Dan Ashworth has been placed on gardening leave by Newcastle United after he asked to leave the club.
Manchester United are looking to appoint Ashworth as their sporting director as the INEOS era begins. And fresh reports from The Athletic over the weekend have now suggested Ashworth has requested to leave the Magpies.
He notified Newcastle of the Red Devils' approach when he was made the top target at Old Trafford. However, there remains one more hurdle for United - with Ashworth under contract, Newcastle might have to pay upwards of £20million for his services.
