Ethereum has been steadily on the rise for a good while now, and this first half of Q1 2020 has proven that they have brought that same energy into the new decade. They have started 2020 with a bang, more than doubling in value in just 2 months.

There are quite a few factors that have come into play to make this a winning year for Ethereum and here are just a few: https://thecoinshark.net/en/5-reasons-why-ethereum-is-winning-in-2020/amp/

What do you think we can expect to see for the rest of the year?

Ethereum is good but not enough to surpass Bitcoin, not this year this happens to be the halving year of Bitcoin no coins can overtake Bitcoin at this point in time, I support Ethereum with all its development but I don't see it surpassing maybe in the future but not this year.

No matter how steadily ETH has risen, it will just be a mere wish to take the first position. These have been said over and over again and the King has not shifted for once. Let's have a look at the market capitalization between ETH and BTC, the distance is at larger and not sighted is a short distance.
It will happen if ethereum can rob the dominance of bitcoin but it will never happen until there will be something big like the hype of ICO in the past. To be placed on the second spot of CMC is more than enough for ethereum. At least if it's not something wrong to hope more for the future of ethereum.

We should not look at the competing side of the ethereum with bitcoin but what both can do to resolve the problem of finances facing the world today. Bitcoin should always be like the central bank to the whole cryptocurrencies market and at that be the first coin.

it's just that, whatever the comparison, ethereum will never take the position of bitcoin. so far, ethereum has been ranked 1 out of all altcoin, in my opinion. it's just that, I feel that bitcoin and ethereum are like kings and queens.

We all agree that no one doubts the quality and performance of ethereum. But to be number 1 and defeat bitcoin is not possible.
In my opinion ethereum to be number 2 is the maximum result, because bitcoin is too strong to beat. Indeed reality like that,
now ethereum is still priced at $ 172, hopefully at the end of 2020 it can be at least to the price of $ 500.

agree, that we must see the long-standing fact that ethereum is still affected and follows the movements of bitcoin. although we must admit that ethereum is still the best of all altcoins to date.
look at the movement of ethereum this year, at the beginning of $ 129 and when compared to now $ 173, there was a very good increase but it is unfortunate when febuary ethereum had wanted to penetrate $ 300 but did not happen and fell back. maybe if for the end of the year ethereum will be able to penetrate more than $ 500, hopefully this will be achieved.

There is no way why Ethereum will overtake the market and take the number 1 position because for me Bitcoin will never dethrone
 for the next 5 years.
Ethereum is a Good coins(though some says this is a shitcoin back years)
and has really a future but at this point?
This is too early to expect as 2020 only the Beginning and even the ethereum 2.0 is still hanging and no one knows when will this happen.

first position in crypto or first position in altcoins?
occupying the first position in crypto by kicking bitcoin is definitely not possible but if it occupies the first position as the most popular altcoin and has the best value among altcoin then it is very possible

first position in crypto or first position in altcoins?
Probably what he meant is taking the number 1 position in the market as ETH is already number 1 in altcoin market.
Which I think is not going to happen, ETH has very less support if we compare to bitcoin, and bitcoin is holding the biggest dominate rate and it will beat the entire altcoins.

Will Ethereum be taking 1st place in 2020?
What do you think we can expect to see for the rest of the year?

The chances of ETH overtaking BTC must be so low as to effectively be zero.
I do think that all coins will recover in price as we come out of the initial shock of CV-19.  On top of this, ETH is likely to outperform most other alts (but not necessarily BTC) as it has such good development (and the move to hybrid PoS), as well as solid use case.
So at the end of 2020 I would tentatively suggest a much higher ETH price, but still well below the ATH. But BTC would remain #1 in cap by some considerable distance.

When it comes to market dominance in crypto, it is pretty obvious that Bitcoin have it more than of anything around. And to prove that Bitcoin still remain to that level is that the next coin created will just consider as an altcoin. And if we take a look into its market resistance, it was clear enough to see Bitcoin keep soaring and how it affect the entire market more than a thing that ETH can do.

I also think like you, it seems that he wants ETH to surpass Bitcoin to become the king of this market. But honestly, ETH will never have that chance, I can't see any factors that could make ETH surpass Bitcoin.

ETH is a very promising coin, but I don't think it will take first place in the market, in general I think that no one can beat Bitcoin in all the time because Bitcoin is the strongest coin.

As of now, there is no altcoin that can replace bitcoin. It had been the most successful crypto, people see bitcoin as the main cryptocurrency. It is too far from reality for ethereum to replace bitcoin at the current state since bitcoin dominates the market.
There is no way Ethereum can replace bitcoin even in any state because you cannot compare the two, Ethereum is premined shit which cannot be viewed as a currency and that is the prime difference and there is no crypto in the market that have the technical capability to override what bitcoin is capable of but may be in the future we might see some coin development which could accommodate more users.

Why should it be so important that Ehtereum is place 1? What do you expect? If you are first, you can't make mistakes. Everyone will be looking at you even more. It's always easier to be a hunter than to be hunted. Always watch what happens behind you. You'll automatically move forward. But is the front always better? There's no more room to move then. Think about it.

We are talking about the same ethereum right? I mean there is literally x7 difference between ethereum and bitcoin, do you know what that means?

There is no way that is happening, I think the realistic would be ethereum staying at second place but maybe reaching to over 50 billion in cap, that would be realistic and still good for eth, just a x2.5 increase and that would be not impossible considering x2.5 increase equals to under 500 dollars and with all the halving of bitcoin and proof of stake for ethereum and all of that I doubt it would be that difficult to reach those prices. Hell ethereum actually peaked above 300 dollars just recently a few months ago, I doubt it would be impossible for it to do it again and just put a bit more on top of that as well.

Im always seen these kind of question about the etherium if have a chance to take a first seat in crypto.
But one I always seen a answer it cannot be happen to be a top 1 in crypto, If we look back at the past we all know on what bitcoin can do than ETH its only reach in a price of $1k. And in this year could not be happen maybe it take more years but the bitcoins are always take a first in crypto so its impossible for ETH to surpass bitcoin like that.

Me, either, ETH can have its bull run and surpass its current ATH but it will never replace bitcoin in the ranking.

There is a big difference, Bitcoin Marketcap - $139,315,868,877, while ETH marketcap is only $21,673,642,717... source : https://coinmarketcap.com/
And we still have not consider the OTC volume on bitcoin.

based on - https://hackernoon.com/how-does-a-bitcoin-over-the-counter-otc-market-work-explained-8he232ha

Quote
The volume of Bitcoin traded OTC is around $20 billion/day

Look at the market, Bitcoin dominance is more than 65%, which the entire volume of Bitcoin should be turned to ETH is really impossible. Even though the price of ETH cross more than 2000$ it cannot secure the Bitcoin position, we should always expect the price of ETH should and it should balance the market so that is altcoin which is implemented in the ETH blockchain will surely increase its price.
