This is another confusing analysis from someone who I believe isn't able to read the Premier League table. Manchester United played three games, won one barely with a last minute goal against Fulham at home, got destroyed by Liverpool at Old Trafford, and lost against Brighton with a total score of 2:5 goals in three games.

Southampton lost away from home against Newcastle while having 78% ball possession and 19:3 shots. I think it is quite simple to see that Southampton had a huge chance to win that game, but couldn't score the goal. Then they had indeed a very weak game against Nottingham Forst. It was an entirely different game to my surprise and they deserved the defeat for sure.

Against Brentford, efficiency was once more making the difference and despite overwhelming ball possession and 8:2 corners, Southampton again couldn't score the goal, but they delivered serious resistance. However, Brentford got away with scoring the goals while not having the ball very much.
