Currently, Joe Biden is an average 5.5 points above Trump in national polling which, in my view, tells you a few things about this race.

One, an incumbent is hard to beat despite how chaotic Trump's Presidency has been so far. Joe Biden is far more popular than Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden has already received a Presidential endorsement by Obama (Hillary in 2016 did not receive an endorsement until months later) yet the lead Biden has is half of that compared to Clinton during the same time. To be fair and to give Biden a small ounce of credit, an incumbent should not be this low when polled against the front runner of the other party. In 2012 around this time, Obama led Mitt Romney by anywhere from 3-11 points in most polls. Trump is not in great shape but this isn't going to be a cake walk for Joe Biden. I know it's not entirely accurate to compare polling data across campaigns from different years because the landscape is entirely different, however, you can still draw parallels no matter the election year.

Two, Joe Biden truly is a boring candidate. Among a historically unpopular candidate like Trump, he isn't able to garner large amounts of support. I don't think democrats can pull off switching candidates at the DNC convention so Joe Biden is going to have to be it. The only way I see him gaining momentum is if he picks a good Vice Presidential candidate and my money would be on him picking Kamala Harris or Amy Klobuchar. These two are certainly leading in the betting odds and I'm interested in what you all would predict would be his pick. Either one of these two would give his campaign a bit of a lift but I'm not sure how Biden will fare against attacks regarding his cognitive decline. His VP pick can't help him with that.

Warren would be a better pick than those two but the real game changer I’ve heard mentioned of late would be Michelle Obama. If he was able to get her on board and puts up a decent debate with just a few small gaffs here and there, could easily see it swing to the Dems.  Also, making fun of Biden’s brain farts and possible dementia without mentioning Trump not being able to pronounce words over two syllables very easily and consistently  slurring words just shows a pure bias that’s obviously beyond hypocritical and discrediting.

I think they both absolutely fn suck and we US citizens are insane for allowing this two party system to continue as is. A third independent party with equal opportunity is beyond overdue.

Michelle Obama isn't going to be dark horse candidate this race -- Former President Obama already endorsed Biden and he is going to have the clear majority come whenever the DNC is having their convention. If he didn't have a clear majority, or a path to it, Bernie would still be in the race and then MAYBE a dark horse candidate could come through -- but that candidate would've been a Bloomberg type, not a Michelle Obama. At least IMO.

Warren is a useless candidate that is dishonest in her insane leftist policies who couldn't decide whether she wanted to take the progressive lane or moderate lane throughout the entirety of her campaign so she settled with adjusting her beliefs according to what would gain her votes, not because she actually believed in certain principles. She would be a liability in a general election and Trump would have a field day with her.

Secondly, Trump is not a public speaker. This is well established. When he takes pauses, repeats words/phrases, and jumbles verbiage on public policy when answering questions to the press, it's inexperience in politics and having to make up bullshit on the fly, not dementia. He isn't slurring his words like Joe Biden and he isn't mixing up his sister with his wife at campaign rallies.  I'm not oppose to a deviation from the two party system but in today's political climate, no one is going to bother trying to start a new party because they know they won't get funding. Ted Cruz was part of the tea party movement and members of that movement still caucused with Republicans because they knew they wouldn't be able to raise money any other way. Being stuck with two aging men that are barely hanging on to life isn't an ideal choice, I get it.  But if I had to pick, I'm going to support the incumbent over a candidate that is cognitively declining who couldn't even commit to running for a 2nd term because of age.

Haven't seen or heard Joe Biden talk in days, guy has literally just been off the grid. To be honest, he's probably putting out daily press releases and videos but who the hell cares when we're in a time of crisis and he can't put out a coherent sentence without just forgetting most of what he's talking about. I know people attack Trump for not being the best public speaker, and honestly in a WH press briefing setting he really isn't too good. But Biden wouldn't be better and we all know that.

This is literally the worst case scenario for Biden. Typically right now everyone is uniting around their candidate, but no one cares because of this crisis and they're looking to the current administration to continue to help.

It could actually be a good thing for him.

He rarely opens his mouth and says something that gets everyone hyped to vote and often make the democrats just shake their head.  Then again, Obama will probably be holding his hand and be the main event from here on out when/if any actual rallies happen before Nov.

Bernie has been making a bunch of appearances and probably has more influence over the election than Biden at this point.

She's also old and boring, but hey, she's a woman, and a lot of dem voters at this point need something to get excited about. And that thing is a first woman VP, and a first woman P if Biden croaks (which, let's admit, is a real possibility in the next 4 years).

She also has name recognition which Harris and Klobuchar don't really have (even though they were also in contention for a while).

As far as the election is concerned, let's hope they scrap the debates. Biden would get trounced by Trump. And I'm saying this as someone who thinks Trump is somewhat retarded.

The best thing Biden has going for him is he's not Hillary Clinton. He's somewhere between a bag of cheese sitting in the sun and Hillary Clinton as far as electability is concerned, and that may just be enough to win the presidency of the most powerful nation on earth, given who he is up against.

I think Trump could take all 50 states, I really do.  I know it's highly unlikely, but it really wouldn't surprise me.  Remember California used to be very much a red state 40 to 50 years ago, and like all pendulums it's only a matter of time before they swing the other way.  With Biden being more gaff-prone than ever, the lack of publicity in this unique, unprecedented election year, and with his inability to gain any momentum as a leader during this pandemic, nothing short of Jesus Christ (or Michelle Obama?) as a running mate could help him.

Kamala Harris would be a nail in the coffin, in my opinion.  Here on the ground in California, her home state, many people are getting tired of her blatantly partisan nasally voice.   If she's tiresome to her own constituents before finishing one term as Senator, how can we expect her to lure voters from other parts of the country.  There's really no upside to selecting her, the Democrats are sure they have California (and the whole west coast) in the bag anyway.

Elizabeth Warren wouldn't be much better.  I believe America got tired of her fiscally impossible strategies, her base is small, she alienated the Bernie Bros, and again, her home state is very likely a shoe-in for the Democrats anyway.  So, yet again very little to no upside.

In all honesty, I don't see any of the primary candidates as likely to help Biden's efforts in any way.  

On the other hand, Trump has been front and center for months now, and it's not looking like that'll slow down any time soon.  Love him or hate him, agree with his policies or not, he's been working his ass off to mitigate the damage of this pandemic.  He has a free spot light, every day, for hours.  Even his critics can't help but commend him.  His Task Force team is mostly respected and revered, and even Pence is looking like a better leader than Biden.

The smart thing for Democrats to do would be first to ask themselves "why do I think I'm a democrat, and what is a democrat, anyway."

Yeah he watched on presentation on how long the virus lasts on doorknobs or counters in various conditions when he suddenly had an idea.  We know the virus doesn't last as long with light or clorox or lysol - so...just put the light or clorox or lysol inside someone who's infected.

Well, everybody has a weak side, the aspect of interupting & replying to questions in an unexpected manner could be a weakness. But, i think is a hard working President who is working toward's resolving the pandermic issue without any compromise with chineese.

Trump is truly horrible in a press briefing environment, obviously moreso when he goes off script. If he'd just accept that he doesn't know everything, and that's fine, he'd be alright -- but he's hellbent on proving that he knows more about the virus then the experts. Not sure what he thinks is to gain from doing so. Defer to the experts and stay on script and you'll be fine.
