The SP10 is such a crappy deal compared to the Antminer S2

Yep, their reluctance (or greed) to reduce the price while everyone was pissed off with BM has cost them greatly. What's better, sell 1 miner for $500 profit or 10 miners for $200 profit... spondoolies definitlely missed the boat here...

Curious how you both think the S2 is a better deal

Price
S2:    $2359, 1000GH = $2.36 per GH
SP10: $2795, 1400GH = $2.00 per GH

Power
S2:    1000 GH, 1000W = 1w/GH
SP10: 1400 GH, 1200W = 0.85w/GH

PS Both are beaten on price by the A1 clones, which can be had for around $1800, or $1.80 per GH (if only all the dealers weren't sketchy)
Does the Spondoolies price include shipping?

I also heard that the 1.4TH/s is very dependent on your power setup, but I haven't checked in to the accuracy of this claim.

its close to $200 to ship the SP10, and realistic values are closer to 1.25TH on 120V and 1.4TH on 208/240V. It is also the volume of a blow dryer when running. The design itself and the efficiency is terrific on it though Smiley   DC usage with 208V is ideal

Don't happen to have a voucher the deal gets better.

Not many indeed because there were not alot of buyers for the latest s2, and those that have them are waiting to see if there is a dramatic price drop this week or next.  So their coupons might be in addition to another 200-300

$400 voucher and/or bitmain will work with you. You could cook breakfast on the SP10 and it howls like a banshee … definitely begs for a DC home which is an additional expense.

When people say that the rig is pulling 1050 they mean using their watt-o-meter, all the slightly lower efficiency means is that it pulls a few Watts more from the wall.

1050 watts at the wall in the case of the PSU on the S2 would mean its probably providing 916W to the miner (87.3% efficient) in fact in order to provide 1000W to the miner it would be pulling 1154W from the wall  Shocked

My kill-a-watt reports just on ~ 9 amps on a US 120v circuit for the S2, when cranking ….

It could be that you may be able to overclock the S2 with a better power supply, but from the people who I have seen try it you only get a measly 10% increase and at the risk of much higher HW errors. These aren't Jupiters that you can push to 50-60% overclocks, the entire design ethos around the S2 is different, these are basically underclocked S1 antminers crammed into a single box. I think the backplanes and power components on the boards just aren't built to handle more power higher currents.

I'll second this observation. Seems like the limiting factor is the number of VRMs per asic chip on the boards, not the backplanes or other components. I tried it at 225 mhs with an evga 1300 and ran into high H/W errors.

Wierd problem with my S2:

slot#1 does not hash (ever!-no green light blinking)

moving boards around did not help
using a brand new powerboard did not help
even connecting fans to a neighboring set of pins did not help (one set is free in my miner)
reconnecting beaglebone, ethernet cable did not help
making sure that all PCIE connectors are tight did not help
reimaging the microSD card did not work
connecting new power supply with all-new PCIE cables did not help

the only thing not done yet is updating the firmware (which is already current, dated 4/10/14).

Any suggestions? this is a crazy problem to have, and it wasn't fixed by a new powerboard as I hoped. i am out of ideas.
The other 9 boards/blades are hashing

Any suggestions?

I did it without discounts to make it an even playing field (though I did forget shipping sorry, last one I bought had free shipping). There are very few vouchers available for the S2 and it's possible to get a discount on the SP10, but ok lets work it out that way with disounts/vouchers

S2:  $1959, 1000GH, $1.95 per GH
SP10: $2620, 1400GH, $1.87 Per GH

Lower w/GH also increases the lifespan of the product.

SP10: $2620, 1400GH, $1.87 Per GH

SP10: $2620, 1400GH, $1.87 Per GH   SP10 $2888  1400GH/s =$2.06 Per GH

when I bought some of the S2 , every time I got the coupon. Bitmaintech writes- Returning customers please check your account for coupons.
Spondoolies-Tech gave me a 5% coupon, which could not be used.

I do not ever buy any of the SP-10 . I sold  the SP10 , and I am happy . The ears are resting.

Hashing 1.48TH/s which shows the SP-10, eligius and btcguild haschrate was barely 1380GH/s and the actual cost of electricity was 1350W

2x Antminer S2  in BTCGUILD
1,010.99 GH/s
1,012.81 GH/s

Lower w/GH also increases the lifespan of the product.

The lifespan of the S2 increases,  because they are
Upgradable
All AntMiner S2 and S2 kit will be adapted to the Hash Boards with next generation chips. Clients can freely choose the upgrade version Hash Boards to replace the ones in hands.

I don't see how this saves a lot of money if you need all new boards and chips. Only the motherboard is reused??

You normally get 1450 GH on sp10s, so you should probably calculate with that.

You also get around 0,85 - 0,9W/GH on sp10s, compared to 1,1W/GHs with s2s.

I have to agree that it will probably only save you around 10-20% when you will be able to switch out the blades, as the only savings are in not having to buy another PSU and motherboard.

Oh, sp10s come with PSUs and readily assembled, compared to the "new" S2 kits.

The upgrade Could be another half step up with new boards with more chips and under volted more. That's why they leave psu to customer.

Next next phase is newer chip design?
