I really don't think England did face any hard competition from Afghanistan. Afghanistan never scored enough runs. And this target was always going to be chased by England. It was a little surprising to see England lose 5 wickets in that process.

But I think we all knew that eventually, England was going to be the winner of this match. The batting of Afghanistan is obviously not at the level which can play against the English bowling lineup easily.

This was the day for Ireland they played really well ,as far as batting is concerned their captain Andy Balbirnie made 62 runs (47 balls) and declared player of the match. How can you say that England could have won, if there was no rain interruption? The tail was about to start with the fall of one more wicket. Just because Moeen Ali scored a couple of boundaries, that doesn't mean that England could have reached the target with ease. All of the Irish bowlers were impressive. And Delany got the 15th over because the Irish captain wanted to bowl out the spinners before the final power play. In my opinion, Ireland had the upper hand when rain interrupted. Completely agreed with your observations. Ireland deserved this win 100%. At no point, England looked as if they are dominating the match. The only thing that went their way was missed catches by the Irish fielders. England fans are upset, because Moeen Ali made 14 runs from the first three balls of the 15th over, and that was just before the rain interruption happened. But having one good over out of a total of 35 will not get them anywhere. They (England) played poor cricket and that is the reason why they lost.
