207 for 10 is a very low score as only 122 runs to chase and by now England must be already planning their strategy for tomorrow to save their dignity. All hopes again on Murtagh to get the wickets but I'm still impressed by Ireland to manage a tough fight against England in their own homeland. Looked just like an ODI today with 20 wickets falling and the first innings getting over so soon.

Ireland did well under the circumstances 207 is not a bad score, considering that England now need to score 122 runs first and then set a target for Ireland. Murtagh has impressed everyone with his bowling, and England’s batsmen had no clue on how to deal with him. If he continues getting wickets England will be in trouble, and Ireland will be able to defeat England in their own home ground.

It's just a first day and Ireland playing his first inning in this test. We have second inning as well for England and Ireland, so the match is not going to finish today if Ireland reach the 85 runs target

Oh yeah, I forgot about second innings too. So after they get 85, they'll continue to play till they all get out. Then England bat to chase the runs (if any) and/or put runs on the board and Ireland again chase. Am I right? Last I saw a test match was in 2014 where England were playing with a score of 500+ against India I guess. :-P

England would not mind 1 wicket down after 1st session. If this happens, then the situation could be dicey for the Irish Team.

Just read an article related to Murtagh and am impressed with the way he can swing the ball like famous bowlers. Never knew him before, but I will definitely remember him now.

It seems that Strauss wanted him to play for England, but he ended up choosing the Ireland side and we can see the results now. This guy has tremendous potential. Ireland continues to amaze though they lack consistency.

One wicket after 1 wicket will be great for English as Jack Leach is a bowler only. But I think that will not be easy for English. Ireland, especially the allrounder Murtagh will hit again. However, if this match gets a result, that will be on the Irish side I think. I wish they get their maiden test win.

Damn. Not surprising at all though. Morgan himself is an Irish citizen and he is the first captain to have successfully led England to World Cup glory. Its pretty smart of England to recruit such talented individuals and unite them under a single nation.

You do not need visa and passport to go from one state to another. It's like the stats in USA. I think there needs to be only one team. Team Britain.

Anyway back to the match, England has a careful start in their 2nd innings. They are still 101 runs behind but they still have 10 wickets left. I think if England can score can give a 150+ runs lead to chase for Ireland then game on. I do not think Ireland will be able to score more than 150 runs in the 4th innings. It's always hard to bat in 4th innings.

They are hitting 4s back-to-back and they are making it look more like an ODI or may be they are desperate for winning this game to prove they are real champions now. At this stage, a total of 450+ is an easy target as I don't feel Ireland will be able to chase 300+ runs. Yesterday, except for one batsman who scored 50, the others lost their wickets easily.

After losing their first wicket at 26 runs, seems like Leach is trying to put pressure on the bowlers. I hope it works well and he does not lose his wicket. So far he is looking good.

He is doing that he was asked for. Perfect job for a nigh watchman.

I remember in a one day match or in a test cricket, Robin sign in Indian team were called to open or in one down. Man! He scored a century and saved the match. I think it was against Pakistan and most provably in a ODI match where India were chasing a 300+ runs. Those days 300+ chasing means you are 100% in the losing side. It was not that easy to chase 300+ like these days.

After embarrassment in first inning now England is much happier side as they have 89 for 1 Leach complete his first test half century and Roy is also looking good Partnership of 65 in just 12 overs mean they are attacking Irish bowling now surely they are going something 400+ and securing win because its very important for them before Ashes.

Well I will blame England for their stupidity in the first innings. They must be taking Irish bowlers very lightly and they paid for it. Now are are seeing the real England and hopefully they will win this test. They need to get some confidence before Ashes if they want to perform good against Australia.

Still 4 days to go, it's the 2nd day now. I don't like the aggressive batting from both, specially Roy. It's test match but he is hitting like chasing 350+ in ODI. The match is still in Irish hand if they can take some earlier wickets.

They played like West Indies during their 1st innings, but this turn around at the moment is awesome. Roy is on a roll again and he can take the game away on his own if he continues playing like this.

With many capable batsmen remaining, I think this is England's game all the way now. What a surprising turn of events.

Two has been down but I'm wondering Jack Leach is going to have a century who was only sent yesterday to complete the day without losing an important wicket. This match is really interesting. May be England will get more than 350 easily from this situation.

3 gone now. Murtagh back in action and now with two new batsmen on the crease, they will again need time to settle down and get runs. A 70-80 run partnership is required now to get a score above 300 else they will all tumble before putting up even 200 runs on the board.

Well, along with Joe Root, Moeen Ali needs to make some room for a partnership with Root. The captain can only play a nice inning if there's someone present on the other end to support him.

In this thread we will discuss about international Test cricket. I guess it was a community demand from long ago. The first time I noticed it when we had this world cup prediction pool.

@royse and everyone : guys do you think that we need dedicated thread for test cricket? If yes then some senior member please open new thread for "Test cricket "  main thread doesn't look good with big flag and spam.

The topic is self moderated to prevent spam.
