I think the best way to explain Bitcoin to the elderly is simple. Most old people don't understand what bitcoin is, but we know that they are very familiar with gold and think gold is a symbol of wealth. So we can attract their attention with the opening words that bitcoin is gold in the digital world.

The explanation begins with the history of why bitcoin is considered gold and then includes articles or clippings about cryptocurrency from well-known tabloid newspapers and newspaper sites. Then the last explanation is that investing in bitcoin our money will not disappear even though the value fluctuates, and it only needs the patience to wait for its value to rise (unless the internet stopped working or the bitcoin network was abandoned).

Don't forget that parents think that they are more conservative than us, safety is the top priority, not the profit.

Great analogy. I think this is the easiest way to make old people understand what Bitcoin is and how it works. Gold has been used for a long time, with a solid reputation among people in the mainstream world. Bitcoin is just like Gold in the sense that it's scarce and it's the most secure cryptocurrency in the world. The pioneer cryptocurrency is definitely the "Gold Standard for Digital Currencies". While old people may find it challenging to use a Bitcoin wallet to interact with the Blockchain, they could simply leave someone trustworthy enough to handle their digital funds. Unless developers create a Bitcoin wallet that's extremely friendly for the elderly, this is the only viable solution I can think of.

Thankfully, there are many educational materials available physically and throughout the web. I've seen a couple of good books that teach you how Bitcoin works and how to use it for your own benefit. Reading a book doesn't require any technical skills, making it an ideal option for the elderly. It's up to us as crypto enthusiasts to drive as much people as we can into Bitcoin. Ultimately, young people will adopt Bitcoin the most as they're quite fond of technology. Old people using Bitcoin will be the minority, as the rest will still use Fiat (physical cash) for their day-to-day transactions. And that's perfectly normal considering that the vast majority of old people aren't quite used to the latest trends in technology. With or without the elderly, Bitcoin will do fine as long as there are a lot of people using and supporting it in the mainstream world. Just my thoughts Grin

for an old age to understand and to learn about bitcoin , for me, i think its easy to teach them than to not old cause of an old people can relax them and they can not work any physical working and bitcoin will no age limits to learn or to understand what bitcoin it is,old people can do learn a lot about bitcoin as long as  they can
Actually some old people doesn't gives interest to what bitcoin is. In my experience, they have difficulty to understand easily the true meaning of bitcoin. So we have to tell them in an easy way that they can easily get what’s the use of bitcoin. We have to show them using our gadgets and be patient since they can catch up on the process of how it works.

The actual reason is that in most cases they are afraid of getting scammed. We can't blame them really. In the recent past, we had a few multi-billion cryptocurrency scams such as Onecoin and PlusToken, which mostly targeted the elderly people. The media also went overboard with these scams. If we could convince them about investing in cryptocurrency, then we may get good response from this group.

I'm looking for the easiest way to make old people understand Bitcoin more thoroughly. I want to let the elderly know about the "Bitcoin revolution", yet I find it quite challenging to explain it to them in a way they can understand how it all works. There are some wallets that have a "user-friendly" interface, but even the basics of sending/receiving Bitcoin can have a steep learning curve for the older people. A Bitcoin wallet with built-in accessibility features, could help even elder people with vision or hearing problems to use the pioneer cryptocurrency in their daily lives.

If you happen to know of a way to make old people understand Bitcoin easily, please let me know. Any suggestions or recommendations will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Smiley

I'm not really sure that they want to understand it. If they are fine wth their reality, why would you try to make them understand? it took my grandma a couple of month to learn how to use a smartphone for messengers and online video calls. I cannot imagine the situation where she would need to use crypto.

It's a bad idea teaching old people to use bitcoin. Mostly old people in my country don't know how to use cellphone or computer. But if they knew, what will be in their mind if you introduce bitcoin to them? In news, bitcoin always mention because in our country many investment scam use bitcoin as their mode of payment. Old people always watch news, and if I'll introduce it to them they'll avoid it and think that it is a scam.
There is nothing on earth that humans cannot do.  There is no way we can ignore the elderly.  They can also get a better idea about Bitcoin if they try.  We must remember that the modern age we are living in today is the gift of those old people.  The old men invented the computer, so we can use it today.  Mobile has not been invented by anyone in this age, it has been invented by the people of that age.  So if we can explain them with a little effort, then they must understand better.

I agree with you. We can learn everything if we wanted to. Bitcoin will always be available to any age. Elderly can understand bitcoin if we will just have the patience in teaching them. If we can, I'm sure that they also can. They are born without modern technology and yet they now adapt and live with the technology. Not impossible for them to learn, we only need time Smiley

Making the older people understand how bitcoin investment works requires a whole lot. Because the will find it difficult to adapt to the new system of investment which is more electronically transacted. First of all they have to be enlightened on how digital the world have gone and also help them understand that assets are no longer stored basically on mortal vessels anymore but on electronic based devices. Lastly use a very common commidty in your locality. I mean a commodity which Rises and falls due to demand and supply factor. With this you can atleast bring them to the consciousness that the is an alternate way of owning assets

It's just a choice.

You can teach them if you want to and let them understand. As long as they have their mental consciousness and understanding, they can understand bitcoin even it will take days, weeks or a month or two.

