Hey Phil... did I see you mention recently that you are still mining XMR?  If so, can I assume you are doing so with CPUs not GPUs?  Mining calculators indicate GPU-mining of XMR at a loss, even given it's recent price increase so I assume you are using other methods.  If using CPUs, would you mind sharing which you are using and their results?

i have two thread rippers

3960x.  does 22-24k

3970x.  does 27-29k

i have four amd 9 3900x. they do 11k each.

the six rigs all have two gpus.  some 5500xt some 5700xt some 1660 some 1660ti a 1080ti

these all mine xmr and eth at nicehash and i convert to btc.

they dont make much money as they are in my home. power is high,  but in the winter they will heat the house and power is cheaper.  I also can sell a rig or two down the road.

frankly i have been really tied up this year with a ton of real world 🌍 problems.

literally started  on new years eve. wife and i got sick maybe covid-19 maybe not.

she turned into double pneumonia and is still struggling with lung damage and an endless post nasal drip.

going on eight months.
then the lockdown
then the storm less week

I am having trouble keeping up with crypto and real world shit.

but at least gear is making money 💵😀!

Wife has just done some xrays a cat scan and sputum tests.

the good is no active infections. some lung scarring but good oxidation into blood.

next step is new treatments for her post nasal drip.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Wow Phil, really sorry to hear about those health issues, especially with your wife.  I wish you and her the best for recovery and to stay safe and healthy!  These are certainly different times where priorities are completely different vs even 6 months ago for most people.  I'm glad for this crypto rebound and hope that it holds as (aside from the financial benefit), it has been a nice distraction from a some really bad things going on in the world.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback on the XMR CPU mining.  I don't think its a legit option for me as I really only have 1 higher end CPU (on my main PC, not a miner).  Most of the rest of Intel G3000 series, which i don't think will do much on XMR.

the problem with smos is you habe to premod your cards, you can’t use claymore straps

That particular issue is not a problem for me since I already BIOS-modded-strapped all of my RX 470's.

However, I was just about to download the SMOS image and flash to my USB stick when i read on their site that this does not currently support Wi-Fi?!?!  Is that correct?

That will be a problem for me as all my rigs are wi-fi based and spread throughout my house  to spread the heat out.

then do just 1 rig with it.
i take back what i said, the newer versions of smos allow you to use the amd memtweak tool on the fly the strap your cards like what claymore does.  Its up to you to find the right straps and it seems you also will want to match card memory at the least so the straps work for all card in a rig.  Trying it now with my vegas and it works like a charm

I recently got all my remaining vegas 64 and 56 up and running - 47mhs at 110watts with the recommended memtweaks using TRM miner...

about wifi, dev say soon its in the works otherwise the ethernet over powerplug solution will work too.

Get well soon to your wife Phil.

I still have 1070ti GPUs to revive and dust off from the storeroom.

I have given up on 470s and 1060/P106-100.... on ETH its off by 10-20% of their usual peak hash rates - the DAGs have pretty much maxed on the 470/4gb and barely on the 1060/p106 with 6GB. Their power consumption vs hash, has not been profitable after electricity expenses.... maybe put them to work for BEAM or KAWPOW or ETH/TeamRedMiner (RX470/480) to overcome the 4gb barrier...

There very old cards like 390s and Fury Minis, retired long time ago, dont know what mining there will be good for. Too bad because the 390s have 8gb and HBM memory, and 4gb HBM for the Fury

take a look at beam III for fury they can do ~20 sols 390s are not that far ~17 sols..390s might be better at ethash.

Thank you we see the next doctor Aug 24.

I need to keep her isolated as she is now higher risk for getting sick.

So I am doing real world shit quite a bit.
Along with crypto-coins.

It has been a long haul for me this year.

Back on topic

I have one board xmr rig acting up not sure why.
But it just shuts down after an hour of mining.

I need to look at it more closely.

I suspect it is a bit toasted from the storm last week.

I will look to see what bios it is on and maybe flash a newer one.

My gpus/cpus are earning 1500 a month before power
My asics are earning 2600 a month before power

my net is 400 gpu/cpu
my net is 700 asics

just hoping for a nice long 6 month run.

with the numbers rising.

10-15% over 2080ti that's 30% from 1080ti! besides it is not just about the cores, lately it is about the vrams, gddr5x to gddr6 to gddr6x..

Vrams in a not so distant past proved to be a  good investment  fury HBMs  was good but the 4gb made it suck in the mid -long term. Gddr5x also turned out to be good investment even with the gddr5 warriors from 1070 fans going around here hehe

Wow. Seems with ETH price hitting $400 and ETH miners fees being essentially triple due to the huge ETH fees, it seems many are dusting off their GPU rigs and powering them on again.

I tried to do the same and basically ran into the 4GB DAG issue on my RX 470 GPUs from 2016.

Anyone know if they will work on Ubuntu? Rather not use SMOS since I need to use Wifi.

Well this looks pretty good for me.

https://www.nicehash.com/my/miner/33MP6oHLGnnrVAf1hC3WV2RBXZ2HNsexYw

1300 a month lots of power cost

so maybe I get 500.  Considering it is all paid off gear I am not going to complain.

Looks like i have to go clean my Furys and 390s, and get them to mine again.... at low intensity to save on power and point them to Nicehash.

I was stumped a while ago when my current rigs total around 1gh/s ETH was paying 90-95$ at NH!

Not likely. Price recently increased and manufacture discontinued.
Also likely a hint at 3000 pricing.

this is the part where some will hesitate to buy cards and some are waiting to sell their cards..both will own cards later on   Grin

vrams..

6gb are the 3gb in the past
8gb are the 4gb in the past

10-11gb are the 8gb in the past

we can say that 10-11gb are still safe because, look a at the 8gb cards now..you can upgrade now and the vram size didn't get in the way. But if the price is right 16gb is the way to go. I think 24gb might ask for too much premium...we'll see.
