Is bitmain giving out coupons still???
maybe you should try to PM Bitmain in this forum
or just email them (website)

hope they'll give you, so you can purchase S2 for $1255

Any progress on the p2pool compatibility fix yet Bitmain?

i got alot of discarded. is it normal?

Yes, the S2 manages to create a high amount of discarded shares.

edit: I could have swore I stumbled across a calculator that included discard calculations, but can't seem to find it just yet...

i read somewhere that kano has produced a much better FW but i havent seen or heard from anyone using it..yet

can you post a link?

This is my first real post here and I feel I should offer my contributions and findings to help the community...after all we are one...and there does not seem to be a lot of concise information regarding this miner...so here is my attempt to sort things out and help  Grin
I have been using both the Kano and stock bitmain firmware...hate to say but the bitmain FW needs a LOT of work still..such as miner taking 4 minutes to restart...certain miners always seem to restart after 15-20 mins then are ok for days....I have my S2 mixed between both firmware and am torn on the results...1 S2 with 6/19 firmware found a block so Im happy about that.. Cheesy

You can get the Kano firmware here:
https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer-binaries/tree/master/AntS2

With Kano firmware miner just seems way more responsive ...to be expected considering who he is...and hats off to you Kano for all of your contributions !!!
its kinda like using S1 with kano magic...nice touch to see a block found indicator on screen and more accurate temperature reading for starters...it even says "upgrade is successed" when the firmware upgrades..I don't know how that simple thing got passed by for the firmware upgrades by bitmain...all the screen does is HANG during upgrade and all you can do is WAIT
I eagerly await the next version which is supposed to address p2pool issues
Right now I am just trying to make sense of the chip timeouts (I gave up trying to figure out at what point the QC passed sticker was put on the case but my guess is when it was empty)....I wouldn't recommend overclocking these boards unless you upgrade the PSU..especially with the horrible job bitmain does of grease (see for yourself what hides under that heatsink...worse thing I have ever seen...but back on topic)...this is with all boards cleaned and re-greased PROPERLY...what a difference  Roll Eyes Right now the biggest thing I see is the amount of rejected shares...seems to depend how the S2 boots up...sometimes I see a ridiculous amount of rejected shares at startup..other times its ok...there is a lot more at play here than meets the eye but Im working on figuring it out....I have 8 S2 and they are all different...in every way from fans to case to boards... 4 batches? I think not...
All S2 have had PSU replaced with EVGA 1300
Using 215 Clock I am hitting 1.1TH according to miner and pool anywhere from .2% to .5% HWE
It would be nice if Bitmain could take a minute and actually put a proper config file in the S2 rather than a cheap hack of the S1 asic-freq file ...all that shows to me is the lack of time and effort taken by the manufacturer...how hard is it to put chip values in the proper range...400MHz with those heatsinks...really  Huh
I see different timeout recommendations in almost every thread..the only one that is constant is 40....but that seems to be the worst chip timeout of all..at least for the clock speeds and output I am looking for...
Enermax PSU may be good for 220v...but rather poor efficiency for 110v after all they test in Europe with 220v not North America...I asked for 110v cables which should be included in North American shipments by default but that made no difference....no matter when REPLACING THE STRAINING STOCK PSU with 14AWG cable at same time
One last thing...what does that white piece of paper with Chinese symbols and numbers that ships in the box mean??? I hope it is not important as I cannot understand it...English would be of great help there ...something to do with the order of the plugs on the board and PSU connectors perhaps...moot point with single rail PSU Huh

I see Bitmain has released some useful info regarding S3...why don't we have this type of info for S2...is it due to PSU limitations with stock config? I hope so
Can we get some similar info for the S2

THESE ARE S3 values DO NOT USE ON S2

I've been curious about that as well, and have tagged the timeout variable for additional research.  What timeout have you been using on your machines?

I am experimenting between 37-39 right now and 39 and 38 seem to give the best output so far...hard to tell in less than 48 hours...it seems some boards can handle 38 timeout better than others...not sure if we can use decimals like S3 but I don't see why not..also with some timeout hashrate starts high but drops after a day or vice versa..not sure if that is just a flaw in the firmware overall...
All units have .5 or .6% reject

At the standard frequency, my S2 slowly clocks down to ~950 in 24 hours.  After underclocking it to frequency 193 it immediately levels out at ~ 975 in a few hours, and is more resilient to rebooting or restarting cgminer.  I've not changed the timing, but would be happy to test them out with you if I could assist.  That said, these machines are very unlike the S1's (finicky to say the least) and what works well with one may not work well on another.

thx macgyver!!

u can upload screenshots/images on imgurl and copy the IMG codes in here to post.

im so glad u posted, i knew there was someone in the world who actually cared about these s2's

i have 4 and like yours they are ALL different, boards, cases, lids, even down to the 'buzzers' different tones/volumes...

the only constant is the shit psu and the high error rate..

Are you using the stock PSU? If so that is most likely the cause....getting 1000+W out of a 1000W PSU...well.....whose bright idea was that to begin with  Huh all I can think is such a mass amount of potential in a box with a few gears missing...PSU is the weakest link...but on that note I can run 9 boards at 215 with no reboots using the DIY S2 kit and stock PSU...what great fun  Grin torture for the PSU at any rate....never mind the efficiency which went out the window at 85% MAX
as for what working well with one not working well on the other...tell me about it  Smiley I think that is largely due to the random wondrous thermal grease application which boggles the mind...Im sure there was some kind of connect the dot game at the plant using thermal grease..some boards I have even have some autographs on them instead of grease I assume from the winners  Huh...I wonder if they were so good they didn't need any...why else would they be signed  Shocked
Regarding some miners resetting to default config...well I had 3 SD cards which did that...I snapped the first one after it failed to save the config for the Huh time after reflashing/imaging/ plug and mine  Roll Eyes that I chalked up to all 3 having a smaller amount of available space which I found out after trying to re-image them with working SD card images from the other 4GB junk ...they didn't fit on the "faulty" cards for some reason...even the SD cards are different between machines...those are in the bin anyways class 4 cards belong there in 2014 in my opinion...4MB/s wow watch out...I replaced all SD cards with Kingston Class 10 microSD which are more than double the speed and work just great...if you can find smaller class 10 than 8GB go for it but for the $7 I didn't care...
Last of all...don't mess with any of this unless you know what you are doing...I wont take responsibility for anything that happens...unless its a good thing then a thank you will do  Grin

Just wondering if its worth buying one of these? With the current difficulty it seems the ROI would take a pretty long time before making any real profit.

It's not profitable anymore. Even with price of 1640$ it's not worth it at the prices of bitcoin less than 700$.

Not that this should come as a surprise, but I asked Bitmain about the launch date of the S4 and they wouldn't give any details... but they did refer to it as the "S4" - so at least we know we're calling it by the right name  Wink

Also, $1499 $1489 now on Amazon
