First, you may wish to have a look at Dogie’s review on BitcoinTalk, he has done a tear down of the miner and has quite some expertise in the physical characteristics of hardware and I am not going to try to replicate his findings.

The objective is to get the machine up and running ASAP, what could it be 1 or 2 or 3 days to generate coin to cover the cost of freight?

Just checked most shipping options quickly

1. FedEx 2 day service is indeed 800 dollars, no slower service offered than that

2. UPS does have slower service, cheapest is 7 day delivery for 600 dollars

3. Israel Post Office Air Mail cheaper at 300 dollars but no indication how long, (guess 2 weeks?)

Do the math, get it immediately and start mining, or save a few scrap dollars up front and lose 2 weeks worth of mining.

So, I've been running the unit pretty much non-stop for the past 9 days, it's working with no problems.

On turbo it gives 1.5 TH/s, but most of the day I run it on silent giving 1.35 TH/s.

I don't quite understand your question but yes i'm running KnC hardware and i just like to HODL so don't care about the price.

With the price drop (therefore increasing amount of BTC to purchase ANY miner) it is impossible almost impossible to find any calculator that shows buying ANY mining gear (not singling out ST here) will be profitable (i.e., you will earn more BTC than you paid).

That is really a shame as I SO wanted to get some of their miners but cannot rationalize the expense

I'm a bit late to the show & I was pondering why would one pay $4995 per SP10 (1.4TH/s miner) x2, (shipping not included, add another $800USD for that), for a total of approx. $10K-USD when KNCminer is delivering their 3TH/s Neptune for $10K-USD ($300USD for shipping) in a couple of weeks, if they keep to their shipping sched.

I would compare power usage between the two company's miners in KW p/hr being used but I can't seem to find the Neptune's power usage on their website.

Can someone share some light on this?  Thanks again.

I'm really sure that KNC are not shipping in couple weeks (i'm a KNC neptune customer), and I don't even expect them to ship in a couple months.
Also the KNC neptunes are currently not available.  Not sure what's going on there, as many have been refunding but no sign of them offering these refunded units.

Hello rookie. Let me teach you how to help yourself in the future. If you want to make an investment please don't take anyone's word for granted. Always pass the information through your filter and make the decision by knowing that you are 100% satisfied with it and not because someone told you so.

Before answering your post you need to know that the data in it is very wrong. First of all if you want to buy 2 SP10 products you don't need to pay 4995$ x2 because there is a promo product of 2 x SP10 for 7995$ with shipping in May(plus shipping maybe). Secondly, depending on your country, you may need to pay VAT for that Neptune so you need to add that to the cost (you may need to pay VAT for SP10 too, but you will pay it much less than Neptune). Thirdly the shipping of Neptune you say is in a couple of weeks. A couple could mean anywhere from 2 to 12 weeks (their deadline is Q2 2014 meaning 30 June 2014). They never announced another shipping date time.

Now we get to the getting-the-ROI part! The thing that you need to consider when comparing the 2 is that you can get the 2x SP10 in May and you can start hashing and earning BTCs then. The Neptune may ship in May, but it can also ship at the end of June. We don't know yet since there is no info on that. I can't predict the the difficulty in May and the following months and i can't predict the exchange rate, but considering that the hashrates are close to equal and that difficulty is going to the moon then you will hash with a couple of week faster with the SP10s than with the Neptune. The choice is yours.

Thanks everyone for the heads up.  I truly am enlightened by this info.  
However, I did go ahead, weeks ago, to pay them for a KNC Neptune miner.  The shipping according to them is $300USD.  I am in the US.  
I, too , have written to KNC & have only received vague answers myself.  They were incredibly helpful & informative when it came to my questions prior to taking my $$$.

So, if nothing should come of this in the next 2-3wks, I'll be requesting my refund, which according to them, is approx. 7-10 business days, which is almost the same time it took for my bank to wire them their $$$.

So in the meantime I'm shopping around & if something better or more promising becomes available sooner, goodbye KNC.

Thanks Neil! I like the detail on the controller ports, I didn't realise they included those extra ports (anything more than an ethernet port).

Closer inspection (pictured below) of the front of the miner you will see a USB slot (apparently soon to be used for a wireless dongle), a serial console port (useful for resurrecting dead miner from failed upgrades and other disasters), a 10/100 Ethernet port, two LED’s, a recessed button and finally a slot for a MicroSD card to be used for upgrades and recovery.
