant is that he’s trying very hard to replace Dhoni, and he’s putting lots of pressure on himself to perform and it’s starting to effect his natural game. In my opinion Pant can become one of the best wicket keeper in the world, but the media and the fans need to stop comparing him with Dhoni for that to happen. @SaShiRaJaVu that’s precisely the problem everyone is focused on thinking the former Indian captain cannot be replaced, but no one is focusing on allowing Pant to be himself they all want him to replicate Dhoni and this decision is backfiring on him.

Do you think having a lot of talent sometimes is not good for a team in the long run ? If the good players are not able to make the position in the team because of even more good players, then this will ruin the career of those players who are not able to make place in the team despite being well talented.
Also it will put extra pressure on the players because if they fail to perform, they will be immediately replaced.

There are players that cannot be replaced like Mathew Hayden, Ponting, Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan, Gilchrist, Kallis, Botham, Lara, Sachin and i consider Dhoni in that category, you will not find a talent like that who was performing in his prime as a captain and scoring runs and he is one of the best wicket keeper in the world and the best captain when you take into consideration the trophies won under him and probably the best finisher in cricket history.

Obviously it is not very easy to replace legendary players such as Mahendra Singh Dhoni. But as you pointed out, India is a huge country with a population of 1.4 billion, and there is no dearth of talent. When Sachin Tendulkar announced his retirement, the same argument was put forward. But then in just a few years players such as Virat Kolhi and Rohit Sharma stepped in to fill the vacuum left by Sachin. It is not right to compare two players who have played their game in different time periods facing different bowlers. But in my opinion, Virat Kohli is the best batsman India has ever produced, because he has performed consistently well against all the opponents in all types of surfaces.

This is true that you can replace the people but talent and experience cannot be replaced as they play a vital role in building a character and their presence or absence could be easily felt at some point of time if not always. Spectators will be missing big names such as Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, but given the advantage WI possess in this format we may be in for some fireworks. But their recent form worries me, as they lost a T20 series against Afghanistan this month.
