The ONLY reason I see to take pre-orders is because you don't have the funds to order parts in mass quantity.

If I am mistaken then I would like to hear the reasons to have pre-orders at all.
You're mistaken. Ramping up production takes 2-3 months of lead time.
We did that in advance, before starting to sell (only 3 weeks ago...) for May and June batches.
We're doing it today for August and September batches.
Taking pre-orders allow us to asses quantities and optimize supply chain.

Most startups take pre-order details without charging the customer's card. The card is charged when the product is about to ship.
Given the sleazy nature of miner manufacturers (except Bitmain) you've allowed yourself to take money in advance. This practice won't survive in the long term in the marketplace, but you may make tons of profit on it anyway.

Are you telling me that you are smart enough to assemble an amazing product but have to resort to full pre-payment orders to figure out what your market size is?

If you have investors, I'm sure you given them some indication of this. Do you have no other way of estimating what your order quantities are based off of the projected difficulty, price, etc, etc?

Or why not take 10%, fully refundable pre-orders instead of the same abusive 100% pre-orders? Taking 100% pre-orders is shifting all of your risks to your customers.

How is Bitmain able to sell equipment with 4 day delivery timelines? Maybe you should get on the phone and ask them how they decide what quantities of equipment to order...

You guys are doing so many things right..... it is hard to watch you take the same road as BFL, HashFast, CoinTerra, KNC.

It's also a matter of quantities. 1,000 batch of SP30 is doable without any particular problem.
Do you expect us to take the risk, for say, 5,000 SP30 ?
Do you understand the amounts involved ?

For bulk quantities, we do allow different payment terms. Contact as at sales@spondoolies-tech.com

Unlike other companies or semi-companies, we don't hide. Visiting our offices and production facility can be very easily arranged.
We already had visitors from around the globe.

Did you guys consider that you probably would sell more hardware that is instock  then a set of pre-orders would indicate?

You have a vast larger customer base to sell to, if you dont do pre-orders..   or as gigavps indicated...   a 10% downpayment would be acceptable to me.. with a 90% payment when the hardware is READY TO SHIP.

Unfortunately, no magic wand to increase production capacity overnight. It takes 2-3 months of lead time, as explained.
We've took the risk for SP10 ahead of our launch. We can take limited quantities risk for SP30 as well.
Would it be better in your opinion to not allow pre-ordering of SP30 at all? Wait until August to sell them ?
We believe we have a compelling products and customers do want to get priority access.

As explained, different payment terms are possible for bulk quantities.

10% down, and a reasonable price in BTC and you will have me as a customer as well.
Mining equipment pricing has to be in BTC to make sense:

If you pay X btc and make Y<X (even if you made profit in dollars) then you would have been better off just buying BTC and holding.

You are in the business of making hardware and selling them for profit and you are well aware of this market, Your team is very smart and know what they are doing, I am very confident that you are well aware of the the business risks, Why should we take the risk, there is always risk, use the funds you raised from your investors to build 1000,2000 or as many machines as you think you could sell then sell them with 1 week delivery then build more machines and sell more, cycle continues, like other members said here why Bitmain does it and you can't.

I ordered a Neptune from KNC late Dec and would never ever buy a Pre-Order, will be asking for my refund for the Neptune. I believe that your company has a great product but these Pre-Order stuff needs to stop and if more customers don't Pre-Order then you will be forced to use a different model..

Yes, I like to see guys do NO Pre-Order on the SP30, listen to your buyers and members here, go the way Bitmain does it, sell what you have in stock, make more machines, use your money to pay for parts/labor/salaries/bonuses etc. etc. then make machines in stock again and sell more, repeat cycle period.

...  to build 1000,2000 or as many machines as you think you could sell then sell them with 1 week delivery then build more machines and sell more, cycle continues,...
"Build more machines" - takes 3 months.
Some of you keep referring to the same Chinese manufacturer who has huge warehouses of stockpiled miners mining. From time to time, a percentage of them are being sold.
They're not being produced on the spot.
Even 55nm ASIC takes ~50 days to produce.

With SP30, the amount of capital needed to do the same is massive. Do the math.

All I am asking is how is Bitmain able to mass produce THOUSANDS of miners without pre-orders. This is a question you should be asking....

Do you expect us to take the risk, for say, 5,000 SP30 ?

YES! You decided to get into the hardware manufacturing business. Why are you trying to offload your risks to your customers? Have you learned nothing from other companies.

Do you understand the amounts involved ?

I understand better than most. I own $1mm+ of bitcoin mining hardware.

Unlike other companies or semi-companies, we don't hide. Visiting our offices and production facility can be very easily arranged.

I've visited HashFast's office, BFL's office, CoinTerra's office and many others. It didn't keep them from being late or complete non-delivery of products.

You are selling 5Th/s unicorn machines based off the fact you have a 1.4Th machines today.

Do you have a working chip for these new unicorn blood driven machines?

I don't see the problem with them stockpiling miners. As long as I get a break even in BTC I really don't care what happened to the miners before they were delivered.

Hi All,

PRE-ORDER model that funds development is just silly. Please don't waste your money. Maybe (with respect) it's a lack of experience or willing suspension of disbelief or simple naivite, but the mining community in particular seems to be susceptible to this kind of bad decision making. This is not a reflection on the 'good faith-ness' of the vendors, I'm sure their hearts are in the right place, it's just good business and common sense when you're dealing with a product in the development phase, especially in this case where timing is so critical. I think this is more fitting for a crowdfunding platform like Kickstarter where the delivery date is highly speculative.

Wishing much success to the mining community. Please be careful.

Cheers.
