Had a quick look at schedule and point system, that's what I don't like it about this Championship.

1. One Team playing 22 test Match and some team playing an only 13-14 match. Point system makes sense in this scenario.

2. Some teams not even playing against stronger opponents - Not balanced if it World Test Championship.-

3. Irregularities in Home and Away matches ( some playing less in home and some playing more) - Point system makes sense in this scenario.

As usual ICC doing some very poor things for this Test Championship and going with own favorite teams they need to review all this after completing first championship and give more equal basis chance to all teams for more public interest otherwise this could be useless World Test Championship.

What will happen in case of a rain induced draw? For example, if a weak team like Sri Lanka or West Indies is playing against a strong team like Australia or India, and if the match gets washed out, how the points will be split? Giving both the teams equal points don't make any sense as far as I am concerned. IMO, the higher ranked team must be awarded a larger share of points.

1. No it does not. Those who playing 13 match, they already lost the points they would be able to manage from the 9 more matches
2. Correct
3. The home team always have advantage in test cricket so yes they will win and get more points.

Anyway, it may not be a perfect tournament but it's a start of something new.

1. No, No teams lost any point match. Teams playing less match getting compensate by higher point system.

Each series will be worth 120 points. Hence, if it is a 2-match Test series, a win will fetch 60 points, and if it is a 5-match series, a win will fetch 24 points.

A tie will be allocated half the points for a win, while a draw will be allocated one-third of the points for a win.

3. Yes, Home team gets advantage but there is no such thing more points.

And it appears to me no solid info about - If Final turn out to be draw or get washed- ESPNcricinfo saying different thing ( pointed by @erikalui HERE and the source i mentioned presenting different scenario. Guess we have to wait for ICC official announcement for this.

I am betting on India as they are the highest ranked team in cricket so just hoping they keep their form going. But still hope they make changes. Pant is better batting as an opener rather than Rahul. Rahul is better at 4-5th position.

Looking forward to today's test between Eng and Aus. Cheering for England as Aus will not win in England land.

It is really tough trying to predict what could happen after 2 freaking years especially since players can change through various matches based on their performances and the lineup might not be the same one till the end.

Pant is better batting as an opener rather than Rahul. Rahul is better at 4-5th position.

Pant is still a newbie when it comes to test cricket in my opinion and has a lot to prove over time. Pujara will probably continue his great form through out the tournament and he is the main player to watch in Team India.

Okay, finally the first test is in progress. Not watching the match but following the scores. After winning the toss Australia  elected to bat but seems like they did execute the plan. They lost two wickets in 17 runs. Bancroft and Warner gone! England got early break for sure but it's too early to say anything about the result of this test.

If I am asked to pick a team then I will go for Australia to win in 4th day (if there are no rain interruption) :-P

Cheering for England as Aus will not win in England land.

Australia's winning record in England is not that bad. Here is just a scan:

Different audience different viewpoints.

IMHO choosing a single team as a winner, in the end, sounds perfectly logical to me. Because this Championship is going to run for full 2 years, and every team has an equal chance (more or less ). to top the point table, Every Team need to play all-round cricket for 2 years and its no easy task, that's why I would like to see the following system in the Final which scheduled in Lords.

Its Way too early for Winner prediction - India is strong contender along with Australia and England.

Pant is suitable for Middle order and if its up to me then will kick the Rahul from Test team for good 2-3 years but Prithvi shaw is facing a ban due to his carelessness ( Doping test failed), so Rahul is in team as an opener along with Mayank Agarwal ( Indians can try Hanuma Vihari as an opener too)

Umpiring is so bad these days, so many wrong decision, Warner was out when not given, when he given out, it was not out.
1st day 1st session always so much movement for bowlers and difficult for batsmen, we will know real pitch after lunch, and if Australia play well in middle session, they will be ahead in test, these days there is not much high scoring test, so around 300 will be enough for fight back in test.

England was looking very good when Australia lost their third wicket at 35 runs. Now Smith and Head is doing the job to recover the damage. Looking good at 75 for three but if Australia lose anymore wicket then they will be in real trouble.

I am just following the score. But yes the Umpiring issue is going pathetic these days. Imagine if there were no technology, we would have seen worse. In the entire world cup we have seen messed up umpiring. We have seen some bad decision in Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka series too.

Broad and slip fielders didn't appealed when Warner edged. only Bairstow thought he heard something, even he was not sure when Joe root asked him.  Umpire was Aleem Dar, i have seen much worst decision from Mr Dar and its not one of them

Having said that i agree that Umpiring standard is going down the hill in recent time.

One must admit that first session was not for Australia. Still they are in the process of recovering their innings. In the 2nd session they will need to ensure that they do not lose more than 2 wickets but if they do not lose any wicket then they will be in a strong position.

Australia needs to ensure that they manage 300+ runs in their first innings.

Sad news indeed. He has a ton of potential too, but the good thing is that the BCCI approved his evidence and he will probably serve a minor ban until November. Players need to be a lot more careful in this regard.

300+? I highly doubt it. Once they lose Smith, I doubt they will even reach 250 thanks to some spectacular bowling by England. The umpiring standards seriously need to improve though since I felt like Warner was not out.

It's not whether Pant is a newbie or not but Pant is in form while Rahul isn't as per his recent records.

Match stats: Australia is already 92 for 3 so looks like 270-280 all out would be safe for England to chase down if Smith and Head can reach a partnership of 100 (currently 60+). They were quick in getting runs  else 35 for 3 looked like another another low scoring game.

England were great in breaking the partnership which is important in even test matches. Don't think the captain would manage to remain till the end of the day. The Top 5 of Australia did not even manage to make 50 runs.

Never expected such low score. I just have checked the score. Despite Australia having played such a good batsman, they failed to have a good score.
Broad and Woakes have taken 4 and 3 wickets respectively, impressive.

You are right, even the team should give preference to the people who are giving good performances in previous matches. You are right Pant is still a newbie to test cricket matches but in his previous test matches with England, he made century again England.

Aussies lost seventh wicket but we can say poor decisions costing them as technology is improving but umpiring is going down badly now time for ICC to act and have some better of this technology for fair and entertaining cricket otherwise this is going to be more disaster as we already have one of worst result for World Cup final.
