Many of those 26 soldiers are from Lugansk and Donetsk and don't support the Kiev coup government. They laid their weapons down and went over to the Russian territory. All weapons and ammunition was destroyed by the soldiers prior to abandoning the base - they put everything into a truck and blew it up.
The resistance is digging in, using the experience of North Korea - deep-earth constructions, that can withstand artillery hits. Slavjansk is still without water and sewage - the pipeline is damaged on the part, controlled by Ukrainian Army, who don't allow the repair crews in. |

If Putin will turn his back to eastern Ukraine it will be interesting to see how the people there will see mother Russia. Probably a 180 opinion change.
Never mind Russians in Novorossia... I am more worried about how the Russians in Russia will see Putin. Levada opinion polls show that the majority (over 70%) is for armed help to Novorossia. I guess it all depends on what Poroshenko does after the 7th.Those 70% can be easily won by economical reforms or increase in health care assistance or wages or god knows what are the urgent needs of the average Russian citizens. The guys fighting for the independence in "Novorossia" (??) will not be won over again without a military intervention or supply lines. What is supposed to happen after or on the 7th? |

Few photos from Lugansk:  This picture is very disturbing. This is Yevgeniy, a 8-month old kid, who is suffering from cerebral palsy. He is in serious condition and is being treated in the Slavyansk children's hospital. However, a few days ago the hospital was shelled and damaged by the government forces. All the other patients were evacuated, but this kid could not be evacuated sue to his serious condition. This kid (Yevgeny Esekyan) was today evacuated from the hospital in Slavyansk. He is suffering from Werdnig-Hoffmann disease, a rare form of spinal muscular atrophy, and can't breathe on his own. On Friday he is expected to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin at World War Two D-day celebrations in France, a potentially awkward encounter given Moscow's strong criticism of Kiev's use of force to quell pro-Russian rebellions in eastern Ukraine. Wonder how this will go , like the other reunion?  |