You ask your grandma or grandpa if they are interested to an "internet money".

That's certainly true, mate. With so many scams taking place in the crypto/Blockchain industry, old people will think twice before joining the crypto train. Bitcoin will prove to be more risky for them than Fiat itself. It's this reason why young people will adopt Bitcoin the most. And there's nothing we can do about it. At least, Bitcoin's adoption in the mainstream world is growing at a slow and steady rate. Not everyone will find Bitcoin to be attractive as a long-term investment or as a currency for daily payments. Both Fiat and Bitcoin will have their number of supporters in the mainstream world.

Nonetheless, those who're interested in Bitcoin will do whatever it takes to understand how it works. The elderly will always be the minority because most old people aren't quite fond with the latest technologies. As long as we do our part in explaining to them the benefits of Bitcoin relative to Fiat, adoption will come one way or another. We just have to be patient in order to achieve great results in the long term. Just my thoughts Grin

Don't try too hard to teach seniors to use Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Voluntariness and their desire are important here. Cryptocurrency will gradually be introduced into our world as states legalize it. This process is not that fast and will take a long time. During this period, the old generation will disappear, and the new one will already treat cryptocurrency as ordinary financial means. Therefore, everything will change by itself, so this process should not be accelerated.
It's basically like teaching an old dog a new trick. It's going to be hard, but not impossible. Especially if they have at least an entry-level knowledge of modern technology and online payments, you can make them understand how bitcoin works. Aside from that though, I don't think they'd be investing on it as most of them are really accustomed to the tangible assets that they had in the past.

i think we can make old people understand bitcoin by educating them and enlightening on what bitcoin is all about.

Educating old people won't be fruitful IMO.
Better we can cite some real life example and make them understand about the Coin.
The best example can be comparing Bitcoin with Gold.
Old people have immense knowledge on how the Gold price work, we can use that system to make them understand the value of BTC and how it's price actually fluctuates.
In other we can make them understand that, Bitcoin is a Asset like Gold that can be hold Digitally.

While it might seem that the elderly simply aren't interested in learning about cryptocurrencies, this isn't always the case . You can make  a learning point so that the older generation will have a base from which they can do their own research and choose whether they wish to dive in to the brave new world of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency .

Most old peoples don't know how to use new technology. For example, my grandfather has zero knowledge of using a smartphone.
He often called me to use a smartphone for him. If we start talking about bitcoin technology with them or anyone who doesn't become aware of new computers/technology, I believe they'll never understand.
They'll become confused. I know its easy to learn about bitcoin but hard to manage it.

This issue of old people understanding Bitcoin, is something that's very easy to comprehend, ok if I may ask, how many old people are interested to know Bitcoin, and how many old adults is interested to invest in Bitcoin, looking at it from another perspective, it's totally impossible for old adults who are aged to understand Bitcoin because the passion or zeal of btc will not be there, so in all ramifications old adults will not understand btc.

Well for me i believe that explaining bitcoin to the elder people was definitely quite challenging. Lets just take observe of them when it comes on technology, they are also hard to adopt in a fast changing and advance technology but the good thing of them was they are willing to learn new things. It may quite challenging for us to teach them but there are some wallets that has a user friendly interface and with our patience to teach them time will come that they can adopt it for sure.

until now my parents still can't trust Bitcoin even though they have seen me make thousands of dollars from Bitcoin.  Seeing from the conditions that I experienced, I think it is a tough challenge for us to be able to change the way parents view Bitcoin.  those who are old have decreased brain memory levels, so when we explain about Bitcoin, they will not understand and even be interested in Bitcoin.  I personally have no intention anymore to explain to parents about Bitcoin, it's better to just leave them with a system that they have trusted for a long time..

The first thing you should do is not to speak in a high tone with your parents. The second thing is try to practice the uses and benefits of Bitcoin directly, because parents sometimes learn from what they do.

There is no need to explain something to someone about Bitcoin. Many people live in their own world and do not want to learn anything new about the world of finance. Until bitcoin thoroughly enters our life, this information may not be useful at all for them.

With the development in more and more number of wallet application it has become easy to understand about bitcoin. As few users mentioned it isn't a must for old people to learn about bitcoin. If they're willing to learn about bitcoin, surely there is a way for it. Saw an article from the year 2014, easy understanding of bitcoin which brief the working of bitcoin with a single apple.

for an old age to understand and to learn about bitcoin , for me, i think its easy to teach them than to not old cause of an old people can relax them and they can not work any physical working and bitcoin will no age limits to learn or to understand what bitcoin it is,old people can do learn a lot about bitcoin as long as  they can
Actually some old people doesn't gives interest to what bitcoin is. In my experience, they have difficulty to understand easily the true meaning of bitcoin. So we have to tell them in an easy way that they can easily get what’s the use of bitcoin. We have to show them using our gadgets and be patient since they can catch up on the process of how it works.

Why not just teach how to use bitcoin? Bitcoin is really hard for people to understand if you will explain it all to them, how much more to old people that we don't even have the patience to teach them how to use an android phone. I think it is enough for them to know how to use it and where they can use it instead of explaining the processes.
