This will be the next decisive game this week for Real Madrid, after in the previous game they were held to a draw by Real Betis and it had a bad enough impact to close the distance from Barcelona on the standings. I still have a bit of doubt if Real Madrid can win or not in this game, given the latest news saying that Benzema has an injury but it's not serious enough and in the match against Espanyol later Benzema is likely to be absent and may be available again in the second leg match later against Liverpool for the UCL competition. It looks like Ancelotti is running out of options for strikers and it is likely he will field Mariano Diaz or Eden Hazard to replace Benzema in this week's game.

With the current conditions, like it or not, Madrid must be able to score points in this match because if not, I think it is certain that the trophy this time will be in the hands of their rival Barcelona.
Madrid's condition is really a little bad now so this is one of the games they have to win because 3 points will obviously be very good for them regardless of anything especially looking at Barcelona right now even though they will also face Bilbao I think the chance of 3 points is still big for they.

Atletico Madrid haven't lost a single match in the league since losing against Barcelona. It has been eight weeks I mean and this is pretty impressive. While they aren't having a good season at all they really needed this to improve their morale more. In this way they can at least consolidate their presence in top four. They have already left Real Sociedad behind and taken the third place in the standings thanks to a good form. But they are far away from a title race at the same time.

While Atletico Madrid have a really good squad quality like this they should be able to enter the title race easily. Simeone will be criticized a lot about this at the end of the season as well. Not only for this of course. They were horrible in the Champions League as well.

That is what they are playing for, the Champions League qualifiers and that's it. They have been losing too many points early on in the season and it took then quite a while to stabilize their defensive game, actually the strength that they are usually known for.

Now the distance is too big and there is no realistic chance for them to get close to Barcelona anymore. The Copa del Rey is also over for them and now it is all about defending the 3rd or 4th rank against Villareal and Betis.

The team is quite good I think and they could perform better than this. Not sure if they are going to do much on the transfer market for next season.

Who would have imagine that Villareal will be on 6th place in LaLiga after such a devastating start of the season with defeats in a row and draws in a row that really dragged them down but after a while they start to find again that pace from last season and look where they are now...back on European spots like they are used to.  

Villarreal's current standings are pretty good, it's nice to see them in the top 6 teams. But their fixtures in the coming weeks are quite difficult, their opponents will usually be strong teams. They have matches of Real Sociedad, Real Betis, Real Madrid and Osasuna ahead of us. All of these teams are pretty close to Villarreal and they are strong teams
That's why I think their ranking in the league will change. Villarreal will lose a few matches again

Villarreal were a dark horse in previous seasons and they were one of the clubs with a pretty good defense when Emery was there.
The start of this season was like a transitional period for them with Quique Setién becoming the new coach but it seems Quique Setién has found good momentum to improve their performance so that they can become one of the dark horse clubs again, at least for now their position is still safe and they can still return to the euro zone with the current point conditions.

To strengthen Real Madrid position in current standings they must to get three points in that match, considering that their position is also not very good at the moment they are losing points to be closer with Barcelona there. Espanyol is also not a too strong opponent for Real Madrid and on paper Real Madrid can get a win even without Benzema, regarding the injured of Benzema I'm sure this is Ancelotti strategy to rest him so he can get a good performance in the match vs Liverpool.

Moreover, Benzema is so old, on the other hand it is also possible to save his energy for the second leg against Liverpool. But I hope Ancelotti this time must be right in concocting strategy and not underestimate easy opponents too much because this is an important point for the Los Blancos squad.

Benzami is old but he is experienced too, also he is a dynamic forward which means he won't stay in the box and wait for the ball to finish it he also helps the teams with other rules like a midfielder and this needs a lot of stamina and that's what Benzema have even if he is 35 I guess he still got enough stamina for playing in La Liga and champions league but still Ancelotti can give him some rest and keep him fresh.

Yes you're right, Benz is a dynamic striker although his old but he is still fresh and become the most important player for Ancelotti. But he also gets injured too often, because he is a dynamic player which often make troubles Real Madrid opponents, Benz contract is also end this season and I hope Real Madrid can find a dynamic player like Benz for next season. Because next season for title competition will probably be difficult in La Liga, aside from Barcelona we have Real Betis and Real Sociedad which are getting stronger as well as Atletico Madrid already returned to their best performance.

Look at the results of Barcelona, that is really a lot of meager victory. Often 1-0 results, few goals against but also very few scored. I'm surprised to see real Madrid slag that much and on the other hand, it seems benzema haven't been endowed with so many good luck to rescue them, just as the way he does normally.
Even though the win for Barcelona against Madrid was a narrow one, I wasn't expecting something of such, mostly in a period where they had to win matches to get to the top....so appalling. It seems Ancelloti has less interest in the Laliga trophy and more interest in the Champions league trophy this season, it is obvious from the way they have being performing in their league games there is a lot of difference in their performances compared to champions league games.
